What I Wore | NYC | Packing Tips

Traveling to New York with your family is a LOT different than traveling solo for work.
This trip… I was in FULL mommy mode!
That meant three words, FUNCTION, FUNCTION, and FUNCTION.
(And, of course, a little fashion sprinkled in.)

In the video (above), I walk you through “What I Wore” on this trip.

And, more packing tips!

How to pack lightly, how to pack a carry on suitcase, how to save space in your suitcase

How to Pack

My goal, in addition to packing functional clothes and shoes, was to pack VERY lightly.
I got everything in a carry on! And, packed both kids in ONE carry on suitcase.

Mix & Match

“I was able to pack lightly by creating a mini capsule wardrobe… where everything works seamlessly together.”

When you pack one color story, along with basics that all mix and match together… you can pack much lighter.
You also need to carefully strategize your shoe selection, picking pairs of shoes with maximum versatility.
That means bringing neutral colors like metallics, black, or nudes.
My color story for this trip was black.
I brought black basics, and added interest to my looks with accessories.

Accessories

Keeping your accessories lean is also a great way to pack lighter.
I only brought a few KEY accessories.
For example, I packed these hoop earrings that go with everything… because they are BOTH gold and silver.
This black clutch worked well with ALL three of my evening outfits.
It’s super pricey, but I can tell you that I carry it ALL the time!
Here is an elegant option for less.
And, I packed this choker to dress up an otherwise basic black outfit.

I’ve done a packing video before about mixing and matching.
You can watch that here.

Tools

I also use packing cubes. Here are some large cubes.
Be sure to buy varying cube sizes or buy a set like this.
I use these resealable, air tight bags too! They are awesome!
They create an air tight effect, without the hassle of the vacuum.

I found the Elizabeth Cole choker on sale here.

Also, I DID find the white faux leather jacket!! It’s on SALE for $82!

I brought this Valentino clutch too. I carried it all 3 evenings out.

  1. Hi Erin, I just recently “discovered” you and am thoroughly enjoying all your videos! I have a question about your most recent LOFT try on video… I have that white geo lace top and I really like the Sheln lace cami you have on underneath. However I am not familiar with that company and I looked at the sizing chart for that particular item and I’m kind of in between a M and a L in the bust measurements. I’m usually a size 6 and a small or medium. Did that cami run true to size for you? The reviews are kinda mixed.

    1. Hi Jackie… I check the size chart for every piece on that site. There is NO uniformity of sizing. I would always size up if between sizes.
The quality is always so-so.. and the price reflects that. It’s a gamble. I can vouch for that cami being decent, but it’s definitely not high quality.
I think if you like the way it looks, and you are looking for a cami that is super affordable… this is a great opion. Otherwise, I can recommend higher quality options. Erin xo

      1. Thank you for the quick reply Erin. I’m going to go ahead and order the size up. For the price I think it’ll be fine…I have other good quality cami’s but liked the v-neck and more sheer coverage look under this top.. Plus, less is more sometimes in this Texas heat! Thank you for your help, I appreciate it. Jackie
