Hello Sunshine
Pantone selected TWO colors of the year for 2021, Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Grey. I guess someone is on to the fact that after an unprecedented year, we all need some brightness in our lives. Yellow represents joy, positivity, and optimism. Something we can all use in 2021! Grey continues to be a HUGE trend from paint, to flooring, to furniture. Since grey is a neutral, it will always have a place in interior design. However, the days of grey on grey on grey are ending if you listen to the design experts! I think it’s the combination of these two Pantone colors, and how the yellow and grey shades complement one other that put a fresh spin on grey! Whether you choose to follow the trends or not, finding a way to warm up your home may be just what your space needs. Here are some simple suggestions for introducing 2021 design trends into your home!
#1 | Pull Up a Chair
First, let’s look at the not so subtle, ways to introduce Illuminating Yellow into your home. A yellow accent chair would work well with grey, white, black, brown, blue, and green. Yellow is pretty universal and easy to incorporate into most existing color schemes. I scoured the Internet for chairs with the highest ratings and discovered several in gorgeous shades of yellow to share with you. Not surprisingly, some were already out of stock!
2021 Interior Design trends also highlight curves in furniture such as the curved arms of a chair or couch, and rounded cushion corners. I did find chairs with very rounded features like this one and some with just a nod to rounded characteristics like this Hayden ottoman from Arhaus (on-sale!). It makes a great statement piece on its own or paired with its matching chair.
#2 | Home Accents
If a yellow chair is too much of a color commitment for you, try an accent piece like a yellow lamp, artwork, or throw pillows. Even one of these more subtle changes will make your space feel fresh. This beautiful, handcrafted, ceramic lamp from Crate & Barrel works well on an end table or nightstand. While art is certainly subjective, this piece is so rich, and I love its versatility as it can be hung horizontally or vertically. It’s neutral, yet a showstopper with a stunning palette of yellows and greys. This striped pillow cover is perfect for a whiskey-colored leather couch or chair.
#3 | Go For The Gold
If yellow isn’t your thing, think about adding tones of gold or brass to your space to achieve that same “happy” vibe. This can be achieved with a brass wall-hanging, decorative mirror, or even drawer pulls. I’m so ready to update my kitchen hardware and these satin brass pulls with the rounded corners have definitely caught my eye.
#4 | Keep It Natural
Natural elements like wood, wicker, and rattan are also among the trendsetting décor updates for 2021. I own this wooden bowl and this dough bowl from Target. Fill with lemons and set it on your kitchen counter or island. You could also pick up yellow floral stems and add them to a wooden or glass vase. Such a happy little accent!
Whatever your color scheme or style, make your home a warm and comforting sanctuary. Be bold and decorate with thought and conviction! Are you loving any of the 2021 interior design trends like peel-and-stick wallpaper or “Grandmillennial” (think granny chic)? If so, how are you incorporating these trends into your home? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments!
