Have you ever thought to yourself… “I can’t wear that, I’ll stand out too much.” Sometimes as we get older it feels a little harder to wear statement pieces. And, what was once effortless to style, may now be a challenge. You also may second guess yourself when you put clothes on. My Big Secret

My secret for styling a statement piece? It boils down to three little words, keep it simple. Yep, that’s it! When in doubt, keep the rest of you outfit simple and neutral. For example, if you’re rocking a bib necklace, tone down the rest of your jewelry and wear a simple outfit to let the necklace do the talking. If you’re wearing statement shoes, keep the rest of your outfit neutral to let the shoes do their thing! In my look above, I let the coat make the statement…

Confidence is Key!

The other thing you need to wear a statement piece, confidence! For me, sometimes just throwing on a gorgeous piece like this wrap coat from Express… fuels my confidence! It inspired me to wear my bright pink lipstick and also style my hair a bit more elegantly.

Statement with Basics

You can see how simple and neutral the rest of my outfit is compared to my “flamingo pink” coat which definitely packs a style punch. Wow!! I saw it and knew I had to have it! It’s a wrap-style coat that’s super elegant and sophisticated, but the pink makes it a little more fun and exciting. It’s also very flattering because of the belted waist. The quality is wonderful, and the weight is perfect (mid-weight). You can still layer quite a bit underneath it too… even a blazer. It’s rare to find a coat that will layer over a blazer. If pink isn’t your style, it also comes in EIGHT other colors including a beautiful winter white!

Again, following my key tip, I let the coat make the statement and kept everything else simple. I’m wearing a classic pair of dark wash skinny jeans, black booties, and a super versatile white bodysuit.
