5 Denim Trends You’ll See Everywhere & How to Make Them Work for You

Updating your jeans is one of the easiest ways to make your whole wardrobe feel more modern. But not every jean trend is worth your time or money.

Trends move fast. Gone by next season. You don’t have time for that, and honestly? Neither do I.

So I’m only highlighting the denim trends with real staying power. The ones you’ll actually love wearing, that fit right into your existing wardrobe. These five trends are cool, wearable, and flattering on real bodies.

Let’s get into it.

Jean Trend #1 – Barrel Leg Jeans

Barrel leg jeans look intimidating, but they’re actually one of the most flattering silhouettes out there. I felt the same way at first. “No way am I wearing those.” Once I tried on my first pair, I was hooked. The wider leg and high rise create the illusion of a smaller waist with no extra effort. As someone with a more rectangular body shape, that’s a major win. Plus they’re just really fun to wear.

Pair them with a classic button down like I’m wearing above. When you try a trendier piece, offset it with something timeless. Shoe choices are endless, just skip the tall boots.

Jean Trend #2 – Wide Leg Jeans

Wide leg jeans are having a major moment and I am here for it. They’re sophisticated, comfortable, and incredibly elongating.

They’re also flattering on almost every body shape. The wider leg balances the hips and creates the illusion of a smaller waist. A floor grazing hemline creates the look of legs for days, especially when paired with heels or wedges.

For shoes, a closed toe heel or boot in a similar color keeps the line long. In summer, opt for barely there sandals. This post breaks down all the shoe choices if you want to go deeper.

Below are some of my favorite wide leg jeans including Busbee best sellers like the L’Agence Scottie.

Jean Trend #3 – Slim-Straight Jeans

The slim straight jean is the grown-up cousin of the skinny. Same sleek, streamlined feel, but instead of clinging, it skims. That distinction matters. It’s the difference between feeling squeezed and feeling polished.

This is the silhouette that flatters just about every body type, hits beautifully at the ankle, and has that effortless quality that makes every outfit look more intentional.

One styling tip that might surprise you: a lower rise can actually be more flattering than a high rise because it doesn’t emphasize the lower tummy. If you’ve ever put on high rise jeans and thought “these are making my lower stomach actually look larger” you’re not alone. It’s a common fit issue, especially when the waist is smaller and the fabric has stretch. This Rag & Bone pair is lower rise, but not 90s-risk-showing-butt-crack low. Sophisticated low. Also ideal for petite frames thanks to the shorter inseam.

For the most flattering fit, aim for the hem to hit right around the ankle bone. As for shoes, you have so many options: a pointed toe flat, sleek sneaker, great sandals. Here’s everything you need to know.

A cuffed jean is one of those small details that makes a surprisingly big difference. A single fold at the hem takes an outfit from meh to “Okaaay, that’s interesting” with almost no effort.

The best part? You can try this trend right now with jeans you already own. Choose a stiffer pair to create the perfect crisp fold. Add a timeless top, tee, or tank and see the difference.

If you want something with a little more personality, this Cinq à Sept Benji Topstitch pair is really special. I own them in dark blue and white because I think they’re that cool.

The cuff naturally frames your footwear, so it’s the perfect excuse to wear something great. Ankle boots, strappy heels, or sleek sneakers all work beautifully.!

Still searching for that perfect pair? My favorite pairs of unicorn jeans are all right here.

This isn’t your typical runway trend. It’s one born entirely from social media and honestly, discoveries like this are why my relationship with social media is a little love/hate. These “jean-ious” pants look exactly like real jeans, complete with buttons, zippers, and front pockets, but they’re made from soft terry cotton fabric that feels just like sweatpants. The best of both worlds.

I’m wearing the Rag & Bone Miramar Sofie and they are next level comfortable. One important care note: do not put these in the dryer. Ever. French terry shrinks tremendously and you will never get the length back. Lay flat to dry and they will last you forever.

They also make a skirt in the same fabric and it might be even better (pictured above). So much more comfortable than a real denim skirt. I lounge around in mine, travel in it, and reach for it constantly.

If you love looking pulled together but refuse to sacrifice comfort, these are your holy grail. You can see another way I styled them here.

The Takeaway – Wear What Works for YOU

I know following trends can get overwhelming and expensive fast. But the truth is, you only need one or two that you actually love. Choose the silhouettes and styles that work for your body and your budget and I guarantee they will go a long way in modernizing your whole wardrobe.

And when you find a killer pair of jeans, you buy them in multiples. Here are all the wardrobe essentials I loved so much I did exactly that.
