Do you struggle with what to wear every day? Maybe you frantically try on a few outfits in the morning only to feel frustrated, like nothing looks good on you. And, on top of that, now you’ve made a huge mess on the floor. If that sounds familiar, please know you are not alone. SO many women have this issue… and the great news is… we know why. It’s because you are lacking some very important, essentials in your wardrobe. One of the absolute must-haves in every single woman’s wardrobe is a pair of slimming black pants. They are a hero piece you are guaranteed to reach for again and again. Why? Because they’re so flattering, easy to style and versatile! You can wear them to the office, dinner, on date night or even to holiday parties.
Below, I’m showing you two different ways to wear black trousers that you can easily recreate from pieces you have in your closet, and I’m also sharing more about why black pants are such an effective go-to in your wardrobe.
Huge thank you to Spanx for sponsoring this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Slimming Black Pants
SPANXsmooth PerfectFit Ponte Wide-Leg Pant
One of the key reasons why you might struggle with what to wear… you don’t have the basics. You need these core pieces to style all the other pieces with. One of the foundational pieces you should have is black pants. The pair above, the PerfecFit wide-leg pants by Spanx, are insanely flattering and perhaps more importantly, incredibly comfortable! They are the pant silhouette that have the perfect, relaxed, comfortable fit. If you’re not a fan of super tight, you will absolutely LOVE these looser fitting pants. And, the Ponte knit fabric is very soft, functional, wrinkle-resistant, and so easy to care for. Machine washable? Yes, please!
These pants don’t have any pockets, buttons, or zippers so there’s no bulk and you get a very streamlined look. You also get the amazing, built-in compression technology that Spanx is so well known for! The high-rise makes you feel very secure and smooth while staying very comfortable.
Notes on sizing: They run a little big. I would size down one size from your normal Spanx size. I’m wearing the regular length (32.5” inseam) and styled them with a pair of heeled booties. But if I had ordered the petite length (30” inseam), I could wear flats. I’m 5’4” for reference. Just make sure you keep the inseam lengths in mind. And, don’t forget they come in a tall inseam length too!

Styling Black Wide-Leg Pants
This is an example of an outfit you can easily recreate AND it could literally take you anywhere…from the office, to dinner, or even to a holiday party! It’s basic, yes… but also chic, sophisticated, elongating, slimming, and versatile. It’s allll the things you want it to be. Let’s not forget, it’s also very comfortable and warm!
I styled the Spanx wide-leg pants with a very lightweight turtleneck that has some cool white cuffs that add an extra stylish pop. It’s a very Parisian-chic sweater but still super versatile. It’s a lovely length so you can leave it untucked or do a front tuck too. You can see that I’m not showing any skin here, I’m completely covered. But because everything is tailored, I still have a shape and the look is very flattering. Looking feminine and even sexy doesn’t always mean showing skin. Silhouette and tailoring really make a difference.
I added some key accessories to complete the look like an elevated black crossbody bag that has a sportier feel and a impactful, but still everyday-appropriate, gold necklace.

SPANXsmooth PerfectFit Ponte Flare Pant
This second look is another very chic and flattering all-black outfit. You really can’t go wrong with all-black or any monochromatic outfit if you’re trying to look taller and slimmer. But all-black can look the most luxe and high-quality. In this look, I’m wearing Spanx’s flare pants! If the last pair of pants was too wide-leg for you, these are a great alternative. They also do not have buttons, zippers or pockets, so you get a streamlined look. But these are a flared pant, meaning they are fitted through the thigh and then flare out at the knee. The other key distinction is that I’m wearing the petite length (30” inseam) with a pair of ballet flats. While I always prefer sneakers or heels, I know many of you prefer flats, so I wanted to show you this option.
Styling Black Flared Pants
You can wear this look on date night or to a holiday party. A date night look with flats. How great, right?! What makes it even more date night appropriate is this peek-a-boo sheer lace blouse. I have a bralette underneath to show some skin, but you could easily dial it back by wearing a camisole or tank underneath to cover the midsection. You can easily mix and match the pants and blouse with other pieces in your closet too.
This outfit could also work for a holiday party! I’d just add a pair of big, sparkly chandelier earrings or a statement necklace and ring. You could even do a bag or shoes with some sparkle. Add a burgundy or red lip and nails too to make this holiday-party-perfect. Never forget about the little styling details that take your look to the next level!
