Flattering Affordable Denim Shorts
One of Erin’s most worn wardrobe workhorses in the spring and summer is a pair of denim shorts. Denim shorts are SO versatile, you can style them in a bunch of different ways. A chunky sweater and sneakers, a pretty top and sandals….or you can even dress them up with an elevated blouse and sky-high wedges. But there are some really specific tips for finding a pair that not only fits and flatters your body but also feels age appropriate. That is, we want to keep all the parts tucked in BUT still look stylish and on-trend. Today’s For Less Friday look will introduce you to 2 great pairs of denim shorts at varied price points AND a top and sandals both under $100 to complete your look!
For ALL of Erin’s tips for feeling confident wearing shorts over 40, this post is a must-read.

Denim Shorts for $64
The Moussy Vintage denim shorts Erin is wearing on the left are high rise, 100% cotton, have a 3” inseam and some distressing throughout. Our affordable denim shorts by Lovers + Friends has all the same style elements! The high-rise will keep you tucked in and the 3” inseam is ideal for women 5’7” and under. You might want to consider a longer inseam if you are taller. Erin’s tips for finding age-appropriate denim shorts include sizing up one size and finding a pair with both a high rise and wider vs. narrow leg openings. The larger opening will actually make your legs look leaner! Erin shares more thoughts on wearing denim shorts AND how to find the perfect pair here.
Crochet Trim Blouse Under $100
When the weather gets warm, we often gravitate toward t-shirts and tanks, right? But a lightweight top with ¾ or long sleeves is really nice to have when you want a bit more coverage. This top by Lucky Brand has pretty crochet details on the sleeves (but you can still wear a normal bra, yay!) and a flattering split v-neck with ruffle detail. Which is super similar to the eyelet Velvet blouse Erin is wearing on the left. Both have a relaxed fit and we love the elastic waist on the Lucky Brand top for a little added waist definition. There’s also elastic at the sleeves so you can easily push them up. There was no shortage of similar tops with eyelet details…even one as low as $18 so here are some additional options to shop.
Madewell Slides Under $100
Erin is wearing a cushy pair of Madewell slides that she recently purchased for her spring travels. They’re versatile, extremely comfortable, and easy to pop on before running out the door. Our for less option is also by Madewell with pretty much an identical look, they just have a different name. Both have the double strap, a lug sole that is on-trend, and a 1” platform. The wider strap has a stretchy panel on the side so you get that perfect fit! The neutral color is versatile enough to wear with all your spring and summer outfits.
