20 Wedding Guest Dresses For Spring Over 40

#1) Veronica Beard Blue Radley Dress

When you think of spring dresses, what do you think of? I often think of bright colors, softer pastel hues, floral prints, and feminine silhouettes! So when I saw this gorgeous Veronica Beard maxi dress, I knew it would be perfect for spring…but more specifically, a spring wedding! This dress has a chic crisscross neckline, high-low hem, pleated details, a tiered skirt, and comes in the most beautiful bright blue color. In the photo, I styled it with a pair of ivory booties. But for a spring wedding, I would wear some strappy-heeled sandals or chic pumps.

I kept my jewelry understated with a pair of classic gold hoops but you could take it up a notch with some fun statement earrings too. Add your favorite neutral clutch and you’re ready for your next spring wedding! This dress runs true to size and you can wear a strapless bra with it.

#2) Farm Rio Pink Draped Satin Maxi Dress

If you liked the first option but prefer to cover your arms, this maxi dress is for you! This Farm Rio dress is a more modest (but still chic) option for a spring wedding. I love that it has longer sleeves and a long hemline for added coverage. It does have a small peek-a-boo cutout right under the bust that’s actually very flattering because of the strategic draping on the chest. I also love the elegance of the silky satin fabric. You can wear a regular bra and it won’t show at the cutout. I styled it with the same ivory booties, but I would love to wear this to a spring wedding with some white heels or sandals, a white clutch, and some fun statement earrings.

#1) Bardot Pink Impala Midi Dress

How do you feel about the color pink? In case you couldn’t tell…I love pink! And it’s a super on-trend color right now. This Bardot dress is a beautiful shade of pink, has on-trend puff sleeves, and strategically flattering cutouts at the waist. It’s one of those eye-catching dresses that really makes a statement but is appropriate and elegant. It’s just under $200, which is a wonderful price point for a dress of this quality! Style it with some strappy sandals, a small clutch, and pretty crystal statement earrings for your next wedding.

#2) Amanda Uprichard Pink Morrison Dress

Amanda Uprichard is one of my favorite brands! They have beautiful, classic pieces that always have some interesting twist that makes them more modern. This pretty pink midi dress is lightweight, has a slit on the side, and a boat neck with knotted details. The color is perfect and you’ll be able to wear it for multiple occasions this spring and summer.

#3) Bardot Nessa Floral Mini Dress

This is another beautiful pink dress option by Bardot. Bardot has great dresses at affordable prices (considering the quality). I love the billowy long sleeves, flounce hem, button detailing on the chest and cuffs, stand collar, and small-scale print. You can wear this dress to a spring wedding with strappy heels or to brunch with some chic white sneakers. It’s very versatile!

Tip: If you’re going to wear a print, try to find one that’s a smaller scale like this one so it’s not as overpowering.

#4) MISA Saffie Dress

Misa Los Angeles is a brand known for their gorgeous prints and dresses. I love that this mini dress shows off the legs, has flutter sleeves, and cinches in at the waist to create the look of an hourglass figure. I love that it has a higher neckline to contrast the exposed legs too. Pair it with some ankle wrap heels and a cute bag for your next spring or summer wedding.

#5) Staud Lavender Wells Dress

How gorgeous is this lavender Staud dress?! Lavender is such a pretty color for spring (especially if pink isn’t your style). This midi dress has a flattering scoop neck and back. The darting and A-line silhouette are SO flattering. And because it’s cotton poplin, the fabric is super cool and breathable if you tend to run hot. If you’ll feel more comfortable covering your arms or the ceremony is in a church, you can add a neutral wrap to cover your shoulders. I would wear this dress with a pair of neutral mules (with a heel) and a fabulous statement clutch or bag.

#6) A.L.C. Purple Floral Lilah Dress

If you’re a print lover, this dress is for you! I love this intricate purple orchid print for a spring garden wedding. All of the details are so pretty and feminine…the sweetheart neckline, thin spaghetti straps (adjustable), ruffled hem, smocked back, ruched bodice…perfection! It’s also 100% cotton so you’ll stay cool. Style it with some black strappy heels and a small black bag.

#7) Shoshanna Blue Printed Darcy Dress

I purchased this dress last year in a different print and LOVE it. I actually wore it to a summer wedding and it was perfect. It’s a modest, sophisticated option that’s still very chic and modern. The blue and white print is classic but there are a few details that add some modernity to the dress like the scalloped sleeves, crocheted lace around the neckline, and the flounce hem. It’s meant to have a more fitted silhouette so that’s a consideration.

#8) MISA Floral Ahreana Dress

This Misa Los Angeles maxi dress is one of those types of dresses you can wear to pretty much any occasion. The flowy printed fabric is gorgeous for spring, the smocked waist is super flattering, the subtle puff shoulders are a pretty touch, and the v-neckline is very flattering. Style it with lace-up sandals and a clutch for a wedding, sneakers and a tote for errands, or mules and a chic handbag for lunch with friends.

#9) Norma Kamali Blue Diana Dress

You’ve probably seen this Norma Kamali dress before…it comes in a ton of colors, is SO flattering, and can be worn to any special event you have coming up. I don’t know how they did it…but the all-over ruching on this dress combined with the fitted silhouette is actually great for hiding a tummy! Add the asymmetrical hem and neckline and you’ve got the perfect dress! Wear it with pumps for a more formal wedding or strappy heels for a cocktail dress code.

#10) Diarrablu Gnoor Dress

I can envision this beautiful Diarrablu floor-length dress at a fun beach wedding this spring and summer. I recently purchased the one-shoulder kaftan version of this dress and I love the print so much. It’s almost sold out, which is why I’m featuring the tie-neck version. They’re both beautiful and I love the flounce hem on this dress.

#11) Self Portrait Pale Green Pleated Midi Dress

If you prefer softer, more muted pastel colors for spring, this Self Portrait dress is a beautiful option. It’s SO elegant and sophisticated. It has long sheer sleeves, so you still get the arm coverage without the added heat. The midi length is perfect if you want to cover your legs and the A-line silhouette is super flattering. It has a belt (you can remove it if you want) that helps cinch your waist. The pleated fabric, lace details, small keyhole details on the front and back, and the chic collared neck are all such chic touches that make this dress an understated show-stopper.

#12) Shoshanna Green Layne Dress

The color of this mini dress by Shoshanna is what originally caught my eye. But I love the intricate lace, flounce hem, square neckline, and fun puff sleeves. Since these sleeves are shorter, you get arm coverage without the full length sleeves, which is so nice. I’d style this with nude pumps, a clutch, and some fun jewelry for a cocktail or semi-formal wedding.

#13) Mango Green Satin Wrap Dress

A wrap dress is SO flattering for most body types. This wrap dress is one you can dress up for a wedding or down for dinner or lunch. I love the color, longer sleeves, shorter hemline, and wrap style. It’s a pretty basic dress which means you can have some fun with your shoes and accessories to create the perfect spring wedding guest outfit! Plus, it’s only $80.

#14) Mango Green Pleated Long Dress

Another super flattering silhouette or design detail is anything with an empire waist. This light green midi dress from Mango has the flattering empire waist, chic pleating, forgiving fit, and is super affordable!

#15) Acler Yellow Balmoral Mini Dress

Can’t you imagine this gorgeous yellow mini dress at a beautiful garden wedding?! The shade and intricate lace are so pretty, I love the puff detailing, and the flounce hem and banded waist are super flattering. Style this with a fun woven clutch and strappy sandals on vacation or at a wedding!

#16) Ulla Johnson Fiorella Dress

The next couple of dresses are options you can wear even after spring and summer. A chic black dress is a must-have in every woman’s closet. But I would take that a step further and say that every woman also needs a special event dress that’s black…with modern details. This Ulla Johnson dress is a great example. It has a super flattering A-line silhouette and camouflaging ruching around the tummy and chest. The asymmetrical neckline and one should detail are also super flattering. And the length is perfect! Keep your accessories all black for a polished look or add some fun statement earrings to take it up a notch and have a little fun.

#17) Self Portrait Black Grid Lace Midi Dress

Next up is this Self Portrait dress with some fun, modern details. I love the crocheted lace on this dress and the cutouts around the waist. The shorter lining and extended crochet lace are also so chic. It has very subtle puff sleeves and ruffle skirt to mix some femininity into the more masculine grid-like fabric. I’d style it with some black lace-up heels and a black clutch for a wedding.

#18) Black Halo Olcay Asymmetrical Dress

If you prefer something a little more classic, this Black Halo dress is the one for you! It’s a very classic cut, has sleeves, and can be dressed up or down. I also love the chic asymmetrical hemline.

#19) Open Edit Black Satin Slip Dress

Slip dresses have become very on-trend over the past year or two so I wanted to include an affordable ($69!) option for you to try with some simple style tips to make it work for the next spring wedding you attend. If I’m feeling confident, I’d wear the slip dress with some strappy heels, a fabulous clutch, and some chic, bold gold jewelry. If I wanted to add a little more coverage, I’d wear a wrap, shawl, blazer, jacket, etc. to cover my shoulders and arms. Another option is to throw on a sweater over the slip dress for a cool, casual effortless look.

#20) Good American Black Strapless V Scuba Jumpsuit

I LOVE jumpsuits so of course I had to include an option in this roundup! A Team Busbee member recently ordered this jumpsuit for a wedding and said the fit is amazing. It has thicker scuba fabric that helps hide any skin imperfections, the V-neckline isn’t too low cut, and the length is great with heels on. Create the perfect wedding guest outfit by adding a pair of fabulous heels, a clutch, and some statement jewelry.

  1. Hi Erin, I love your posts! I am looking for travel clothes… pieces that look elevated and polished, don’t wrinkle, and are comfortable. I love the idea of a blazer with pockets but I cannot find one. No to Chicos Travelers Collection… their colors and huge prints are not flattering. For reference I am 63, 5’4”, and 130 lbs. And I’m pear shaped, very self conscious about my bottom half. Thank you in advance!

  2. I love many of these but No. 17 is a must-have for me. You, of course, look gorgeous in everything. Thanks, Erin!
