Galas or black tie events are my favorite things to shop for… And, also the most difficult.
Why? It’s SUCH a commitment to buy a gown. You know it’s going to be hanging in your closet for a decade…
AND it’s expensive!
You also have to tailor the purchase for the event.
In this case, I attended a “GLASSWING” charity gala in downtown NYC.
(CLICK HERE To learn more about Glasswing, founded by a friend of my husbands)
I wanted to look ‘elegant and understated.’
That basically eliminated sequins, plunging necklines and cutouts.
I also wanted to avoid black… because I knew it would be a sea of black.
I went to two stores on my gown search, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.
I tried on about 10 dresses, and ended up picking this one by Monique Lhuillier (size 2).
FEATURES of the DRESS
First, I love the color. I gravitate towards bright colors because I’m really fair.
I love the IDEA of wearing blush toned gowns, but they never pack the same punch.
Second, I thought the mermaid or fit and flare shape was flattering on my petite frame.
When I put on big, princess gowns, it often looks like they are wearing me.
I also like a wow factor.
With this dress, it’s the open back!
Additionally, lace is on trend and also a classic…
So it will be easy to wear years from now.
