In the look above, I went head-to-toe black and white—a color pairing that always works and feels chic no matter the setting. The FRAME Le Slim Palazzo jeans are a favorite for a reason: the leg-lengthening silhouette is ultra-flattering. If you’re petite, pair them with heels (like I did here); if you’re taller, a sleek flat or espadrille works perfectly. I styled the jeans with a striped Veronica Beard polo for a nod to nautical with a preppy twist. It’s polished, it’s easy, and it’s the kind of outfit you could wear to lunch in Martha’s Vineyard and look right at home.

2. Select Stripes
Nothing channels East Coast summer style quite like stripes. Whether it’s a top, a tote, or a pair of espadrilles, a classic stripe adds just the right amount of visual interest while keeping things timeless.
For the look above, I chose a black-and-white striped polo by Veronica Beard. It’s comfortable and soft and adds impact without overwhelming the look.
Black and white stripes are especially versatile and pair beautifully with white denim, tailored shorts, or even capri pants (Yes, they’re back!) I’ve linked a few of my favorite striped staples below.

3. No Logos
When I looked through photos of Carolyn Bessette, one thing stood out immediately: not a single visible logo. She was the queen of quiet luxury. Her looks were simple, subtle, elegant and timeless.
I did include a small nod to Carolyn’s signature scarf moment by tying a graphic printed scarf (by Prada) in my hair—but the branding is barely noticeable, and that’s the point.
Bottom line: If you want to channel this look, skip the logos. Instead, focus on quality, structure, and silhouette.
4. Espadrilles
The espadrille is the unsung hero of East Coast chic—comfortable, chic and classic. Whether it’s a wedge, flat or slingback, they add subtle polish.
I’m wearing a pair of closed-toe, black, Castañer espadrilles. The closed toe is not required but definitely adds refinement to the look. These wedges add height without sacrificing comfort.
Neutral espadrilles like black, beige or metallic are your summer capsule MVP. You will wear them with everything.
5. Add Simple, Thoughtful Accessories

For this look, I added a printed triangle scarf (Carolyn’s signature!)—a subtle nod to her iconic headwear moment. I also reached for small oval sunglasses and the STAUD beaded shoulder bag. These accessories elevate the look with minimal effort.
