Who knew chess could be so stylish? Have you watched the Netflix hit series Queen’s Gambit? It takes place in the 1960s and features a fictional chess star, Beth Harmon, played by Anya Taylor-Joy. Beth overcomes her less than perfect childhood as an orphan and her substance abuse issues to become a world chess champion contender. But her outfits….they are anything but nerdy! I found myself tuning in to see what she’d be wearing next. The troubled chess prodigy turns style idol and her classic looks are a major game changer! Chess is all about strategy. But fashion is strategic too in that choosing the right pieces to wear each day has a significant impact on how you feel as much as how you look. I’m sharing 3 Queen’s Gambit-inspired looks that are classic and timeless…winners.

Look #1) Vintage Details
In this first look, I’m wearing an & Other Stories, black and white mini dress with black heeled booties. The dress has gorgeous pearl buttons, a contrasting white color, and a pleated skirt. These are the details that make the dress so quintessentially classic and give off those retro vibes. It’s pretty amazing that a dress style considered chic and elegant in the 1960s is still relevant and on-trend today. I love buying pieces that will stand the test of time! This exact dress is only available in limited sizing, but I wanted to share some very similar options…
Black and white is both a timeless AND trending color combo. How can this be? Be sure to read this post for a fresh take on this trend in spring 2022 fashion.

Look #2) Tie-Neck
In this next look, I’m wearing another & Other Stories mini dress with a tie-neck and small polka dot pattern. The tie-neck can be worn knotted or in a bow. I’d wear it tied for the office and then open for dinner or date night. The fit and flare silhouette of the dress is very similar to Beth Harmon’s look in the photo above! It’s super flattering on its own, but you could also add a belt for more waist definition. I love this Elisabetta Franchi belt but sadly it isn’t available anywhere, but this is a similar option. There’s something about a tie-neck blouse or dress that is SO sophisticated and timeless! Here are a few standout pieces with the same tie-neck detail…

Look #3) Classic White Coat
A classic white coat is another timeless piece you can wear for seasons on end. This simple, one-button, lapel style coat from Express is the perfect length for wearing with dresses, skirts, or pants. It’s also lightweight so as we start to move into warmer months, it will transition beautifully into spring. I draped it over my shoulders which not only allows your arms to breathe but it’s definitely an effortless and chic look. I paired the coat with all winter-white, monochromatic pieces including a fun tulle skirt, sequin top, and accessories. The exact coat is sold in white, but there are many great white coat options to choose from. Here are a few that caught my eye…
STYLE TIP: As with most white clothing, it can be difficult to keep a white coat looking fresh and clean so I don’t recommend breaking the bank on this particular purchase!
