I Love This Skirt. Period.
Just a few notes of that snappy theme song from Sex And The City conjures up images of Carrie Bradshaw walking the streets of NYC in her pretty, pink tulle skirt. I loved it then and I love it now (maybe even more)!
Can you wear a tulle skirt over 40 and still look chic and sophisticated? You bet you can! You can wear it at 20 and you can wear it at 40+. In fact, I’m sharing 3 looks with the same tulle skirt that are classic, and ageless. I love finding reasons to wear this skirt! Dinner…sure! Why not? Grocery store…yup. Ok, maybe not the grocery store but a day or evening event, lunch with girlfriends, or just because I feel like it! Keep scrolling to find out just how versatile a tulle skirt can really be…

#1) Over A Dress
Expert layering is truly an art form. This & Other Stories black and white polka dot dress has the perfect hemline for layering over the tulle skirt without adding any bulk. I added my Elisabetta Franchi belt to nip in the dress at the waist. I threw a one-button wool-blend coat from Express over my shoulders, which feels chic and effortless. The exact belt and dress are unfortunately sold out right now, but I linked similar options above that will work perfectly for pulling off this look.
The skirt adds a touch of drama and femininity to this outfit. The longer hemline offers coverage and the layering is unexpected…which is why I love it SO much. I was truly inspired by this gorgeous hotel in Sevilla, Spain. It was by far the most fabulous hotel I’ve ever stayed in. While not in NYC like Carrie, I channeled her same confident, anything-goes, fashion-forward style with this look.

#2) With A Blazer
In this look, I paired the same tulle skirt with my Balmain Blazer, a simple cami, and the same belt and booties. The classic double-breasted blazer is all business, and the skirt makes it a more feminine look. The belt breaks up the neutral colors of the cami and skirt and defines my waist. Because the skirt is a statement piece, I kept everything else neutral and simple. The blazer is definitely a higher price point, but the fit is impeccable. I linked a more affordable option above.
If you’re interested, I reviewed whether this blazer is worth it or not in this post.

#3) Sequins & Pearls
This just might be my favorite look of the bunch. I get it…you aren’t going to cruise into school pick-up wearing this ensemble, but it is so elegant, chic, and perfect for a dressier winter event. I added multi-strand pearls and warm winter accessories for a touch of glam (and warmth). I’m wearing comfortable (for heels!) pointed-toe Sam Edelman pumps with a slightly flared heel that comes up a little further on the foot than the sister version, Hazel pump, which I also own and wear a ton. If you’re interested in another way to style this fabulous sequin top (that’s not just for the holidays) you’ll want to check out this post.
Do you see how this one tulle skirt is waaaaay more versatile than you might think? I also plan to style it with Chelsea boots and a slouchy sweater – the possibilities are (almost) endless!
Have you watched the new show And Just Like That… (a follow-up to the Sex And The City series) on HBO Max? What did you think? Please share in the comments! […] you love the tulle skirt but aren’t sure you’ll wear it, make sure you check out this post with even more outfit […]
I just bought my first blazer last week (camel colored)…. & I am totally loving your tulle skirt with black blazer outfit! Makes the skirt a little less cute (I don’t do cute, I prefer edgy) so that it would be manageable for me. It would be a dramatic fashion risk away from my comfort zone, but I may just do it!
Thanks so much, Laura! Yes, I love mixing feminine and edgy so the tulle and blazer look right up my alley. The new year is a great time to get outside your style comfort zone…hope you try it out! ~Erin xo
The skirt is beautiful and my favorite outfit is the last one. So Russian princess ?.
I have watched 2 episodes of And Just Like That and I unfortunately have to say I’m not impressed. I think all the ladies still look great( and appropriate for their age), but I don’t think the way they handled the Samantha situation was true to her character. Samantha would never do that to Carrie or the other women. And she definitely would have shown up to Big’s funeral. I’ve also heard that the way they deal with Willie Garson’s character is also problematic. I’m thinking there is a reason that Darren Starr didn’t want to do this show. I think they should have left it alone.
Thank you, Nancy! The show has definitely been polarizing in many ways but our favorite part…is the fashion! Thanks for sharing! ~Team Busbee
I purchased the skirt from Asos and I’m LIVING for it!!! I’ve worn it with white Guiseppe Zanotti pointy ankle boots, a white scoop neck body suit and white leather jacket.
AND I did wear it to the grocery store on Christmas Eve, totally fine! :-). Worn with the same white bodysuit and booties but with a red Columbia puffer vest to make it casual yet whimsical.
Love you and your style Erin!!
Yay! So glad you’re loving it…Sounds like such a great look! And love that you wore it to the grocery store! ~Erin xo
Hi Erin! That skirt is breathtaking! I just discovered your blog and YouTube channel (I may have found myself stuck in a vortex of watching your videos last weekend). I shared your channel with my mom as well. I am looking forward to seeing more of your style.
