The 3 Handbags All Women MUST Own

I harp on the wardrobe basics ALL. THE. TIME. Your wardrobe basics are what build the foundation of your entire wardrobe and make it easier to get dressed every day. And having your go-to basic handbags are just as important as the clothing…but often overlooked!

You want to find high-quality pieces that will stand the test of time. That doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune. But it does mean you’ll need to do a thorough search to find exactly what you love. If you don’t have your basics checklist, make sure you subscribe to my newsletter here to get those!

In case you’ve missed it, I’m designing a handbag! I’m SO excited about this project and it’s been really fun to bring you all along for the design process. You can find more information about the bag and the design process here and here.

#1 | Black Or Metallic Clutch (Day To Night)

A handbag can really show your personality, so the style of this clutch is up to you. There are tons of options out there, like foldover clutches or minaudiere box clutches.  When you’re looking, search for something sleek and minimal so it will go with more in your closet. I suggest metallic and/or black so that it’s more versatile but feel free to go with another neutral that complements the rest of your basics. It can be gray, taupe, brown, beige, or any other neutral. Some clutches even come with detachable shoulder chains so they double as evening crossbody bags. This “cloud” clutch is one of the latest shapes and an “It” bag at the moment.

My clutch above is actually a belt bag/ clutch hybrid. I love a great 2-in-1!! In addition to designing a handbag, I’m also creating a wallet clutch multi-functional bag. Stay tuned for that!

#2 | Black or Brown Crossbody Bag

The same rules apply for finding a black or brown crossbody bag. You want to limit the zippers, tassels, etc. The simpler the bag, the more classic and versatile it will be. This might be a bag you carry every day so make sure it’s something you really love. If you don’t like brown or black, try to find a crossbody in another neutral color.

#3 | Black or Brown Shoulder Handbag

This one is important. Consider that this your everyday bag. You need to find something that will go with everything! Your everyday handbag should be quite minimal. Some things to consider:  1) How useful the pockets are on the inside and 2) the overall size. Find something that works best for your lifestyle. If you’re a busy mom, you might need a larger tote bag.

When the kids were younger, I carried a lot more. If you don’t have younger kids, you can get away with a top handle satchel, and could potentially use your crossbody as your everyday bag.
