New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week VLOG 2016 | Travel & Fashion Diary
What a whirlwind trip!
My BFF, Marnie Goldberg “MsGoldGirl” and I crammed a LOT into those short 3 days.
Well, really 2 days since half of day 1 and 3 were spent traveling.
I was lucky enough to tag along with Marnie, and be her plus one on a project.
I did not plan to go this year after having gone last year.
But, I’m REALLY glad I did!
You can basically go on the trip with us through this VLOG above.
I hope you will watch!
If You Are a Fashion Blogger…
From a business perspective, I think the face time with brands and bloggers was invaluable.
It’s always awesome to network with blogger friends from afar that you follow, but rarely get to see or meet.
And, in most cases, the fashion blogger community is quite supportive of each other.
Last year I came back from NYFW, and thought there a bunch of things I would have done differently.
This year, I think I did everything I could… given the time frame.
But, I’m filled with new ideas of how I might structure and schedule my time differently next year!
I think the most important component, which may surprise some of you, is not necessarily going to shows.
Again, I think it’s far more valuable and important to network, network, network!
Shows
Marnie and I had an invitation to cover Pamella Roland’s show.
But, you may be wondering HOW exactly do you get into fashion shows?
Last year I had NO clue.
This year, thanks to my fellow bloggers and Google, I found out some of the ways to gain access:
1) The app, “Fashion GPS Radar”
2) Email brands, and ask for if there are any opportunities to meet up or collaborate during NYFW.
3) Apply early for press credentials via the Council of Fashion Designers of America or CFDA.
4) Register for NYFW via FOHR card – that could produce show/party invitations
5) Ask other bloggers for brand or designer contact information via Facebook or email (when it makes sense)
Once you reach a certain level, I’m sure the invitations pour in, but until then… why sit back and wait!
What I Wore
Okay, onto the best part…the fashion!
If you missed my packing for NYFW VIDEO, click here to see how I decided what to bring for the trip.
The video above also shows you all of my outfits.
LOOK #1 | Travel Outfit
This look was comfy and chic. I chose to wear wedges versus flats or sneakers because these wedges are SO comfortable. Plus, I always feel more confident in heels.
And, of course I carried my Jetsetter! This exact color is no longer available. But the same bag comes in khaki.
LOOK #2 | Brand Meeting & Dinner
Sleeves on a mini is my ideal combo for a big night out.
I’m showing some leg, but keeping everything else pretty covered up.
This dress runs true to size.
I wore my Baublebar earrings and ring to meet with Baublebar.
LOOK #3 | Brand Meetings
Culottes feel fresh and new and that’s why I decided to wear these.
The hemline is perfect to show off a fabulous pair of pumps.
I also love the big one-shoulder trend. You show a little skin, but not too much.
It’s a great look for women of all ages!
I’m carrying my GiGi New York clutch to meet with them.
I purposely chose a soft, neutral palette for the day.
As much as we want to dress for fall, it was still VERY much summer in the city!
LOOK #4 | Show Look
This was by far my favorite look of the trip. I felt very strong and confident wearing it.
These pants sucked EVERYTHING in and I’m really loving the modern split detailing at the bottom of these pants, to showcase these gorgeous lace-up pumps (another trend for fall). They also come in nude.
These exact pants are sold out here is a similar pair and here is the exact pair in pinstripe for preorder.
My Valentino clutch was just the right size for a kids-free event. I really enjoyed and used the wristlet feature.
LOOK #5 | Networking Event & Flight
This was more of a street chic look.
I purposely chose something a bit more casual because I knew we were going from an event to the airport.
I wore the same wedges home that I wore traveling to NYC (saves space when packing.)
This top is whisper thin which was great in the heat…and comfortable.
And, I like to travel in high-rise jeans so when I sit down, I don’t have to worry about pulling pants up in my seat (aka crack exposure.)
BTW, I bought these jeans a WHILE ago and thought they were long gone. They are awesome!
I found them again on AMAZON. Size up. They run a bit small.
Toiletries & Makeup
Lastly, I just wanted to share some of the toiletries I brought with me in case you are interested in my beauty go-to’s!
