Holiday Party Outfit Formula

Step #1 | Grab Dark Wash or Black Jeans

The first step to your stress-free holiday outfit is to start with your favorite pair of dark-wash or black jeans. Every woman should have a pair of favorite jeans in their closet. You know…the ones you reach for when you want your legs to look long, butt to look lifted, and confidence level at an all-time high. Bonus points if those jeans are a pair of straight, flared, or wide-leg jeans. If skinny jeans are your favorite and they truly flatter your body shape, that’s totally fine! I suggest only wearing skinny jeans if you opt for tall boots vs. ankle boots or heels.

I’m wearing a pair of jeans by AG that have a bootcut silhouette, high rise (11”), and a beautiful dark wash. All of these elements combine to make a super slimming, flattering and modern pair of jeans.

Step #2 | Choose Solid Blouse or Sweater

Next, let’s talk about your top. During the holiday season, we feel like we need that sparkly, exciting statement top with sequins and embellishments. But if the name of the game is keeping it simple, choosing to wear black is always a great option! If that doesn’t feel festive enough for you, choose a different solid blouse or sweater. Burgundy, red, green, cobalt blue, silver, and gold are all great, fun options too. But when in doubt, black is perfect!

I’m wearing a black ASTR The Label top that has a beautiful one-shoulder neckline. I love a top that shows my shoulders and collarbones because it just adds a dash of sexiness without being over the top. I love the rolled neck and super stretchy fabric. It is on the fitted side so that’s a consideration. For more tummy forgiveness, opt for a top or sweater that is slightly more flowy.

Step #3 | Wear Black Heels or Booties

After you have your favorite jeans and your go-to black or solid-colored top, you’ll want to add some shoes! To keep you looking as long and tall as possible, wear an almond or pointed-toe pair of heels or booties. If you opt for booties over heels, just make sure they are on the dressier side. I’m wearing a pair of black pointed-toe booties by Veronica Beard that I’ve owned for years and break out any time I want to dress up an outfit but keep my feet warm. They’re comfortable (for heels) with a small-ish stiletto heel, which makes them easy-to-walk-in and dressy enough for a holiday party. I also love to wear booties because I can wear socks. Anyone else always have cold feet??

Step #4 | Add Festive Touches

Here’s where you take your beautiful basics, add a dash of sparkle, and suddenly your look is holiday party-ready. Add some excitement and shine with a pair of sparkly statement earrings, a necklace, or even an embellished clutch. This outfit didn’t need it, but you could add a belt, which can pull double duty to add some sparkle and highlight the waist. It really is all about the finishing touches, so add red or burgundy lipstick, paint your nails a festive color, and you’re holiday party-ready! The GREAT thing about these sparkly accessories is…they don’t have to break the bank. You truly can grab your favorite basics, add these thoughtful accessories and look super chic!

Statement Earrings & Embellished Clutch

My festive touches are a gorgeous pair of Lizzie Fortunato statement earrings that are super sparkly and big, but lightweight. (I literally can’t deal with heavy earrings anymore.) Adding these earrings to any holiday outfit will take it up a notch. They’re pricey so I linked a few others I really love below. One note about your holiday jewelry, if you do invest in some nicer pieces that feel timeless… you’ll have them for years to come. If you go the budget route, you might only get one or two seasons out of them before they tarnish. Worth considering cost per wear and longevity.

To complete the look, I grabbed a clutch by Reiss that adds just the right amount of impact without being too sparkly. I’m carrying it as a clutch, but it also has a shoulder strap so you can carry it as a shoulder or crossbody bag too.
