London is a city of many villages each with their own vibe so there is something for everyone. I briefly lived in London and also taught college courses there and I think The Museum of London is often overlooked. It’s one of my favorites and is free! It’s great for kids and adults alike. You can walk the streets of Victorian London, imagine yourself in an18th century pleasure garden, spend some time in a 16th century jail cell, see a bit of the 2000 year old Roman Wall that once enclosed the city, or view the 2012 Olympic Cauldron up close and personal. To top it off, the museum itself is part of the Barbican complex that was built on a bombed out WWII site. You can meander its elevated walkways to discover more Roman Wall, an historic church that managed to survive the bombing, shops, cafes, cinema, theatre, and an art museum surrounded by some of the newest contemporary skyscrapers. It is a city within a city.
