This week’s viewer question is from Sara Hill. She asks, “how do I wear pastels without looking like an Easter egg??
Well, Sara, there are a few tricks that can definitely take the sugar out of these sweet shades: find pastel pieces with clean lines, no frills and edgy, modern details. Also, start small.
For the style novice, I suggest wearing just one pastel piece. The model in the photo is wearing an example. She has on a pale peach tank under a great, lightweight coral jacket. All the lines are clean. Notice there are no ruffles. No lace… nothing overly girly with this look. That definitely helps.
Again, another trick is to add edgy details. Things like the zipper detail on this jacket can help.
And, mixing the pastels with neutral pieces like jeans is an easy, fail-safe way to go…these dark wash, skinny jeans definitely add a modern touch. The darker the jean, by the way, the more slimming they are. I finished off the look with some layered chains and a chunky heel with a sexy ankle strap…more edgy elements.
If you’re still put off by pastels, or worry they might wash you out… you can always try just a hint of the hues with accessories. A touch is all you need to wear the trend.
