Women’s Vest Trend
By now you’ve probably seen just how popular these 2 trends have become: Vests and Cargo. Both have entered the fashion world in a major way, and it appears they’re here to stay! Worn separately, either trend is stylish and versatile, but worn together these pieces are impactful and just…SO cool. What we love most is how wearable these pieces are for women over 40 who really want to up their style game!
You can see more of Erin’s matching vest and cargo pants set here along with some other trends to watch for women over 40!

Vest & Cargo Pants Outfit
The vest and cargo pants set Erin is wearing is by Ramy Brook. The vest is fitted, has an adjustable buckle in the back, and the prettiest gold buttons. The cargo pants have side pockets and a wide leg (also very on-trend). They have a 33” inseam so Erin’s wearing her highest platform sandals. Ok…platforms…that makes trend #4, but who’s counting? ? Yes, a matching set takes all the guesswork out of putting this combo together, but let’s not overthink it. We can recreate a similar look with separates and….for less!
Women’s Affordable Vest
On the right side of the graphic above, you’ll see a black vest from Express. It has bra-friendly straps if you want to wear it on its own, and buttons down the front. The reason we chose THIS particular vest…(and this is key!) is the upside-down V at the hem. That seemingly irrelevant V is the key to a less boxy and more modern vest. Combined with the V-neckline, it’s a flattering V one-two punch! If you are worried about it being too fitted, you can always wear a tee, cami, tank, or blouse underneath and leave a few of the buttons undone. Here are a few vests in different fabrics and styles if black isn’t your favorite.
Affordable Cargo Pants
The utility pants on the right are also from Express. Similar to the luxe version, they too have a wide leg, relaxed fit, and side pockets. They come with the belt pictured but you could always remove it or replace it with one of your own. And, they also come in Regular, Short, and Long lengths (yay!) and 2 other neutral colors, Black and Sandshell. How chic would the black vest and pants combo be?
Versatility Matters!
Let’s talk about the many ways you can style this outfit. The vest could be office appropriate with a white button-down underneath or worn with a blazer over it for a classic 3-piece suiting look paired with a pencil skirt or trousers. But, you can also wear it with your favorite jeans or shorts. You can also wear it as is with the coordinating cargo pants, platform sandals, pumps, or (our favorite!) a cool pair of platform sneakers! The pants can be worn with a tank or t-shirt now, and a lightweight sweater or denim jacket as the weather cools. These pieces are incredibly versatile!

Love the vest trend-my first time was mid 70s with the Diane Keaton/Annie Hall look. Then again in the late 80’s/90’s. At 63 I am rocking it again today beige linen vest with white tank,a pair of white linen shorts, and Chanel inspired ballet flats. Plan to pick up a black one for fall and maybe even a tweed or herringbone for a little menswear kick with trousers or jeans
LOVE to hear how you’re enjoying this trend, Teresa! Isn’t it so exciting when the trends we love make their way back around?? It’s so much fun to wear them again in a slightly new way. Thanks so much for sharing! ~Erin xo
