A Honest Review of The Legendary La Mer Cream

La Mer skincare Cream Review and First Impressions by Beauty Blogger Over 40 | Erin Busbee, Busbee Style, Telluride Colorado

The Holy Grail

For YEARS I’ve read, watched, and heard about how AMAZING La Mer skincare is…
Literally as far back as I can remember paying attention to skincare (like in my 20’s, that’s about 20 years for those that don’t like math).
Annnddd, every time I saw the price, I thought to myself…
Maybe,

 Someday.

But it’s definitely not happening now. It is SUPER expensive!

Nordstrom’s Interactive Moisturizer Guide

Nordstrom recently reached out and asked if I would like to team up to talk about their online, Moisturizer Guide.
I swear they have all these amazing resources that I still don’t know about, and I’m on the site practically every day.

You can find that Moisturizer Guide here.
(Be sure to click on “Get Started” at top of page)

It’s really neat! Basically, it’s a simple way to help you find the perfect skincare for YOU.

When I completed the guide, La Mer Mini Miracles Collection (pictured above), popped up.
Then it quickly hit me… If you don’t want to invest in the giant one, but are dying to try it, buy the sample size!
(By ‘quickly’ I mean 20 years. Why didn’t I think of this sooner??? ;).

So…that is exactly what I did. I bought the sample size set pictured above.

La Mer Moisturizing Cream

I’ve been using these legendary products for more than two weeks.

My first thought when using the La Mer cream was… why the heck is it SO thick??
I mean, this is the thickest cream I’ve ever tried. It makes it really difficult to apply all over.
I feel like I have to spend a good three to five minutes massaging it into my skin and neck…. with warm hands.

After a quick Google search I realize there is a ‘soft‘ version of the same lotion.
I ordered a sample size of that, and it is MUCH thinner and easier to apply!

My Skin Feels…

After the lotion quickly absorbs, my skin feels instantly tighter, and intensely hydrated!
I do kinda feel like a skin rockstar. Although I’m not certain if this is a placebo effect.
NO question my skin looks great, though.

Wrinkle Reducer?

Have I noticed a difference with fine lines?
It’s too early to tell, and I feel like those results would be so minimal (as with any skin cream) it would be hard to see.
(Like get out the microscope kinda thing)
But, in terms of redness, tone and texture… I’m REALLY happy!

$310 dollars worth of happy?

Probably not.
But, it IS a wonderful product.

Verdict for La Mer Moisturizing Cream:   Try the Soft‘ Cream Sample Size First Before Investing the Big Bucks

The Eye Cream

The eye cream is like… magic!

As I mentioned above it contains the mineral, hematite, which is supposed to help de-puff and color correct.
I love everything about this eye cream: how it glides on without effort, the feel, the smell, the way it makes my eyes look, how makeup layers over it.

VERDICT for The Eye Concentrate:   It’s G-O-O-D … Good!

  1. […] I rounded up some more favorites under $100 (above). I haven’t tried #1, SKII, but I have only heard great things! #2 is a Chanel palette for the whole face that would be amazing for travel. #3 is a ‘best of’ YSL. I reviewed #4, the La Mer set here. […]

  2. […] (Another result for my skin type was the La Mer Mini Miracles Collection which I reviewed earlier in the week here.) […]

  3. Dona says:

Hi Erin! I use LaMer and I love it! You are supposed to warm on your fingertips then pat it on your skin not massage it in like you suggested. I think you may have a different opinion if you applied it the correct way, directions are on Nordstrom’s website too! I tried the soft cream and it just wasn’t moisturizing enough for my dry skin. Expensive yes but I thought knew it’s well worth it!

  4. Joely says:

I love that you were so honest to say that you like it but aren’t sure if you love it so much you are willing to pay $300. Really appreciate your honesty! I too have always wondered about La Mer. Sounds like a great product that I hope one day I can try! Powerball anyone? lol

    • Erin Busbee says:

Thanks, Joely. No powerball needed, LOL… you can just grab a mini! I would recommend trying the ‘soft’ mini.

  5. Susanne says:

Hi Erin, I started with the mini set last year and today I use La Mer cream, treatment lotion, eye balm, lifting contour serum, hydrating serum and brightening mask. The only thing I have had no luck with is the lifting and firming mask…hasnt done anything for me. I have found my skin really likes this brand. The price kills me but I just have stopped buying every new thing that comes out to justify the cost. By the way I am 48, am have always used good skincare, but this really changed my skin.
    Love your videos and Instagram!

    • Erin Busbee says:

Wow…such great feedback, Susanne. Thank you! In what ways do you think your skin changed?? Erin xo

      • Susanne says:

I would have to say my skin is “bouncy”? It’s so soft that at night i find myself touching my face. It has evened the texture and softened sun spots on my cheeks. It also makes my face feel uplifted. I can’t speak of wrinkle control because I am a botox user on my forehead which is where I did have them. I suppose that’s cheating a bit?. I love the la mer products but it’s not a miracle cream, but a super nice luxury cream that I enjoy! Thank you for asking my opinion!!!
        Happy Holidays Erin!

        • Erin Busbee says:

I think one of my darkest sun spots has lightened up, which I’m excited about. Thanks SO much for sharing your experience. It is most helpful!! Erin xo

  6. Karen says:

As I have aged I have become very conscious of the ingredients in the products I put on my face. Admittedly I am a skin care junkie, but I want active proven to work ingredients at the top of the list. The LaMer cream is chock a block with petroleum products. I have extremely dry skin always have. I used original La Met cream in my late 30s. Wouldn’t now, That’s some seriously expensive Vaseline.

  7. Tonya says:

The link the the Moisturizing Guide is taking me straight to all the moisturizers. I can’t seem to find the guide in their site. Can you help?? Love this review and your blog!

  8. Angie says:

Love the review! Where did you order the sample size? Really want to try before investing in the full size. Thanks!!
