Holiday Work Party Outfits
The first thing to think about when deciding on your perfect holiday party outfit is… the dress code! It could be anything from a casual ugly sweater party to a super formal black-tie event. This can be a bit tricky for events, especially if it isn’t specified on the invitation, but let’s keep it simple. What is the office dress code for your typical day at work? This can give you a sense of how fancy everyone in attendance will be for your work party. The venue can also give you a good idea here as well. If you know your party is on the formal side, check out this post next for some inspiration and tips specific to semi-formal attire.
Once you’ve got the dress code dialed in… think about what colors you love to wear. Do you prefer a rich burgundy, bright cherry red, deep emerald green, ivory or white, navy, chic, classic black, or warm chocolate brown? And then don’t forget the sequins! This is the perfect time to shine (literally!). Sequins are perfect for the holidays!
One last factor, possibly the most important one, is to consider your own personal style and body shape. It is always important to dress for you and in a way that you feel your best, and this is especially true for your work parties! Make sure that you feel good, comfortable, and confident in your outfit to ensure that you truly enjoy this special occasion.
What To Wear For A Holiday Work Party
#1 | Stunning Green Sequin Top
This first look is the perfect mix of glam and sophistication for your holiday work party! This gorgeous green sequin top can easily be dressed up or down. You can pair it with a sleek black skirt or trousers for an elegant evening, or wide-leg jeans for a more casual option. Just don’t forget to add some festive jewelry and a sparkly clutch to complete your holiday party look. This versatile top is sure to turn heads at the office party.
#2 | Sleeveless Sequin Top With Black Jeans
If you love to go all-out with the sparkle and shine for the holidays (we sure do!), this sleeveless top by Endless Rose is another wonderful option for your office holiday party. It’s really cool, modern, and a little bit edgy. The sleeves have structured shoulder pads that add some extra drama. Erin is wearing the Ivory color, but we also love the Black and Silver options as well. Erin shared that it’s super comfortable and not itchy at all! She styled the top with a pair of Veronica Beard black wide-leg jeans that are so flattering, and a pair of classic black booties by Schutz. This top would look really great with a silk maxi skirt or black wide-leg trousers too. It runs true to size.
#3 | Sequin Top and Silk Maxi Skirt
Speaking of a silk maxi…this is the same sleeveless sequin top from the previous look, paired with a beautiful washable silk skirt for a more elevated option. It’s a bit dressier and perfect for your evening parties. You’ll feel elegant and ready for the office holiday party in this gorgeous outfit. Add fun jewelry and a light-colored heel or bootie for a chic, holiday-ready, monochrome look. If you run cold, throw on this gorgeous festive, velvet blazer to finish off the look.
#4 | Velvet Top With Black Pants
Velvet is so luxurious and absolutely perfect for the holidays. This all-black look is chic and slimming, yet very comfortable. You’ll be super confident for your office party! You can keep it simple or add a touch of glam with a pair of sparkly pumps and a matching handbag. You could also add a belt with crystal buckle details and a gorgeous pair of stand-out earrings. Erin is wearing a ruched black velvet top by Veronica Beard which is no longer available, but we’ve linked some other velvet options below that you’ll love!
#5 | Burgundy Embellished Top With Black Pants
Burgundy is a color that has been on-trend for so long that it’s basically considered a neutral…and we really love it for the holidays! This top by ASTR The Label is a gorgeous deep burgundy color that looks amazing on so many skin tones. It has strong shoulders, subtle rhinestones all over, and a comfortable elastic waist. It’s super forgiving in the tummy area if that’s a concern for you. A lot of sparkly, sequin tops can be scratchy and unpleasant to wear, but this top is really lovely and comfortable. It’s selling out fast, so if you don’t see it available in your size (it runs true to size), it also comes in a beautiful white color. We’re also sharing another burgundy option below!
Erin styled the ASTR The Label top with a pair of dark wash wide-leg jeans by Favorite Daughter and a chic pair of burgundy slingback pumps. For your more casual work party, keep the outfit the same. For a more elegant look, simply swap out the denim for a pair of black trousers instead!
#6 | Silky Tie Neck Blouse And Skirt
This silk top is GOR….geous! It comes in 7 beautiful colors but the burgundy is so on-trend and perfect for the holidays. If you want to tuck a top into a silk skirt, you’ll want something like this. Since both the skirt and blouse fabrics are thin, you won’t get any lumps and bumps. (Pro Tip: A silk skirt like this one can sometimes show every imperfection so Erin will just throw on a shapewear skirt underneath to keep everything nice and smooth. You can even tuck your silky top INTO your shapewear to really guarantee no extra bulk around the middle!) To make this outfit even more glamorous for the holidays, swap out the sock booties for a pair of embellished pumps and add a chic clutch!
#7 | Burgundy Sweater With Black Pants
Deep burgundy is one of the first colors that comes to mind when planning a holiday outfit. And a sweater like this chic turtleneck is so easy to dress up or down for your work party, plus, you’ll be able to wear it again and again all season long! The sweater that Erin is wearing above is no longer available, but we’ve found some great similar styles to link below. Pair your sweater with black pants or a black cashmere skirt for a dressier look, add your sparkly accessories, and you’re set!
#8 | Tailored Blazer And Silk Blouse
Maybe your office is pretty casual, and your work party is in the middle of the workday. You want to feel comfortable and put-together, of course, but add just a touch of that holiday charm. A great way to do that is with a chic, silk top in a festive color like this gorgeous green. This is the same top we featured above with the silk midi skirt (also available in 6 more colors). But in this look, Erin layered it with a tailored blazer to add some structure and paired it with dark wash jeans to keep it casual.
You can always swap the jeans out for trousers if you need your look to be a step closer to business formal. For even more ideas on dressing up your jeans for a holiday party, check out this post next! And of course, don’t forget your fun, festive accessories, even though it’s a day at the office!
#9 | Cozy Sweater And Silk Skirt
This Free People sweater that Erin picked up in the Nordstrom Sale has made its way into so many different outfit combinations this season. And, we don’t see that stopping anytime soon! It’s on the slightly more casual side but pairing it with a silk skirt really helps it to feel festive and classy – perfect for a holiday work party!
#10 | Black Skirt & Top
For our final office holiday party outfit, we’re sharing a chic, all-black pleated skirt and silk top combo. Paired together, these pieces look like a dress. But since they’re separates, you’ll get a ton of use out of them for work and the weekends. Adding in the textured tights, belt, and cool boots elevates the look. You can also wear a pair of sparkly earrings and a festive clutch to dress it up a bit more! This skirt and top are both lightweight, breathable, and comfortable. These pieces are perfect for your party and you’ll love wearing them long after the holidays!
Whatever you decide to wear to your holiday work party, just remember…simple, sparkly accessories can really add the festive touch you may be missing! No matter what you wear, remember to enjoy the season and the memories you’re creating with your colleagues!

Would love your take on the “elegant casual” a river cruise recommends. Going on a Christmas market river cruise on the Danube next month. What to wear for dinner on the ship?
Hi Kate! That will be so special… I immediately think of a black skirt and sequin top for your dinner outfit. You can glean inspiration from outfits 3, 6, and 10 from this post. Have a wonderful time on your Christmas river cruise! ~Team Busbee
