From the boots to the skies to the helmet, to the jacket, and the base layers… ski gear gets REALLY expensive, really quickly. I prefer to wear ski gear that is technologically advanced to keep me as warm and dry as possible. And, of course, I want to look stylish out there on the slopes… as a result I tend to prefer high-end, luxury ski gear brands…much to my dismay.
In order to check all those boxes… and not go broke, I always shop for ski gear on eBay first.
I search for super high-end brands in my jackets, pants, even a onesie ski jumpsuit! The ski suit is back, by the way, one of the mountain stores here said last year they flew out of the store. My ski suit is by Cordova, you can find one here on eBay. My husband told me I looked like Uma Thurman in Kill Bill… and I will take it!! Now, that we live here and ski more regularly, I think it only makes sense to have a little fun with ski fashion!
Brands I Look For on eBay
So, let’s talk brands. I have a LOT of favorites and I’ll share my list with you. When I shop on eBay, I’ll narrow my search to only include these brands and “Buy it Now” options so I don’t have to mess around with an auction and bidding.
Ski Gear Brands I Love:
I wear custom Salomon ski boots. I opted for custom boots since I have a very narrow foot but need a larger toe box for my bunions. For those that don’t know, bunions are simply the bones on the side of your feet that can be painful. Salomon now sells ski boots with built-in heaters. I found a pair here.

I also had Hotronics boot warmers installed in my boots so my toes do not get cold. I have horrible circulation, and even on the warmest day my hands and feet get cold. I’ll address the hands in a minute. There are also heated socks and boot gloves. You could go with one option, double down or try all three!
You can always throw the disposable hand warmers in your mittens and those work really well for about 2 hours. Sometimes they last longer. If I go this route, I usually bring a backup pair in my jacket. You don’t want to buy these on the mountain as they will be double, maybe triple the price. Last year I invested in heated mittens. The options are lean and I will be the first to admit the aesthetics of my heated mittens are not the best. Mine are large for my hands. BUT, your hands stay warm! You have two heat settings as well.
Skiing without a helmet is like riding a motorcycle without one. I almost can’t believe I used to ONLY wear a hat! Just last week I was waiting for the kids on the side of a groomed trail and out of nowhere, a teenager flies out of the forest… out of control. He came within millimeters of taking me out, and it would have been REALLY bad. I was shaken and in a bit of shock so I said absolutely nothing, and just skied off with the kids. Even if you are the best skiier, this scenario can happens. My husband is an amazing skier and he has a similar story where a woman DID take hi down and he broke several ribs. It’s a dangerous sport… no question. SO, that is a very long-winded way to saying, WEAR A HELMET. Shop helmets on eBay here.
I have two helmets: a dark silver one and this white one by Bolle. I even added a Bluetooth headset to my helmet so I can listen to music while skiing, AND answer my telephone with a tap. Chris has taken conference calls on the gondola with his. You obviously have to be careful with the music, paying close attention to those around you, but I have to tell you there is nothing like skiing while listening to some of your favorite music on a bluebird day.
For two years I’ve been talking about upgrading my goggles. The problem is… you should really buy goggles that work best with your helmet. I would suggest buying a helmet you love FIRST and then grabbing goggles. My plan is to upgrade to the interchangeable lens goggles. You can shop some of those goggles here.
You can also shop for skies on eBay!
Did you know that 80% of the pieces sold on eBay are BRAND NEW? And, in many cases, you can also get free shipping in under 2 days?? All you have to do is …narrow your search by checking “New” under “Condition.” I talk more about how to shop eBay like a PRO in this post.
