When you browse through my five outfits below, you’ll quickly see just how versatile the trench coat really is…
You can literally pair it with jeans, pants, skirts, dresses, etc.!
There is a reason this classic piece is considered a wardrobe must-have…
Styling Your Wardrobe Staple: The Trench Coat
How to Tie a Trench Coat
First, I want to talk about how to tie the belt.
You don’t necessarily have to use the belt it comes with.
But if you do, consider leaving the trench open and knotting it in the back.
I think that simple knot is really chic and elegant…
plus it’s easy!
Another way to tie it is in the front. I think the go-to way is to take the two sides, (leaving the buckle side longer),
tie it once, and then tie it again, but instead of pulling the buckle side all the way through, leave it as a loop.
This looks polished and sophisticated.

What to Consider When Buying a Trench
A trench coat is so versatile, you can wear it with everything from jeans and a tee, to all black, all white, even a dress!
It’s a must have!
SHAPE: When selecting your trench (suggestions above) be sure to pick a flattering silhouette.
I prefer a belted trench to create an hourglass shape.
HEMLINE: Also, consider the hemline and what proportion/length will work best for you and your body.
COLOR: When thinking about color, think maximum versatility. I would buy a trench that is black, navy or beige/camel.

Look #1 | Striped Sweater & Denim Pants
For the first look, I paired the trench coat with this striped sweater and denim pants.
These pants are great! They have a zip on the side and cool split seam down the center of the legs…
creating a slimming effect.
I finished off the look with leopard pumps and cherry red sequined earrings.
The pop of red is really fun, and I love mixing an animal print with this camel color.

Look #2 | Tall Boots
Next is a really fun and sexy look!
I paired the trench with these dark wash skinny jeans and flat, almost thigh high boots by Stuart Weitzman.
Here is a simliar pair for less that I also own and LOVE by Marc Fisher.
I’m wearing this black cashmere sweater draped like a cowl neck rather than an off the shoulder sweater.
When you do this, it enables you to easily layer it under a coat or jacket. Plus, it looks chic too!

Look #3 | All Black
All black is always so sophisticated, slimming, and chic.
I think this look really shows off the trench coat.
The turtleneck has a unique, sheer, Swiss dot detailing along the sleeves. I paired it with these faux leather leggings that I love.
And, finished off with some classic black pumps. You can never go wrong with a black pump, but some booties or flats would also be great options!
You could also add some color with a handbag or necklace.

Look #4 | Little Black Dress
You can easily wear this outfit to the office, a party, an event, or a special occasion.
It’s a beautiful little black dress belted with a fun animal print belt.
I paired it with sexy strappy pumps but you could do a classic pump, pointy toe flats, fitted booties, etc.
In terms of accessories, skies the limit! Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, whatever catches your eye that day.

Look #5 | All White
The last look is the all white look.
I think it’s so luxe, chic, and elegant.
Wearing all one color makes you look much taller and thinner.
These wide leg trousers by Milly really add to that leg-lengthening effect.
They are the most gorgeous white pants I’ve ever tried on and bought and were definitely worth the investment.
I also paired the trench with this plain white collared shirt and white bracelet bag.
