A small wardrobe refresh might be all you need to get you back on track and feeling great about your style. You’ll want pieces you’ll reach for again and again, that excite you, and that you feel fabulous wearing. But you also want versatile staples that will breathe some new life into the wardrobe you already have. Looking for a simple way to break free from repetitive outfits and elevate your style? Add these three key pieces to your wardrobe: one elevated basic, one versatile staple, and one statement piece. That’s it! Let’s break it down…

#1) Elevated Basic

Tailored Jacket or Blazer

One of the easiest ways to add some interest to a basic outfit is to add an elegant, tailored third layer. Like a fitted blazer or jacket that nips in at the waist. It adds the perfect amount of definition to flatter your shape and add confidence. The strategic button placement on both pieces above helps create a slimming effect through the waist. It doesn’t get much easier than having that go-to piece you can throw on with jeans and a sweater or t-shirt. An elevated basic instantly takes your outfit from mediocre to ah-mazing. And with practically zero effort at all!

On the left, Erin’s wearing a Ponte knit jacket by Generation Love that’s stretchy, comfortable and incredibly chic. On the right, a budget-friendly Captain’s blazer from Quince made from a comfy scuba fabric that has a flattering cutaway silhouette.

#2) Versatile Staple

Modern Jeans

Jeans are an incredibly versatile wardrobe staple. You can dress them up or down, wear them with heels or sneakers. And having the right pair of jeans that fits and flatters your body is a game-changer. When it comes to flattering jeans that will be your new go-to…try a high-waisted pair with a straight, wide, or flare leg. This is the most universally flattering fit on most body shapes. So, if you’re holding onto those “someday” jeans that just don’t quite fit the way you’d like, this just might be your sign to grab a pair you feel great about wearing now. Always dress and love the body you have right now.

Above on the left, Erin’s wearing a pair of L’Agence Scottie jeans. She says they might just be the most comfortable jeans she’s ever put on her body. On the right, you see how slimming and elongating the AG Farrah jeans are? They make her legs look a mile long! Both of these jeans are among Erin’s 3 favorites of all-time. You can read more about them here.

STYLE TIP: To save yourself time and to cut down on returns, make sure you check out the inseam length and rise in the online product description. For reference, Erin is 5’4” and typically wears between a 28”-32” inseam…depending on whether she wants a cropped fit or plans to wear her jeans with heels. A high-waisted pair of jeans typically has a rise of at least 10”.

#3) Unexpected Classic

Tailored Vest

A vest may not be something you automatically think of as a wardrobe staple, but they are surprisingly versatile and flattering without being overly trendy. Similar to a tailored jacket or blazer, a tailored vest adds waist definition and is very “in” style right now.

The Aritzia black vest that Erin’s wearing above is both sophisticated and a little sexy while still very stylish and functional. You can wear a vest on its own with jeans, skirts, or trousers (for more of a suit effect) like Erin is wearing above on the left. But you can also layer your vest over a blouse or tee or under a blazer or jacket depending on the season. Adding a vest to your wardrobe is a simple way to look put-together and polished. It adds that little extra wow factor that shows you are stylish and contemporary! For Erin, the vest has been an unexpected hit that she reaches for again and again.
