What Type of Mom Are You?
There are more varieties of moms than there are stars in the sky. So, what kind of mom are you, or what makes YOUR mom special? Endless patience and a gentle soul? Are you an active and outdoorsy mom soaking up the great outdoors at every turn? Or are you more likely to enjoy a hot bath and a good book? Maybe you’re a devoted fur mom? No matter what type of mom you are, we have some awesome Mother’s Day gift ideas in this post….for your favorite mom OR for yourself!
Best Mother’s Day Gifts
This is my mom, Peggy, above with all of her grandkids and one great-grandchild. This photo is a few years old now, but it makes me so happy. I’ve lived away from my family since I was 25 years old. I miss them all the time, especially when we get together and they shower Gage and Elizabeth with love. I am reminded that no one loves your kids like your family, and there is nothing quite like your kids hanging out with their cousins.
Every Mother’s Day for more than a decade I’ve mailed my mom flowers. Beautiful flowers not only brighten a room, they deliver joy. And, hopefully, remind my mom that I’m thinking of her. I appreciate her. And, I think she’s VERY special! I think flowers are one of the best Mother’s Day gifts for those of you who have moms in faraway places. I also love to give photo books and framed photos. (More gift ideas directly below).
Being an Older Mom Versus Younger Mom
Where are my AMA moms?? For those that don’t know, AMA stands for “advanced maternal age”. Isn’t that an awful title, by the way? I had Gage at 35 and Elizabeth at 38… so I am considered an older mom. For me (and everyone is different) as an older mom, I feel more equipped to handle the daily challenges that children present. I have a LOT of life experience to draw from, which helps a great deal. I think I’m more patient and settled than I would have been in my 20s. Having an older husband helps even more since he has even more life experience to share with all of us.
It’s also REALLY nice that we are both more settled in our careers and have the ability to create a lifestyle that we all love. I have often dreamed of giving my kids the childhood I never had but always wanted. And, I can sit back now and appreciate the fact that we are doing exactly that. It’s such an emotional realization.

Erin,
Your post was so thoughtfully written. Thank you for including pet moms in your article For those of us who were not able to have children, Mother’s Day can be a sad and painful day.You totallly took the dread out of it for me. Thank you for your sweet and kind heart!! Your Mother’s Day gift selection is fantastic!!! I appreciate how creative it is and also keeping those of us in mind with a much lower income to work with. I actually had considered stopping my subscription because I felt our lifestyles and the affordability of the clothes, were just way to far apart. Instead after reading this article I have a request for you. I am sure there are many women like myself who have to shop for almost everything on Temu, Shein and Amazon clearance. We could so use your education and style to accommodate our lifestyles. I hope you will check out and try a series using these sites. It may be a challenge and fun idea for you to see how low you can get your basic wardrobe pieces and add in some seasonal pieces. Thank you again and I hope you have a blessed Mothers Day with your sweet family!!
Thanks so much for your sweet note, Dorinda! I’m so glad that you are here and finding that my messages resonate with you. While we don’t offer recommendations on those specific sites since many items are produced unethically, we do work and will continue to work hard to provide quality items for less as much as possible. It’s important to me that we share items for everyone here. Wishing you a beautiful week ahead! ~Erin xo
Erin, how lovely you and your family all look! I like seeing all the resemblances too.
I had my daughter at age 30 and was told I was “geriatric”, can you imagine?
She is my best accomplishment and a wonderful human being.
Love these gift ideas too. Very thoughtful and of high quality, just like all your suggestions.
Happy Mother’s Day to you, your mom, and all the ladies who form this exceptional community.
I’m sure you did not feel “geriatric”, as I did not and was older with both of mine! They keep us young! Thanks so much for reading this one… so glad you enjoyed it! Happy Mother’s Day to you, Liz! ~Erin xo
After 6 years of fertility treatments, loss, and heartbreak we were finally blessed with our miracle baby Gracie. I was 38 when she was born a preemie who needed feeding every 2 hours. At the time I wished I had the stamina of my 20s. But as an “AMA” I was fortunate to have time to have adventures and to complete all my career struggles before becoming a mom. And now that I’m settled in my career, I completely agree with you Erin, I feel so blessed to be able to provide my daughter with comforts I always dreamed of as a child. But most of all I just feel incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to be a mom. And to be the mom such an incredible young lady, is just icing on the cake.
Thank you for sharing your story with us, Ana… What an amazing, brave, and perseverant woman you are! ~Erin xo
I am in total agreement about being an older mom, and the advantages you listed! I had my first 2 by the time I was 21 and my last when I was 35. I’m team older mom all the way!
I recently became a mom at 37 (“advanced maternal age” LOL) to an 18 and 20-year-old when I married their father. It still warms my heart when they call me “mom” and I love being one, especially with the wisdom and experience of my “advanced” age. 🙂
Such wonderful gift ideas. Happy Mother’s Day to you!
LOVE that story. Thanks for sharing that with me, Andrea! xo
