I love this reminder concerning basics every woman needs in her wardrobe. However, (and this may shock you :-)), I don’t wear white or black. As a redhead with fair skin, neither color looks good on me. I know I can substitute camel, brown, cream, etc. for your black and white pieces but am having a hard time finding things such as the classic white button down in a cream color or the right color LBD that would be appropriate for a funeral, etc. without being black. Perhaps you can do a take on “The Basics” for people who don’t wear white or black. Thanks for considering…
Evie… really? No black or white? I would definitely buy a button down in ivory or off-white to sub and a dress in navy for funerals. Wear nude or brown pumps or wedges with navy dress. It’s still a dark tone and appropriate for the occasion. Thanks for video idea!! Erin xo
Erin, thanks for great advice on these basics. A question: my daughter and I live in DC and my daughter-in-law lives in Telluride. What additions, if any, would you make for either? Katie is especially interested in your advice on “mountain-chic” for business.
I would buy a pair of wool or thick checked, wide leg trousers (not really a basic, but so on trend and lovely), a blanket wrap or poncho for sure, she’ll need nice weatherproof boots (Aquatalia), super thin, warm undergarments, definitely a black turtleneck and I would also pick up a white one (cashmere or blend with spandex)… TIGHTS for sure…that’s all I can think of right now. Hope that helps a little? Does Katie live in town or on mountain? Erin xo
