The winter months can wreak havoc on your skin. During this time, it’s important to take really good care of your skin and that usually means making a few product switches in your skin care routine. The colder temperatures, lower humidity, and indoor heating strip the skin barrier, making it more difficult to lock in moisture and keep your skin looking bright and hydrated. This can lead to dry flaky skin and dullness. So today, we’re sharing Erin’s effective winter skincare routine that leaves her skin feeling hydrated and looking bright…even in the dry winter air of Colorado (at 9,000+ feet altitude).
If you’re interested in clean beauty, we recently shared ALL of Team Busbee’s favorite clean skincare products here. Plus, if you’re looking for more clean beauty brands, you can find our list here.

Winter Skin Care Routine
Step 1: Colleen Rothschild Cleansing Balm
The first step in Erin’s winter skin care routine is a gentle cleansing balm by Colleen Rothschild. If you’ve been following Busbee Style for a while, you’ve definitely seen Erin talk about this cleansing balm. It’s nothing short of amazing. The smell and rich creamy texture are spa-like and so luxurious. A cleansing balm is definitely different than a normal cleanser. You massage it into dry skin (versus wet) and it’s a thicker consistency. You can use it day and night and it will take off all your makeup from the day…including eye makeup! If you’re already a fan of the balm, consider getting the jumbo size.
Step 2: Colleen Rothschild Mandelic Acid Radiance Serum
During this time of year, your skin feels dry and itchy from the winter weather, and you might think you shouldn’t exfoliate. But exfoliating during the winter can actually help you get rid of those dead skin cells, open your skin up to all of the amazing products you’re planning to apply after this step, and ultimately retain moisture. Of course, you should always discuss your skincare routine with a board-certified dermatologist…everyone’s skin is different! But this is what works for Erin and her dry skin.
The amazing thing about this serum is that it’s an extremely gentle exfoliation. It is a treatment that leaves your skin looking brighter and smoother over time. The Mandelic Acid exfoliates beautifully, getting rid of dead skin cells, and boosting radiance! This is another pro-aging powerhouse Erin has been using for years. The website says to use this item at night, but Erin also loves using it in the morning.

Step 3: Augustinus Bader Rich Cream & Face Oil Combination
This next step is key to extreme hydration. Erin recently started using the Augustinus Bader skincare products and said it’s the most luxe clean skincare she’s ever used. She uses the Rich Cream and the Face Oil combined to create the ultimate hydrating concoction. The Rich Cream has hyaluronic acid and squalene that help plump and moisturize skin. The Face Oil feels incredible on the skin and really takes the hydration up a notch. Erin uses this combination all over her face, neck, and chest in the morning and at night.
These products do come with a big price tag so if you’re looking for something more affordable that will give you a lot of hydration, use the Colleen Rothschild Extreme Recovery Cream combined with the Face Oil No. 9. That was Erin’s go-to for dry skin before she tried the Augustinus Bader products.
Step 4: Colleen Rothschild Retinol Supreme Eye Serum
Last but certainly not least…make sure you take care of the skin around your eyes as well. Erin uses the Colleen Rothschild Retinol Supreme Eye Serum and considers it an anti-aging must-have. Retinol is the gold standard for combatting fine lines and wrinkles. Erin loves the cool, soothing applicator that makes it super easy to apply. Erin uses it day and night but loves how it acts as an amazing primer for concealer before she puts makeup on in the mornings.
Step 5: Darphin 8-Flower Golden Nectar Skin Renewing Oil
Because Erin lives at such a high altitude and the air is super dry, she often needs a little extra hydration before applying makeup in the morning or just any time her skin feels SUPER dry. In that case, she uses this Darphin oil that has a blend of eight flowers and 20+ plant and essential oils. It feels lightweight on her skin and absorbs quickly for instant hydration.
