The Best Ways to Have Flawless Skin
When your skin looks healthy, glowing and clear… you look happier, healthier and younger.
I would say on the personal appearance scale…your skin is a pretty big deal.
Below I’m sharing some essential skincare tips to make sure your skin is absolutely flawless!
Find the Right Moisturizer
One of the issues many of us have when it comes to skincare, is finding the right products for our skin type and needs.
I’ve mentioned this before here, but in case you missed it…
Nordstrom has an AMAZING resource that can help…called the Face Moisturizer Guide.
The guide is very simple to use (see image above), and will help you find the right products for you.
I’l talk a bit more about finding the right moisturizer below in Tip #4.

Tip #1 | You Are What You Eat
When I was a kid, I think there were dozens of commercials on weekend mornings with dancing fruits and vegetables, singing about how you are what you eat. Where did those public service announcements go? They were so cute!
It’s something we’ve all heard for a long time, and even though we understand the concept, I think it’s worth repeating.
What you eat, will affect the condition of your skin. Eating bad foods can cause breakouts, dry, sallow skin, premature aging, etc.
If you want to read a little more about the way nutrition affects your skin, check out this WebMD article here.
Foods to Consider
Some skin-boosting foods to consider:
1) Bananas
Bananas contain moisture, potassium, and vitamins E and C, all of which help with clear glowing skin.
Eating banana peels is also supposed to be excellent for your skin. Although admittedly I have not been brave enough to try this.
You can also create a mask with bananas!
Mash a ripe banana with the back of a fork and combine 1 tablespoon of raw honey, and 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice to make an amazing face mask.
Rinse off with a wet cloth or cold water. Anti-aging effects.
2) Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and plums.
These fruits have antioxidants, which help protect the skin against the elements.
3) Salmon, Walnuts, Canola Oil, and Flax Seed
Contain Omega-3’s, which help produce a natural moisture barrier, essential in keeping skin hydrated, plumper, and younger looking.
Put another way, these oils build up the cell barrier, trapping in the moisture.
Tip #2 | Masking
I decided to give this Clinique, ‘City Block’ Purifying Charcoal Clay Mask + Scrub… a whirl since I keep reading about how the amazing benefits of charcoal…something the Koreans SWEAR by when it comes to skincare.
The charcoal draws bad stuff like toxins and chemicals and bacteria to the surface… so it detoxifies and exfoliates the face.
I like to use a mask like this once a week. I regularly use pretty gentle cleansers likes oils or balms so it’s nice to get a really deep clean once a week.
You leave the mask on for about five-minutes, until it hardens. Then gently remove with a warm wet washcloth or your hands.

Tip #3 | Hydration
Let’s go beyond the … drink tons of water tip (which you should do) and talk about products that provide hydration for your skin.
One product I’ve read so many good things about… and I am VERY excited to start using regularly is: Charlotte Tilbury’s magic cream (pictured above).
If you look at the reviews for this product, it consistently gets 4 to 5 stars from users. Check out some of the reviews on Nordstrom.com here.
Using a face primer before foundation… will also hydrate and brighten.
I recently bought Estée Lauder The Illuminator Radiant Perfecting Primer + Finisher (pictured above).
I am a HUGE fan of primers and I think in addition to making your skin glow, they also make your foundation appear more natural.
Tip #4 | Fight Fine Lines
Look for products with anti-aging properties.
Again, if you are not sure what products would work best for your skin type, I would highly recommend using Nordstrom’s Face Moisturizer Guide.
I’ve mentioned the resource before here in a post, if you want to read more.
The guide is very simple to use, and will help you find the right products for you.
I did some research on “Best Anti-Aging” skincare ingredients, topping the list is… hyaluronic acid, which you can find in Clinique’s Moisture Surge products.
I’ve used this line before, and particularly enjoyed using it while on long flights. It adds intense, instant moisture.

Tip #5 | Sunscreen
I wish I had listened to my mom when I was younger… about NOT baking in the sun.
Not only did I bake, with OIL, I also burned EVERY-SINGLE-TIME. There is no telling how many times I had burns so bad, I blistered.
Sunscreen… real, proper sunscreen… would have made a HUGE difference.
Genetics will only take us so far. Thankfully I have pretty good skin genes, so I’m holding it together. (Thanks mom!)
But, I am ALL over skincare and skincare treatments. Sunscreen is a really big part of that.
Built-in SPF
Because I am always limited on time, I like to buy moisturizers with SPF built in… so I don’t have an extra step in the AM.
I look for a product with at least SPF 15 like Clinique Smart (above).
I am testing out the formulation for “very dry skin” here. It also comes in dry to combination and combination/oily skin.
I’ve always loved Clinique products and I think their pricing is attainable.
Bottom Line…
Achieving flawless skin is not something that comes easily or naturally. Just like everything else in life, you have to work at it.
And, in my case, try to undo all the horrible sun damage I caused in my teens and twenties!
It starts with what you put in your body, and extends to the products you use on your skin.
When your skin is glowing and healthy, you WILL look better, more vibrant and most importantly, more youthful.
Please share any skincare secrets YOU may have in the comments below. I would love to know.
HUGE thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post. All products were picked out and purchased by me.
All thoughts are my own.
Thank you SO much for stopping by!
To eat the banana skins, I just put the whole banana in my smoothie. It tastes just a bit more intense than peeled banana.
That is GENIUS! Thanks so much for the tip!!! Erin xo
