10 Ways To Look Slimmer Without Diet or Exercise

10 Ways To Look Slimmer Without Diet or Exercise

In the video above, I’m sharing ten ways to look slimmer WITHOUT dieting or exercise…all you have to do is dress skinny!
This was really helpful for me after having both Gage and Elizabeth!
Read how to look slimmer without doing anything below.

I also did a similar post a few years ago that you can read here.

Wear Outer Layer

The first way is really simple and one of my favorite ways to look slimmer.
All you have to do is throw on a top and blazer, or even a cardigan.
What this does is shed off the sides to create a slimmer look through the middle.
Make sure that you tuck in your shirt so you can see your jeans.
If you can’t tuck in your shirt for some reason, choose a top that’s a little shorter.

Monochromatic Outfit

You’ve probably heard this before and that’s because it works!
Wearing one color makes you look slimmer, taller, AND more sophisticated and chic!
The bonus is that monochromatic dressing is back on trend!

Shapewear

Find shapewear that really works for you.
It needs to be comfortable and something that sucks everything in.
Wear it when you really want to look slimmer…like a special occasion or night out.
After having my kids I doubled down and wore two pairs of Spanx!
I think Spanx are wonderful for smoothing everything out!
If it’s way too tight and not comfortable it’s probably not the right size, so make sure you find the right size!

High Rise Jeans

Wear them!
High-rise jeans are wonderful because they suck everything in!
I love that everything feels like it’s in the right place in high-rise jeans.
Try to choose some that are a nine or ten-inch rise.
Those are true high-rise!

Forgiving Fabrics

If you’re wearing a fabric that is heavy, it’s going to make you look heavy.
Wearing something paper-thin will make it super easy to see every lump and bump.
If you want to look slimmer you need to wear fabrics like cotton, ponte knit, denim, fabrics with spandex in it.
Fabric choice is really important for looking slimmer!

Dark Wash Jeans

Behold the power of the dark wash jeans!
They are very elongating and slimming.
Look for a pair that’s high rise and dark wash.
Try to avoid whiskering and keep it classic and simple!

AND they are on the wardrobe basics checklist!
If you haven’t subscribed to my newsletter and received those checklists click here.

Wear Heels

You already know this…but wearing heels makes you look taller which makes you look slimmer!
Pointed toe heels with a skinny heel make you look even slimmer.
If you want to wear a skirt or dress without tights, wear a nude heel that blends into your skin tone.

Faux Tan

The next step is to try a faux tan.
For special occasions, you can go to someone who does faux tans and ask them to contour your arms to make them look slimmer or contour the muscles in your legs (or pretty much anything)!
A tan with definitely make you look slimmer and more toned!

V-Necks and Scoops

Necklines do make a difference…especially V-necks or scoop necklines!
These minimize the bust and elongate the upper body while bringing the eye up and away from the lower body.

Scoop & V-Neck Tops here.

Wear Dark Colors

The last tip is to wear dark colors like black, grey, charcoal, navy, and burgundy.
It’s so sophisticated, slimming, and chic!

Bonus Tip: Jewelry

You can place your jewelry so that it draws the eye.
Wear statement earrings to bring the eye upward.
Elongate your body with a long necklace.
Jewelry placement can be very helpful for looking slimmer!

Surviving BBG Workout Week One

Getting Back on the Exercise Wagon | Surviving BBG Week One

I’ll get to surviving BBG week one in just a minute, but first let’s talk about these pictures below.
I’m posting these pictures because I want accountability. These pictures will create pressure to have an ‘after’ moment.
Do I look terrible or overweight in the images above? Absolutely not.
Is it easy to post these pictures? Nope. So…please be kind.

You can see that I have a little tummy and some extra weight around the middle.
I think part of this stems from fluctuating hormones, and the rest simply is… lack of effort.

Working Out it Hard

Working out is HARD. No doubt about it.

Consistently exercising and eating well, while a simple formula for success, feels almost impossible sometimes.
The daily time constraints, juggling motherhood, business and ALL the other stuff like laundry, cleaning, groceries, cooking, organizing, bedtime ritual, etc.,
All of these things make it tough to stay the course…to stay motivated.

Check out  more activewear here.

Tracy Anderson

Leading up to my 40th birthday…I had CRAZY motivation. For some reason, I wanted to be in amazing shape when I turned the big 4-0.
I did the Tracy Anderson Method, both Meta and Continuity program every day for one year.
You can see my progress with Tracy here (and above).
I was the slimmest and strongest I’ve ever been…even more than my wedding day.

Slowly Falling off the Tracy Wagon

After my 40th, working out has felt more like a chore. Eating well, less of a priority. And, I am truthfully burned out on Tracy.
I still have been doing her workouts weekly, but more like twice a week, or sometimes not at all.
In terms of eating… well… that has definitely gotten worse.
I have been eating pretty much anything I want, from bread to Hot Tamales.

Something New

I recently came across a blog by Rachel Parcell. She is one of the most successful Reward Style bloggers, and someone I admire.
If I could pick a younger mentor, she would be it!
Anywho… I always check in to see what she’s up to… and I recently saw her post about her BBG journey.
Her before and after picture was SO compelling, I immediately looked up BBG.

BBG workout week one, fashion blogger Erin Busbee charts progress

What is BBG?

BBG stands for Bikini Body Guide, created in 2014 by Australian, Kayla Itsines. These 28-minute workouts include cardio, stretching and resistance training.
It’s designed to workout the whole body so that you look good in a bikini.

Each resistance workout combines body-weight, strength training, and plyometrics.
You do two 7-minute circuits of four exercises each, and then repeat both circuits, three to four times a week.

You can choose from either an eBook containing 12 weeks worth of  workouts here.

OR use the Sweat app, which includes videos showing you how to execute the exercises.

BBG workout week one, fashion blogger Erin Busbee charts progress

Sweat App

I decided to use the sweat app, since video is much easier for me to follow than a PDF guide (see picture above).
The app includes recipes, grocery lists, and a built-in BBG community so if you have questions you can ask other women using the program their thoughts.

I posted one message and got about eight responses!

Dedicating yourself to this program is a great way to execute all those ‘get in shape’ new year’s resolutions!

BBG workout week one, fashion blogger Erin Busbee charts progress

Community

You can see from the picture above, you can post a message (easy to do through the app)
And, get responses almost immediately from people either in the same boat or further along with advice.

BBG workout week one, fashion blogger Erin Busbee charts progress

Diet

When looking up recipes you can specify your dietary preferences, like vegan, vegetarian, etc. (see image above)

The recipes can be quite difficult to prepare as some of the ingredients are specific to Australia, but I find it’s a great source of ideas!
I should note that I’m not following her meal plan. I’m just cutting out extraneous bread and sugar. However, I allow myself one ice cream bar (Skinny Cow) per day.
I have a massive sweet tooth and need one treat per day.

Cost

You can get the “Sweat With Kayla” app free for a week.
After that, it’s $19.99 (U.S.) a month. 3-months for $54.99 or $109.98 for the year.
The 12-week workout plan e-book is about $39.

Equipment

Kayla shows a jump rope, bench, mat and I think further down the road a medicine ball, light weights, etc.
I already had a mat and I use my stairs as a bench. My jump rope was like $7 at Amazon.
I have light arm weights already from Tracy Anderson.

 Good for Beginners?

I don’t think this is good for beginners. I think the resistance exercises are REALLY difficult. Manageable, but tough.
The jury is also still out whether all these lunges are good for my knees… or horrible for them.

You should plan to start this workout after you’ve built up a little muscle.
Or just start really slowly and do what you can!

Rookie Mistake

**PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID.**
I couldn’t walk for four days when I tried to do the first circuit move for the full 7 minutes.
You do the suggested amount of REPS and move onto the next exercise.

Wanna Work Out With Me??

Let’s do this together in 2018!! Be sure to take your before pictures too and email me anytime: [email protected]
Look for “BusbeeStyle” in the Sweat app.

I’m going to do barre at least once a week also to stretch a bit more and work the small muscle groups.
I am NOT waiting for New Year’s to get started because my Christmas present from my husband is a Cabo trip and I will be in a swimsuit!!
I am in full exercise and eat healthy mode…

Please let me know if you have any questions. And, thank you SO much for stopping by!

This Metallic Top is Guaranteed to Get Compliments!

Metallic Top For the Holidays

This liquid metal looking, lame top by Topshop IS guaranteed to elicit compliments.
I wore mine to a recent, small holiday party… and four women I’ve never met before pulled me aside and told me they loved it!
The color is a standout and perfect for the holiday season.
The sleeves are also quite sweet with a balloon shape, but thin enough to easily layer under a blazer or jacket.

Holiday Party Looks by Style Type

What’s YOUR Style Type??

One of the questions I always used to ask clients…what is your style?
A surprising number of women can’t identify it.

Can you??

Are you classic, preferring clean lines and minimal details?
Maybe you love edge and would look right at home on the streets of New York City.
Perhaps you are super feminine and love all things girly, fit and flare dresses, ruffles, lace, sequins, pastels, etc.
Or like most women, you are probably a combination.

How Do You Want to Feel?

It’s important to think about your style type… and how you want to look and feel for each occasion before you choose your outfit.
Think about colors you want to wear, silhouettes that are most flattering to your body, and whether you want to feel elegant, sexy, fashion forward, bold, etc.

I wanted to show you some different style type options.. so I asked some friends here in Telluride for help.

Two Skirts

One of my favorite boutiques in Telluride is Two Skirts.
Not only do I love the ladies who work there…but I always walk in and discover a new designer.
You may remember me mentioning the store this summer when I hosted a Bumble BFF party there. Check out that post here.

Meet Cynthia | Edgy Style

Cynthia rocks a pixie cut like no other.
She’s a working mom of 2 kiddos… and my fitness role model!
For example, I recently took my first spin class, and rode for about 4 miles total.
I asked Cynthia what her average mileage is during a cycling class, and she said around 13 miles!

Her style (as you might have guessed) is edgy… a little bit rock and roll.

Fringe Top

The key to her holiday party outfit… is this really fun, fringe, silver top by Rachel Zoe.
This look is ALL about the top, so you should keep the rest of the look pretty neutral…
Which Cynthia did with dark wash skinny jeans, and black ankle strap sandals.

This is the perfect effortless and edgy combo for New Year’s Eve.
Add a black blazer, faux fur or moto jacket for warmth.

Meet Kim | The Risk Taker

Kim is also a beautiful, busy, working mom here in Telluride. She always has a smile on her face, and seems to be genuinely full of joy.
Kim’s style is fashion forward and functional. Every time I walk in the store, Kim has layered clothes and mixed prints in unexpected ways.
But, she is always able to juggle work and mom life in her looks.
(Well, maybe not so much in these Louboutins above 😉

Black Jumpsuit

Many women do not have the courage to rock a jumpsuit, let alone one with peek-a-boo lace detailing…
But, Kim sure does…and she looks amazing in this Self-Portrait piece!
I always say…if you want to dress differently than everyone else at the party, wear a jumpsuit.

Meet Kristin | Ladylike & Feminine

Kristin is the stunning, co-owner of Two Skirts. She runs the business and wears MANY hats, including buying for the store.
When I want to know which designers to watch out for, I ask Kristin.
I also love picking her brain about best sellers…for example…which jeans are all her clients scooping up.

She’s also the mother of two boys!  Not sure how she juggles it all.

Sparkle Dress

Kristin’s style is clearly VERY feminine and ladylike. She LOVES fit-and-flare dresses for special occasions.
She has great legs and a tiny waist so this sequin, Self-Portrait dress looks like it was made for her.

Bring on the Drama

I’ve always described my own style as edgy elegance. I like to wear modern, elegant pieces with some edge or drama.
A bold, red jumpsuit will definitely turn heads, and standout in a sea of black dresses!

Red Jumpsuit

I saw this exact jumpsuit on another, more curvy woman and I think it looked even better on her…so do not shy away from this piece if you are curvy.
Remember how I said, Kristin was always introducing me to new designers? This jumpsuit is one example.
It’s by Mestiza, a glam brand created by two Midwestern designers.

However, these, gorgeous, black velvet pants by Veronica Beard (below) are an exception!

Velvet Pants

These pants are VERY slimming, and here’s why:

1) They are black. Black is slimming

2) The fabric is not heavy or very textured.
It’s a thin velvet with little to no contrast, unlike a ‘crushed’ velvet look

3) They are also higher rise, which makes your legs look longer

I’m wearing size 26. I would say these run a little small, so consider sizing up.

Black Mules

These black mules are from Target, and only $34!
They have a narrow fit, so you might want to size up… 1/2 size.

You might like this video I did about looking expensive on a budget.

NYC Shoot

By the way, this is one of my favorite spots in the city to shoot, the library and Bryant Park. It’s SO gorgeous with a lot of variety.
You can shoot against the all white library or add some greenery like the pictures above in Bryant Park.
When I lived in New York, I rarely made my way to Bryant Park. I wish I had spent more time there!

If you don’t already know, my family visited the city to watch my husband run the marathon. You can read more about that here.

I’m Mad About This Plaid Coat!

Mix Up Your Winter Wardrobe with a Plaid Coat

In the sea of black coats, there is one sure fire way to standout, wear a coat in a bold color or print…like plaid!
Plaid makes such a statement, and yet it’s a classic that will be “in” style for years.

Gorgeous Bold Coats

This is the…. ‘anything-but-boring’ coat for the days when you really want to mix it up.
Cause don’t you get tired of seeing black and gray? I know I do.
I think part of my love of color comes from my years of  living in south Texas, where color is the norm.
And, you can still look incredibly sophisticated and chic is bolder colors and prints.

Fuzzy Sweater

I told you that you would see this fuzzy, white sweater a whole lot!!
You may remember it from my all-white look here.
Or my NYC Haul video here.

Black Booties

I love these booties so much I bought them in patent (above) and leopard print.
The chunky heel makes them pretty easy to wear. And, the shiny patent leather instantly elevate any look.
Even if you are wearing all black, these boots add so much.

You can see other ways I styled them here.

It also layers beautifully over anything, from puffers to blazers to moto jackets!

I’m wearing size small. It runs a little large, but I like the extra room for layering.

Everything You Need To Know About Planning a Trip to Iceland

Your Iceland Trip

Our Iceland trip is definitely one of my top ten trips of all time! And, that’s saying a lot since I’ve traveled all over the world.
If you like adventure and seeing things, you’ve never seen before… this IS the trip for you.

SIDE NOTE: You also have to be okay with cold weather if you are going November – April.

Iceland Trip | Lifestyle Blogger, Erin Busbee of Busbee Style and her family

Iceland Trip | Lifestyle Blogger, Erin Busbee of Busbee Style and her family

Why Iceland

It’s the ultimate adventure!
The landscape is breathtaking and unusual. For example, there are NO trees.
The joke is if you get lost in an Icelandic forest… stand up.
The terrain and landscape change so dramatically depending on which direction you drive.
It can quickly go from mountainous to a volcanic rocky landscape.

It is a special place that will forever remain in our family’s hearts.

Iceland, planning a trip to Iceland, how to get there
Getting There

We flew Iceland Air and it was better than most US airlines.
They even gave our kiddos a little backpack filled with an eye mask, crayons, and an activity book!
Our tickets were $700 per person, which in the scheme of things seemed pretty reasonable.

Rental Car

Unless you are taking tour buses everywhere or hiring a private tour guide to drive you around, I highly recommend renting a car.
We rented an all-wheel drive car with studded snow tires.
Make sure you have either all-wheel or 4-wheel drive and AMAZING tires. Ask for studs.

Iceland Trip | Lifestyle Blogger, Erin Busbee of Busbee Style and her family, daylight, hours of sunlight in November

Climate & Daylight

Iceland is the 3rd windiest place in the world. There were moments when I literally thought I might blow away.
It’s the WIND not the air temperature that makes it SOOO cold. From November – February expect 30-ish degrees to feel more like minus 20 with the wind.

Also you have less daylight in these months. The sun rises around 10am and sets at 4pm.

Where to Stay

Traveling as a family, I much prefer to rent an apartment in order to have a kitchen, dishwasher and washer/dryer.
We booked an apartment through Airbnb.
It just makes my life so much easier and more pleasant.

A couple of things to consider before booking your place in Reykavik:

1) Find a place near the shops and main shopping area downtown
2) Look for underground or covered parking

This is where we stayed: 39 Lindartgata in Reykavik ($415 per night).

Money

They use the Icelandic Krona or ISK.
You do not need to exchange currency. Credit cards are accepted EVERYWHERE. Even the bathrooms.

Food

As you might expect on an island, food is REALLY expensive. For our family of 4, dinners were between $300 – $400!
Entrees averaged around $50. It’s kinda shocking. That is one of the many reasons I was so glad to have a kitchen.
If you like strange foods, look for puffin and whale on the menu.

What to Pack

This is NOT the time to worry about how you look. The Icelandic weather is NO joke!!
If you are traveling between November – April, take a look at the list above.  I suggest printing it for easy reference.

Everything you need to know about planning a trip to Iceland, view of the beach from Hotel Budir

Northern Lights

We went all the way out to Hotel Budir, which was stunningly beautiful (see picture above) but our Aurora Borealis forecast was 0.
In other words, 0 percent chance of seeing the Northern Lights. Do NOT fret if this happens to you the first couple of evenings.
We ended up seeing them in Reykavik. The best viewing spot in the city is a short drive at the Grotta Lighthouse.

Aurora Forecast

You can check and see what your chances are of seeing the Northern lights via the Aurora Borealis forecast.
There is a scale from 0 to 9. 0 meaning no chance. 9 meaning 100% chance.

Into the Glacier

Into the Glacier is a tour literally inside a glacier. You get a guided tour through a man-made cave.
This takes a few hours (all in) and is awesome! Here is a link to their site with more info.

Location

Into the Glacier is about an hour and 40 minutes from Reykavik. The drive can be treacherous so you might consider a tour bus or hiring a driver.

Gear

They have snow suits and crampons for you. You can wear your own snow gear and simply borrow their crampons. Up to you…

Iceland, planning a trip to Iceland, what you need to know, visiting the Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon

No doubt you’ve seen pictures of the gorgeous Blue Lagoon in Iceland.
It is a magical place… like the most beautiful and largest hot springs you’ve ever seen.
It is also one of the ’25 wonders of the world’.

You HAVE TO pre-book. Make sure you make a reservation before heading out to the site.

Save Your Hair

To save your hair from the Silica, put a generous amount of conditioner on your hair before you go into the hot springs.
Annnndddd, do NOT put your head into the water. I should have put my hair up in a bun so that it didn’t touch the water.

What to Bring

The Blue Lagoon has towels, robes and slippers for rent. They also provide shampoo, conditioner and hair dryers. No need to bring those.
This is a well oiled machine.

Location

The Blue Lagoon is close to the airport, and about 50 minutes from Reykavik so I would consider making it your first or last day activity.

There is also a natural arch over the water that is spectacular.

Beware the sneaker waves. Don’t go too close to the shore line and you’ll be fine.

Skogafoss

En route to Vik (above) you can’t help but notice the AMAZING Skogafoss!
It’s a majestic and gorgeous waterfall you see in the images above.

This is definitely worth a quick stop!

IF you brought crampons, this is a good time to bust them out.
The mist from the falls creates quite an icy surface.

Iceland Trip | Gullfoss waterfall in Iceland, worth seeing with lifestyle blogger Erin Busbee of Busbee Style

Gullfoss & Geysir

On our last day, before heading to the airport, we drove to see the Geysirs and Gullfoss.
Gullfoss looked like something Elsa would create in the movie, “Frozen.” It was surreal!
We did not see a huge exploding Geysir, more like a bubble. The weather was also SO cold, we couldn’t tolerate waiting that long.
If you have great weather, I’m sure you can see the more dramatic explosion.

Game of Thrones fans can see many sites from the show in Iceland.

How to Find the Right Moisturizer For Your Skin Type

Best Moisturizer for Your Skin

Whether you are walking down the aisle of store or browsing online, the sheer amount of skincare is BEYOND intimidating!
There are vastly different ingredients, for a variety of different skin types… at all prices.
Without some focus and clarity, you could end up wasting a ton of time and money trying to find the right products.

Find What’s Right For YOU

Nordstrom has an AMAZING resource called the “Moisturizer Guide” that helps you find the moisturizer that is right for YOUR skin.
The results are based on a very short quiz.
My ‘top concerns’ are: dryness and anti-aging properties…
You can even factor in cream consistency. I explained how easy it is below.

My Results

When I completed the Moisturizer Guide, which took all of about one minute, Clinique Smart Night was one of the products that popped up.

(Another result for my skin type was the La Mer Mini Miracles Collection which I reviewed earlier in the week here.)

I’ve always been a fan of Clinique, and I think the pricing is great, so I decided to pick up the De-Aging Experts Set (above).
I like that the set comes with a day and night cream, eye cream and serum.
I have only been using this set a short time, so it’s too soon to report findings, but I will keep you posted.

What’s Right For YOU?

So… all in, I think I spent about five minutes finding a couple of regimes that are affordable and technically ‘right’ for my dry, aging skin.
The Nordstrom Moisturizer Guide makes the process SO much faster and easier!

A couple of things to consider before you click ‘buy’…

1) I would order a sample size or gift set when trying a new line to make sure you like it and it reacts well with your skin type
2) Consider whether you want a built in SPF. I happen to prefer that so I can skip a step in the morning.
3) Think about consistency. Maybe you prefer a thicker cream over a lotion or vice versa.
4) DO remember an eye cream. While it’s an extra step and expense, you have to take care of that delicate skin around your eyes.
I wish I could go back in time and share this with 30-year old Erin.

Ten Changes You’ll Notice After Turning 40

10 Changes You Will Notice After Turning 40 | Fashion Blogger, Erin Busbee of Busbee Style wearing plaid cupcakes and cashmere coatPLAID COAT

Ten Changes You’ll Notice After Turning 40

I am not sure what I expected from this decade, but I can tell you that so far, I feel more confident and at peace in my 40’s than ever before! I’m sharing my thoughts about middle age, and the changes I’ve noticed in the VIDEO above (and below).

I also did a video a couple year ago about how I felt turning 40 that you can watch here.

Grab your coffee and let’s do this!!

1) You Do Not Sweat The Small Stuff

I think there is a peace and calm that comes with age. You do not worry as much about the little things. My husband told me this would happen, but I had to experience it for myself to truly understand. This has been one of the most impactful things that I have noticed since turning 40.

2) You Are More At Peace With Wrinkles

You still notice your wrinkles…but you’re not as obsessed with them. In my experience, I was more panicked about wrinkles popping up during my 30’s. I still have wrinkles showing up pretty much daily, but I have a much calmer attitude about my wrinkles now.

3) You Hear Words Like Hormones & Menopause A LOT More!

You might have heard these words in your 30’s… but you weren’t paying attention. Words like hormones and menopause get tossed around regularly and you now listen! Your hormones can be a real roller coaster in your 40’s. I strongly recommend talking to your GYN or finding a doctor who will test your hormones if you don’t feel like yourself. I did a video on the signs of menopause. You can watch the video and read the post here.

4) You Have To Work Harder To Stay In Shape (And, It’s More About Staying Strong Than Aesthetics)

I feel like I have to work harder to stay in shape. I know that gets even harder as you get older. I’d say this is one of the rare drawbacks to getting older. My mindset about working out has also changed. It’s no longer about a killer bod… Now it’s more about being strong and healthy, with good joints and knees.

5) You Think Twice When It Comes To Dressing Sexy

I’m not saying that you can’t be sexy over 40. But, I definitely check myself, and think twice about wearing certain things. I adhere to the one skin rule and only show one area at a time. If I have a revealing neckline, I keep my lower half covered. If I’m showing off some legs, I keep my upper body more conservative.

6) You Start Losing Your Vision

People told me…but I didn’t listen. The minute I turned 40, I needed reading glasses! I’ve embraced it and decided to get the world’s cutest readers…

7) You Don’t Care As Much About What Other People Think

The next change that happens that’s really wonderful and freeing… is that you don’t care (as much) what people think about you! For real. Not kidding. An amazing effect of this freedom… you stop saying yes to things that drain your time and energy, with little return. This extra time brings you joy and allows you to focus on the things that you really want to do.

8) You Won’t Put Up With Crap

You don’t just reevaluate your time, but who you’re spending your time with. After 40 you may find yourself questioning relationships. Are you surrounding yourself with quality people? Are they bringing joy and inspiration into your life? Is the relationship reciprocal? Sometimes the answer is no. Letting go of friendships is difficult and feels like real loss, but there is also a lot of freedom and light that comes.

9) You Are More Empathetic

I think you start to have a lot more forgiveness, understanding, sympathy, and empathy for others around you. This comes from being more at peace with who and where you are in life. I think empathy also comes more easily because you finally get that someone else’s problems have nothing to do with you.

10) Your Impact Is Important

This has been the most important and impactful change I’ve experienced since turning 40. You really do think about the impact that you have on the world and people around you. I feel like the first half of my life was all about me. And, this amazing decade is all about what I can do for others.

What are some changes YOU have noticed since turning 40? Please comment and let me know below.

Wearing All White

You CAN Wear All White… and Still Look Slim

Wearing all white doesn’t have to mean looking heavier.
There are a few secrets to looking slimmer when wearing this traditionally unforgiving color.

Monochromatic Looks Are Slimming

Anytime you wear one color from head to toe, it has an elongating effect, and white is no exception.

Wide Leg Pants

Another trick to looking longer and taller (whether you are wearing all white or not)…wear wide leg pants.
This pair my Milly runs large and long.
I’m wearing a size 0. I suggest sizing down one size. I can also hem my pants about 1/4 inch. I just haven’t gotten around to doing it.
(So, please do not write me that my pants are too long. LOL).
You want to tailor your pants so they are 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch off the ground. This will keep you looking as long and lean as possible.
You should only see a SLIVER of the front of the shoes.

Pointed Toe Heels

When you wear heels, you obviously gain height, which will make you look slimmer.
The pointed toe peeping out of the bottom of the trousers, will add the illusion of even more length.
These trendy mules are from Target, btw, and ONLY $34!

Fabric Choice is Key

When buying white separates, you should also be aware of your fabric choice.
Thin fabrics like jersey will be less forgiving, than thicker white fabrics.
These pants, for example, are quite thick and will hide all lumps and bumps.
A body skimming sweater is a great option.

Body Skimming

Like your fabric choice, your fit is also very important, especially when wearing white.
When in doubt, opt for body skimming fits, rather than clingy silhouettes, which may highlight lumps and bumps.

Neutral Accessories

To keep the line long, you want to make sure your accessories are also light or neutral tones.
