And How To Wear Them
Sexy is a good word to describe the overall theme of spring trends this year. From short shorts to corset tops, this spring will be HOT! Some of these may be harder for women over 40 to wear, but I’ll share some simple ideas and modifications. As with all trends, you should pick and choose the ones you love the most and then aim to give the trends your very own spin…. make them your own.Â
You do NOT have to try ANY of these trends. I’m just want to make sure you have all the resources you need to be your most stylish self! I’m hoping that with this list in mind, you can start thinking about your spring shopping wish list!!
I did a video on the 2020 fashion trends too. You can watch that here.
#1 | Crochet
There is a lot of craftwork going on this year but crochet is the biggest. There’s everything from sweater sets to full-on crocheted dresses, in a lot of colors. In real life (versus the runway), you can wear this intricately detailed fabric with jeans and sandals for a laid back spring look. A crochet swim cover-up would also be a great way to try this trend.
#2 | Scarlet
This red hue is such a gorgeous color on so many people. I love that it’ll be big this spring! Need a dress for an event? Go with this standout, gorgeous color. I absolutely love the red dress in this post. You can also try just a pop of scarlet with your bag or shoes. Some other popular colors for spring 2020… mint green, orange, and pink. Yay, for pink! It’s another one of my favorites.Â
#3 | Hot Pants
If you’ve got killer legs…this one is for you! But, where are you going in these hot pants? I mean, really. Maybe Miami beach?? I can see some hot 20-somethings pulling these off artfully. I say proceed with EXTREME caution with this trend. If you want to modify this trend and try the more wearable approach, look for pretty much any length of shorts this spring from Bermudas, to capris, and super shorty shorts. P.S. if anyone is brave enough to try the hot pants, PLEASE send me a picture. erin@busbeestyle.com. I want to see how you styled them. I’m not that brave.
#4 | Bra Tops
Here is another one of the hot trends for spring that really isn’t that practical or wearable… bra tops. If you want to try this trend, I suggest wearing a jacket over the bra top, buttoning your jacket so the bra just peeps out a little at the top. I would also pair your top and jacket with super high rise pants or jeans to cover more of your midriff. Here’s another trend that I would LOVE to see on YOU. If you are brave enough to rock it, please email me a picture: erin@busbeestyle.com. I might try a thick bandeau style top with a jacket over it or the bra with the buttoned jacket or blazer. We shall see! It all depends if I can get in better shape for spring. I’m working out every single day right now for at least 30 minutes of P.Volve... so I’m hopeful.Â
#5 | Spring Leather
This is my FAVORITE spring fashion trend! I love my leather jackets, pants, and tops. But now they aren’t reserved for fall/winter! I recently bought some leather pieces by a new favorite brand, Nanushka known for its amazing, faux leather pieces. Nanushka had some great runway styles for spring including the middle picture above. See three amazing leather pieces in this post. Look for spring leather in all colors too like blue, purple, green, and cream. They are SO pretty for spring and beyond!
#6 | Tropical Prints
There’s always a couple of standout prints on the runways and this season it’s all about the tropics! In many of the lines, the print is a message about climate change and the need to protect our environment. Perhaps the most infamous tropical print dress of all-time, the J-Lo Versace dress from the year 2000 and the recent iteration pictured in the middle above. And FUN FACT… the original dress was the impotence for Google creating “Google Images” since so many people searched for images of the dress.Â
#7 | 60s & 70s Inspired Prints
This one is super fun and eclectic! These “wallpaper” prints are 60s and 70s inspired. Look for big and bold colors and patterns. If you’re a 70s girl at heart… and love this vibe, you should definitely go for it! I’m not a real print person so I will definitely skip this one.
#8 | Sequins
Pants, dresses, suits, you name it. Sequins are BIG! In my world, they are always big… but they just happen to be more on-trend than normal this spring. Look for wearable sequined pieces for daytime and sequined clothing in fun colors like outfit #1 and #2 above. Check out one of my sexy, sequin dresses in this post.
#9 | Shorts Suits
There’s always a new twist on the suit and this season… the suit is ALL about shorts! If you work in a fashion-forward office, this is a trend you could definitely try…especially with the longer shorts. If you want some short suit inspo… I styled a shorts suit in this post.
Another suiting trend is edgy suits that are deconstructed.
#10 | Corsets
This will be a hard trend to wear. But I love it! I’m a sucker for Victorian anything…and it’s such a bonus that the corset will create a waist. As many of you know, I have a rectangular body shape so I’m always looking for ways to add waist definition. I love the idea of wearing a corset under a jacket or even layering it over a lightweight tee like image #1 above.Â
