My Easy Outfit Formula in 6 Simple Steps

I really don’t deviate much from this formula. Once you have it down, you can swap out pieces to keep it exciting and interesting. but this should be a look that makes you feel comfortable. It should also be a look that’s versatile and can take you from running errands… to dinner. Here are the six simple steps I use!

1) Begin With Jeans

As you can see above, I’m wearing a very basic pair of dark wash skinny jeans. I wear jeans almost every day so it’s only natural they are part of my formula. If you don’t like skinny jeans, your formula might be bootcut or straight jeans instead! It’s whatever you’re most comfortable in!

2) Select a Layering Top

The next piece is to find a basic layering top. It can be a tee, cami, blouse, etc. It can have some detail but it should be simple. I’m wearing a white cami with a simple lace trim. It’s easy to layer under everything and it’s neutral so I’ll be able to style it with multiple things!

3) Add Your Third Layer

The third step is to add a third layer. For me, this is usually some sort of jacket like a moto or blazer. In this look, I’m wearing an oversized, long-line plaid blazer. I got this one from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this year. You can find more of my favorites from that sale here. This exact print is sold out so I linked similar options.

4) Time to Accessorize

This accessory will be something that elevates the look. It can be a cool bracelet, a fun necklace, earrings, a scarf, or whatever you want. I love to wear layered necklaces or unique rings. In this look, I’m wearing a necklace by Tat2 Designs. You can find some of their modern pieces on Amazon here.

5) Can’t Forget Shoes

When deciding on shoes, think about the weather forecast, what you’ll be doing, where you’re going, if it involves a lot of walking, etc.

6) Last But Not Least… Bring a Handbag

Finally, picking out a handbag is the last step. This is really a personal preference for everyone! Some people love giant bags to fit all of their stuff. Now that my kids are getting a bit older, I prefer something smaller to carry just the essentials. Picking a neutral handbag is always best so that it’s more versatile.
