How To Layer Under A Maxi Dress

In the last week, I’ve had an ER visit, two cases of croup, and three all nighters with sick kids.

It’s been a little rough around here at the Busbee household so my apologies for the delay in posting new blogs. BUT, I promise more are coming!

I just shot so many wonderful looks with a talented photographer. I can’t wait to show you guys!

Before tackling fall fashion trends, I think it’s important to talk layering.

Layering allows us to reinvent our summer pieces and make them appropriate for cooler weather.

The other wonderful thing about layering for us 40+ ladies… coverage!  Layering means we can cover up all of our jiggly bits and feel 100% comfortable. Yea!

While it’s common to throw a sweater or lightweight knit OVER a top or T-shirt, it’s uncommon to layer UNDER dresses and tops.

I think layering under pieces can be stylish, elegant and unexpected. It’s also a way for you to make a look your own.

Here is ONE layering idea:

Wear a white button down shirt UNDER your maxi dress!

STYLING NOTES:

Yes, it’s okay to wear socks with boots/booties circa 1988.  It’s going to get progressively more popular … so scrunch away!

I detest ironing, so I bought a non-iron shirt from Banana Republic. It comes out of the wash with a crisp collar. The body and arms are a bit wrinkly, but I don’t mind as I generally use it for layering anyway. I also like white button downs from Ann Taylor.
