Veja Sneakers Honest Review

Chances are, you’ve probably seen someone wearing Veja sneakers. The classic V-logo on the side of the sleek white sneakers, along with how cute they are, is eye-catching. I’ve seen these sneakers styled with everything…jeans, shorts, denim shorts, skirts, pants, and dresses. The sneakers trend has been around for a while and it’s safe to say it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. But are Veja sneakers worth it? Are they comfortable? And what are the best Veja sneaker styles? I’m giving my honest review of the Veja sneakers and answering all of your questions. I am sharing the pluses and minuses of these cute kicks. Veja Sneaker Pros

Why is Veja So Popular?

First, let’s talk about why these Veja sneakers are so popular! Do you remember Meghan Markle wearing the white Veja sneakers back in 2020? After that, they blew up! Everyone has these stylish sneakers now. I bought them in 2020 and thought it would be helpful to share my honest review of the sneakers and the brand.

Sustainable

Over the past year, you’ve probably heard something about “sustainable fashion” at least once. It’s becoming more and more popular and important for people to find clothing brands that use better practices and materials. The best part about Veja, to me, is that they are socially responsible and environmentally friendly, making them one of the best, affordable sustainable sneaker brands. They use fair trade methods and organic materials sourced from farms and ecological agriculture. Plus, they avoid chemicals and polluting processes in their production. You can feel good buying these organic cotton and leather sneakers.

Stylish

The second best thing about Veja sneakers is that they are stylish! Sneakers are having a moment and if you’re going to choose one brand to try out, why not pick one that’s sustainable and stylish!?

Which Are The Most Popular Veja Sneakers?

There are quite a few Veja styles that are all so cute. The most popular are the Veja V-10 sneakers, Veja V-12 sneakers, Veja Campo sneakers, and Veja Esplar sneakers. They even have running shoes and some cute velcro sneakers added to their collection. I have the V-10 in classic black and white and I love them! But they also come in really fun colors too.

Sizing

This isn’t necessarily a pro or a con but definitely something I want to point out. They run a little big so I would recommend sizing down one full size. Just a reminder that this was my experience with the V-10 sneakers when I bought them in 2020 so different styles may have different sizing and/or their sizing may be a little different now. There’s a chance that other pairs of Veja sneakers run true to size.
They come in European sizing, which can be confusing if the retailer doesn’t break it down for you. So I’m breaking it down just in case…

EU 37 = US 6
EU 38 = US 7
EU 39 = US 8
…and so on.

Price Point

The last thing I want to mention is that these shoes are a great price point for the quality. Vejas all cost around $140-$200 and you’ll wear them for years as long as you take good care of them!

Out-of-the-Box Comfort Level – Are Veja Shoes Comfortable?

There are not very many cons to these sneakers. But the main issue I had with them is that they took a LONG TIME to break in.

How To Break In Veja Sneakers

I’d say it took 5-10 wears…at least… to fully break them in. You have to be committed to breaking them in or they will never be comfortable. But if you don’t want to take the time, I would honestly skip buying them. Out of the box they are very stiff. To break them in, consider wearing them around your house for a few days first. I don’t recommend wearing these anywhere you’re going to be walking a lot (like a European vacation, shopping, running errands, etc.) until you feel that you’ve fully broken them in. Another break-in hack is to put your shoes in the freezer. All you have to do is put a bag of water into the shoes and let them sit in the freezer overnight to stretch out the areas that feel snug to you.

Kaitlyn’s Take:

Veja sneakers were not my favorite, but I still love the style. Even after multiple wears, they gave me blisters on the back of my ankles and heels. They never felt completely broken in. In fact, I’ve dealt with stress fractures in my heels for years. And felt that these sneakers didn’t give me enough support there. Everyone’s feet are different so I’d definitely give them a try if you like the style!

Are Vejas Worth It?

Considering the quality, price, and comfort (after they’re broken in), I personally think they’re worth the money! They’re super stylish, so easy to style with all your casual outfits, and cool. The sneaker trend is not going anywhere anytime soon so it’s a fairly low investment if you consider cost-per-wear! Shop more Veja sneakers below.

Veja are the most uncomfortable sneakers I have ever had in my life. I don’t know why they are called comfortable. I read a lot about their comfort and that’s why I decided to buy them. But unfortunately my expectations were not met. After wearing the sneakers for three days, I had to go to emergency care where I was diagnosed with tendonitis. I have been undergoing treatment for 2 months now. I spent a lot of money, but the company refused to reimburse at least the cost of the sneakers. I think anyone who cares about their feet and comfort should refuse these sneakers.

    • Erin Busbee says:

So sorry to hear about your awful experience, Galina… Shoes are TOUGH to get right, with all of us having such unique needs to provide for the best level of fit and comfort. As mentioned, these ones did take a long time for Erin to break in, and other team members weren’t a fan of them either as far as comfort goes. The comfort of our feet really are is important to how we function day to day, so many women find it best to use custom insoles in every pair of shoes they wear to ensure that comfort level is just right. I hope you have found something that works well for you. Thanks for sharing your own experience with us! ~Team Busbee

I was surprised you didn’t mention the long tongue on the Vega. I really wanted to love these sneakers, but couldn’t get past the uncomfortable tongue.

I really wanted to love these shoes too… but definitely not my favorite! Thanks for sharing your own experience, Peggy! ~Erin xo

  6. Jennifer says:

I have the Esplars. I found them to be comfortable right out of the box, and I love the way they look. My only complaint is that they don’t have much support at all, so they probably wouldn’t be my top choice if I had to walk long distances.

  7. Mimi Kinkead says:

Which sneakers do you recommend that aren’t so stiff? Can you do a review of designer white low top sneakers like Gucci, Prada, etc? They all seem very stiff. Love my basic Cole Haan white low top sneakers but would love to have a more dressy/designer option. Thanks!

  8. Katie says:

I love this post – I’d love to see more on other fashion sneakers! I have a pair of Esplar Veja. I read that the tongue of the shoe can dig into your leg but I didn’t find that to be true for me. They don’t have a lot of support so I only choose them for shorter “wears”.

    • Erin Busbee says:

Great idea, Katie! Thanks for the suggestion – I love sneakers… You can always try adding in an insole for added support and comfort! ~Erin xo

  9. Mary Jo Speier says:

Just wondering why so many adds are suddenly popping up on your website. I have followed you for quite a while and the adds are a new and very frustrating development.
