Wardrobe Basic with a Twist
A basic white t-shirt is one of those items on my wardrobe basics checklist. It’s a VERY important piece to have in your closet. If you don’t have my wardrobe basics checklist, subscribe here to get the two lists for FREE. If you already have your basic white tee but want to expand your “tee-drobe” (it’s a thing) this post is for you! I’m also talking a bit more about the art of finding the perfect white tee.
What to Look For in a White T-Shirt
What you are going to look for depends on what you want. Do you want something thick enough, you don’t need to wear a tank or camisole underneath? Do you want short sleeves, 3/4 sleeves? A more billowy silhouette or something more fitted??
Here is what I traditionally look for in a white tee:
1) Body SKIMMING, not fitting. I like a little breathing room with my tees.
2) I always want tees that are cotton, Pima cotton or linen, and cotton blends.
3) A tee with a twist! I like modern details on all of my basics!
4) And, I prefer short sleeves in the spring that are NOT cap sleeves, nor too tight around the arms.

#1 | Twist Front Tee
This twist front tee is by one of my favorite Bloomingdale’s brands… AQUA. I’ve gushed about their amazing (and affordable) cashmere sweaters. But they have tons of other styles that are just as stylish! I love this twist front tee because it literally adds an unexpected twist to a basic white tee. It’s a cropped style, thick enough for a regular bra, and super comfortable. Since it’s cropped, it’s best to wear it with high waist jeans. I’m wearing it with these Mother jeans. They have a cool raw hem and I love the light wash denim for spring. To finish off the look I’m wearing Dolce Vita ankle booties. They are the perfect neutral color for spring and will definitely go with everything!

#2 | Gold Foil Tee
How cool is this new tee with a gold foil trim on the hemline, sleeves, and neckline? It adds such a pop of interest to an otherwise basic white tee. I also love how lightweight it is. It’s a little sheer but you should be fine with a nude bra. You can also wear a nude or white cami if that makes you feel more comfortable.
I’m wearing the same Mother jeans and Dolce Vita ankle booties. It took me a while to start wearing Mother jeans, but over the past few years, I’ve become SUCH a BIG fan! Their jeans fit so beautifully and I love all of the cropped styles on my petite frame.

#3 | Longer, Swing Tee
I grabbed the 3rd white tee for those of you who want more forgiveness. If you have a tummy or love handles, the Annabel Swing Tee will be perfect for you. The flowy silhouette will not cling to the body. It has two inverted pleats at the top so it maintains more of a trapeze-like shape. It’s also long enough to cover your bum. I love the tee in white, but it also comes in pink, navy, and light blue. Throw on some jeans and booties and you have an easy, everyday look! Add more polish to the look with a blazer or moto jacket.

Which tee??
I have to say i dont care for any of these tees. it may be the photos but they dint even look white. Sort of pinkish. I dont like the way the faBric looks over washed and Flimsy. I like a heavy cotton tee with shaping sIdes and a neckline that holds up to washing and not too low. I like the length to be generous. I also dont cAre FOr the bUnching at the Tummy.
What tees are your favorite? The vintage look is very modern and trendy. I think that is what you are seeing. Thanks! Erin xo
I loved the White Stage tees from Walmart. I have them in every color immaginable. They held up their color and shape wIth no see through. Sadly, Walmart has discontinued White Stag. So i’ll keep wearing the ones I have until they finally wear out.
I did purchase a few tees that had a three quarters sleeve. They were very flattering but were ChInese sizes!
GREAT tip! Thanks! I’m doing a Walmart collab next month, maybe I’ll feature the tees. Thank you! Erin xo
Oh no… just reading they are discontinued. Bummer!
