Mother’s Day Dresses
What do you typically do for Mother’s Day? I feel like when the kids were younger, we did brunches and fancier things like that. OR sometimes we spent the day on a field somewhere for a lacrosse tournament. Whatever your plans, I wanted to make sure YOU have the perfect dress to celebrate this VERY important occasion! Maybe you have traditional Mother’s Day celebration plans, or you just want to treat yourself to something special…Sometimes you buy the dress FIRST and then create the special occasion later ? (Remember to watch this video if you’re thinking that it’s not important to dress up.)
Whether you’re having a Mother’s Day brunch, you’re headed to church, going out for a nice dinner, or spending an afternoon with the girls, no doubt you’ll love one of the dresses (or jumpsuits!) below. I found pieces that are chic, elegant, and most importantly versatile…so you can wear them for many other occasions too. And just to make sure there’s something for every budget, I’m sharing some affordable options for each look as well.
If you’re interested, I shared the best Mother’s Day gifts here. AND if you’re looking for more dresses, you’ll find stunning maxi dresses here and the prettiest wedding guest dresses here.

Alexis Jaden Belted Dress
What…. this old thing? 😉 I mean… how gorgeous is this Alexis dress? I love the beautiful, and trendy bubblegum pink color for spring and summer. It just lights me up! But it’s a stunner for SO many other reasons. For starters, I absolutely love the cinched, belted waist detail (talk about flattering!). And then there’s the A-line midi length, short sleeves, and the pretty v-neckline. It’s such a feminine dress with all that flowy movement. It looks beautiful styled with platform heels or wedges for a dressy look. OR flats or sandals for a casual dinner or get-together.

Maje Raudrey Stripe Shirtdress
This cotton-blend shirtdress by Maje has the coolest modern details. The stripes and patch pockets are definitely more menswear-inspired. But then the pleated flounce skirt and gold buttons give off a feminine feel too. I also really appreciate a dress with long sleeves. You can always roll them up if you run warm. I’d wear this dress with wedges, sandals, or even sneakers for a really casual look. This is one of those pieces you’ll have in your closet for years to come!

Staud Cotton Poplin A-Line Dress & Maje Striped Shirt
This next look is for all you mom’s that are ready for spring/summer but the temperature states otherwise…OR you just prefer a bit more coverage on your arms. I paired this pretty pink A-line dress by Staud with a striped Maje button-down underneath. Both of these pieces look beautiful styled on their own, but together they are a little unexpected! The top has voluminous sleeves which is a nice contrast to the fitted bodice of the dress. The pretty colors and pleated details are very feminine, flirty, and fun! If pink isn’t your favorite, the dress comes in 6 other colors including black, white, and the most gorgeous amethyst color.
Maje Paicy Cargo Jumpsuit
Ok, so…clearly this is not a dress, but I loved this Maje cargo jumpsuit so much that I wanted to include it in this roundup. A jumpsuit offers all the same one-and-done, easy styling as a dress BUT with a bit more coverage. I know not everyone loves a jumpsuit, but the buttons and smocked waist make this one really easy to get in and out of. (Because once you get to the restroom it’s just you and your jumpsuit choices!) And, the super soft fabric makes you feel like you’re wearing your comfiest pj’s. Who doesn’t want to feel like they’re wearing pajamas on Mother’s Day? You can unbutton a few of the buttons and wear a pretty cami or bralette underneath like I did or just keep it all buttoned up. If you’ve been looking for a way to try the hot cargo trend, the side leg pockets hit low enough on the leg as not to accentuate or add bulk to your thighs. This would be so chic and stylish for Mother’s Day brunch or dinner and would also be a great weekend look with some booties or sneakers, and a denim jacket.
In case you’re looking for spring/summer sandals and shoes, in this post I share all my recent must-haves.

Julie Cutaway Maxi Dress
I wore this lightweight cutout dress out to dinner during my recent trip to Africa (more on that soon!) and it was a perfect vacation dress. But it would also be beautiful for your Mother’s Day get-together. While the cutouts offer a little sex appeal, the longer hem and sleeve length also keep you covered up and I really appreciate that balance! There is flattering smocking at the bodice to help you feel secure and a deep V in both the front and back. I also love the beautiful, rich brown color.
If you love this pretty, rich brown too, this post features 2 more gorgeous dresses in the same color (and 2 affordable options as well)!

Simkhai Laurel Cotton Poplin Maxi Dress
This is not your typical Mother’s Day dress! This dress by Jonathan Simkhai was another dress I brought with me to Africa and it’s for those moms that want to turn up the sexy a bit. It’s made from a beautiful cotton poplin so it didn’t wrinkle too badly in my duffle (yes, very minimal luggage on this trip!). It has a tiered elastic bodice and a tiered skirt with a ruffled hem so it’s uber-feminine. You could easily wear this dress with slide sandals or heels. I wasn’t sure how dressy I’d want to be on our trip, so I liked that versatility element. This dress would probably not be ideal for large busted ladies because you really can’t wear a bra with it. Throw a jacket or blazer over your shoulders for a bit more coverage.
Simkhai Plunge Jumpsuit
Here is yet another jumpsuit option…and another not-so-typical option as well. This look is definitely more on the sexy side, but still very classy and sophisticated. Moms can of course be sexy too! This Simkhai cut-out jumpsuit has a side zip for easy on/off, a pleated bodice, and a halter neck tie. It also has pockets (yay!) wide legs, and a 34” inseam…which ended up being a little too long for me (I’m 5’4”). But for such a special piece, I don’t mind visiting my tailor! This would be beautiful for a nice Mother’s Day dinner out, Mother’s Day date night, a wedding, or even a more formal occasion. If you need to cover up for your event or you’re worried about showing too much skin, consider draping a blazer over your shoulders.
Tory Burch Striped Long Dress
If you’re looking for a super versatile dress you can wear for Mother’s Day AND all spring/summer, this black and white striped Tory Burch maxi dress is a super chic and incredibly comfortable option! It has a tiered skirt, ruffle details, and an elastic band at the top so it actually stays put. I love that you could wear this with a denim jacket and sandals for a casual lunch or with heels and a blazer for dinner. I wore this dress while in Paris where it was still pretty chilly, but I can’t wait to style it for warmer weather too!

Waimari Torrente Dress & Waimari Pueblito Lace Mini Dress
These next 2 dresses are both by Waimari. I brought them with me when Chris and I went to Moab, UT to celebrate our anniversary. I wanted lightweight, cool dresses for the warmer weather. Either of these would also be perfect for Mother’s Day brunch or your next warm-weather vacation. Both are made of the most beautiful white eyelet fabric and have flattering v-necklines. The midi-length dress has short puff sleeves and thick smocking at the waist that really cinches and flatters! The shorter dress has a gorgeous, scalloped hem and ¾ length sleeves with elastic cuffs for a bit more coverage. You can’t go wrong with either and you’re likely to get a ton of use (not to mention compliments!) out of both.

ME+EM Cutout Maxi Dress & Sea Silk Midi Dress
Next up are two gorgeous white and blue printed dresses that would be beautiful for Mother’s Day! The first dress by Me+Em has a v-neckline and cutouts at the waist. If you need a bit more coverage, you can throw on a white blazer or jacket. I love the length and flow of this dress…it would also be beautiful for a spring wedding! The second dress by Sea is similar because of the ruffled sleeves and cutout, but this cutout is much smaller and right under the bust. It’s also 100% silk so it’s very lightweight and will keep you cool. This is the more modest option of the two, but you can still make adjustments by adding a third layer if you need to. I styled it with booties but I’d also wear it with wedges, strappy heels, pumps, or flat sandals for Mother’s Day…if it’s warm enough!
What is the best part about being a mom for you? (And that includes fur baby moms, aunties, and grandmoms). For me, it’s surreal and wonderful to be able to shape these beautiful, young minds, and watch them grow and develop. I think motherhood also gives me a deeper sense of purpose and legacy.
