3 Cool Trench Coats For the Woman Who Doesn’t Need A Traditional Trench

Unique Trench Coats

A trench coat is a classic piece that every woman should have in her closet. It’s iconic, chic, sophisticated, and SO versatile. If you don’t already have a classic trench coat, I share a bunch of beautiful options in this post. But today, I’m focusing on not-so-basic trench coats. If you already have your classic trench coat covered, you might want to add one of these beautiful pieces to your outerwear collection! They all have interesting twists that I know you’ll love…

By the way, if you’re considering investing in the iconic Burberry trench coat, I did an entire review of it here that you should read first.

Trench Jacket

I’m a big fan of coats and jackets…but trenches have never been my favorite to wear. Mostly because I’d rarely find one that felt like my style. But as soon as I saw this trench jacket, I knew I had to try it! I love that you get the look of a trench coat without the added length with this cropped Acne Studios trench jacket! If you live in Seattle or somewhere where you truly need the functionality of a trench coat, this might not be the best option. But it’s such a cool piece! I also love the belted waist and oversized collar that makes it a little more dramatic. I’m wearing it with a white ruffled button-down shirt, some straight-leg jeans, and black platform booties. Without the trench, this is a great, basic look…but with the jacket, it’s completely elevated!

Deconstructed Trench Coat

How cool is this deconstructed trench-style coat?? From the back, it looks like a normal coat…but the front has a cutout waist that’s so unique and chic! You can see that the model (when you click on the link) has the bottom half of the trench open, but I buttoned up and tied the waist belt. I love the oversized collar, padded shoulders, versatile color, double-breasted front closure, and overall fit and structure of this coat. I styled it with the same white button-down, jeans, and booties, but you can throw it on over a jeans and tee, or pretty much any outfit, for an effortlessly cool look.

Pleated Trench Coat

Do you remember this Sandro trench coat from 2 years ago? I bought it while we were living in Spain and still wear it all. the. time. It is simply exquisite! It’s flattering, feels amazing, and has gorgeous, feminine, and elevated touches that really make it a standout piece. And I love the drama of the pleats! You can throw this on over a loungewear set to pick up the kids from school or run a quick errand, wear it over a dress for lunch or dinner, or with jeans, tee, and sneakers for an elevated casual look. It’s super versatile and the most “traditional” of these three options…but still oh so chic!
