Beauty Tips: Green Eyeshadow

Beauty and makeup tips, tutorial, how to create a smokey green eye makeup look to make blue and green eyes pop, featuring YSL couture palette number 8

Beauty Journey

Until I turned 40, my makeup routine was pretty limited.
I would wear basically anything in the brown family on my eyes.
And, some shade of pink on my lips.
Over the past few years, I’ve thrown caution to the wind…
I have branched out a LOT more, to include deep red and burgundy lips,
Along with bold and colorful eye shadows. (I know, I know, what a rebel!)

It IS hard to step out of you makeup comfort zone.
I know it was for me, but once you do…
It opens a whole, fun new world of beauty.

One newly discovered beauty look…a smokey green eye.
This really makes blue, green and hazel eyes pop!

YSL couture palette in #8 greens, creating a smokey green eye for a party look, to make green, blue and hazel eyes stand out

I’m teamed up with Nordstrom to share this beauty look with you…
Featuring the YSL couture palette (above) in #8…

Step 1 | Cover Lid with Highlight Color

After moisturizing, priming, and lining the lid (slightly) with a black liquid liner…
I put the lightest (highlight) shade in the YSL couture palette #8 all over the lid.
(Up to the brow)

Step 2 | Darkest Green in Crease

I put the darkest green shade in the crease to add definition to the eye…
And blended it all the way to my eye socket.

Step 3 | Light Green on Lid

Next, I put a beautiful lighter shade of green all over the lid to the crease…
And blended it into the crease.

Step 4 | Line Eye with Darkest Green

I took the same shade of dark green that I used for my crease, and lined my eye with it.
I lined both the upper and lower lid, even onto the water line on the lower lid.
I winged out the dark green slightly to blend it into the original crease.

Step 5 | Use Bright Green to Line Lower Lid

I used the lightest green in the palette and lined under my eye.
(Be sure to line under the dark green line)

Step 6 | Add Gold To The Corners

The final steps… curl the lashes and add a great mascara!

What Else Did I Use?

nars orgasm blush, YSL palette couture number 8, YSL touche eclait foundation, bobbi brown bronzer in natural, clinique high impact mascara

I went with a more subtle lip, since the eyes are so bold…
I used Mac lip liner in dervish to line and fill the lip.
And, layered Clinique “Fab Pop” over it.

On my cheeks and forehead, I bronzed up using Bobbi Brown bronzer in natural.
This is my ALL TIME favorite bronzer.
And, I added a little Nars blush in “orgasm” on my cheeks.

And, in case you were wondering about foundation
I used the really light, YSL touche Ă©clat foundation so my skin would look fresh, youthful and glowy.
This foundation is awesome if you like light, natural coverage.

  1. Julie Goerke says:

Hi Erin, this look is gorgeous on you! My eyes are more gray blue, but I think I might give this a try. I’m always wearing brown or peachy shades of eye shadow and I need to mix it up! Thanks for the great photos and explanations! Julie

    • Erin Busbee says:

Thanks, Julie! I was like you..always wearing browns and peaches. Now I really LOVE pinks, deep plus, greens, even blues! Give it a whirl and see what you think. You can always wash it off… Erin xo

  2. Love the eyeshadow on you! Yu look amazing! XOXOXO

  3. Ginger Miller says:

Loved YSL palette #8.. I have blue-teal eyes and this would look so good. Especially liked the closeup photography for the eye shadow application. Really impressive!

    • Erin Busbee says:

Thanks, Ginger! I shot everything myself and was quite proud. I appreciate you noticing! Erin xo

  4. Teresa says:

I have blue green eyes and recently used smokey green colors rather than my usual brown and beige but wasn’t sure if I should. I thought it looked pretty but thought it might look dated to others, so thank you for showing me that it is a gorgeous look and now I can wear it with confidence. Would love for you to do a video on what you eat in a typical week. We are both 5’4″ and petite and I would like to know if you have to be as restrictive and careful as I do to keep my weight in ideal range. I want to be healthy and have my clothes fit well, so I have to make plans for choices that keep me in the 1200 calories max per day range. Would enjoy a video on what you typically eat, how often you splurge and on what, and what you absolutely say no to. Thanks, Erin. I enjoy your work on here, Instagram, and You Tube very much.

    • Erin Busbee says:

Maybe when I’m back in fighting shape. Right now, I’m in a rut. Mostly I try to limit major carbs and just be reasonable about indulgences. I think 1200 calories a day is a little extreme. Are you sure that is what you have to do? Maybe exercise more and eat more?

  5. Brenda Hess Steckler says:

Love this green eye shadow look on you and look forward to trying the look.
Really appreciated your talk on sympathy last Friday. I think it is a great idea to step away from the fashion and make up every once in a while. A suggested topic is meditation. I meditate every morning and feel like it has given me peace and calm during stressful days or events.
Really enjoy your blog! Thanks so much!

    • Erin Busbee says:

Oh, Brenda…thank you so much for the sweet words.
It was so hard to publish that video and I appreciate your support.
Meditation is a great topic! I have been thinking a lot about joy and gratitude too…

      Thanks again!!
      Erin xo
