What You Need For The Best Workout!
Two things that help motivate me to work out are… 1) results (obvs) and 2) cute activewear!
I rounded up some SUPER cute activewear that is very affordable below. I also wanted to share a bit more about the workout I am loving lately. Keep scrolling to read all about p.volve.
I haven’t run a ton this year, but if you are a regular reader you’ll recall I ran the NYC marathon last year. You can read all about that journey here. You don’t have to be a hardcore runner to appreciate a great pair of running shorts. For me, running shorts must be comfortable, have a reasonable hemline (I can’t do scandalously short anymore) and, of course, be stylish and cute!
The shorts I’m wearing above are by Avia… an affordable activewear line available at Walmart. This line is full of cute pieces. I LOVE the color of these shorts and the cool racing stripe detail. But, the best feature…? They have a built-in compression base layer, which will minimize chaffing AND keep you covered and secure. These shorts have a 5″ inseam. They come in 4 other colors and range in price between $1 – $10 dollars. I had to double-check the $1 price tag. Seriously, $1 dollar?? Yes.

The shorts have matching pants! I am all in for a set these days. These joggers, by Athletic Works, come in the same shade of Begonia Pink with the modern racing stripe down the sides. If you want something more subtle, they also come in black and gray. I buried the lead here. These pants are ONLY $11.50!!
Both the cute tank and sports bra are by Athletic Works as well. The tank actually comes in a 2 pack and is only $15! With the 2 pack, you’ll get this pink tank AND a blue tank. I love that the straps are thinner toward the top to keep me cool while I work out. And the open back is a nice touch…the perfect way to show off a cool strappy sports bra. The bra I’m wearing offers plenty of coverage… it is comfortable… has moisture-wicking fabric… and removable cups for easy maintenance. You can find more of my affordable activewear favorites below. And keep scrolling to learn more about P.volve…the new workout I’m loving!
Over the past several years, I’ve tried a bunch of workouts including: barre, strength-training, marathon-training, intense hiking as well as online workouts like the popular Bikini Body Guide (BBG) by Kayla Itsines and Tracy Anderson. Even though I really like all of those, I wanted to try something new. Someone recommended P.volve and I decided to give it a whirl. Here’s the scoop: the workouts range from 15 to 60 minutes, there is minimal equipment, and… Victoria Secret models swear by these workouts! Although as my friend, Alyssa, hilariously pointed out, these girls started out as Victoria’s Secret models. I know from first-hand experience covering the VS Fashion Show for CBS, they are not mortal. 😉
Anyway, this workout appeals to me because it focuses on elongating your muscles and building strength, without adding bulk. I really wanted to get back to a more “barre-like” workout that is gentler on my joints and body. And, for sure this is gentle. I think you can do this at any age and it would be ideal if you have any kind of recent injury or joint issues.
If you want to try it, download the free app. You can also sign up and get the first 15 days free. Then it’s $30 for the monthly plan, $150 for the six-month plan, and $300 for the yearly plan. You can get access to over 150 workouts.
I’ll share a before and after pictures soon. Here’s the headline so far: It’s doable, enjoyable and I am seeing results (most notably, my bum is more lifted). But, it isn’t moving the needle with my recent menopausal weight gain… so I am adding in some cardio by walking, jogging, and hiking.
