Styling Combat Boots
During the initial Doc Marten combat boot days in the 90’s, I skipped the trend. I was in college, and I didn’t yet appreciate that you can mix “tough” or masculine with feminine pieces. It’s kind of like mixing antiques with mid-century modern furniture; tricky… but it can be done. And, when it’s done right, it definitely stands out in a GOOD way. Once the mix is mastered, it adds edge to your look and opens up a whole new wardrobe world. And, I can’t say enough about the comfort factor here. A stylish and comfortable combo is always a win in my book! Keep scrolling to see how I styled my combat boots 3 ways…

#1) With A Dress
In this first outfit, I paired my Steve Madden combat boots with a fit and flare, satin Maje dress which has a smocked waist that is SO flattering. I wore this look on a recent weekend trip to Dubrovnik, Croatia, and felt so comfortable and chic. This dress also comes in a gorgeous brown tone. I linked a few similar options below. The key to this look is the mix of the flowy, luxe, feminine fabric of the dress with the edgy combat boots. The billowy sleeves, ruching, tiered skirt, and ruffle shoulder detail are all beautifully feminine touches that offset the chunky boots. These exact boots are sold out but these are very similar and come in black and four other color options.

# 2) With A Feminine Blouse & Jeans
Another great way to style combat boots is quite simple…with a pair of jeans and a chic blouse! I paired my combat boots with my favorite Moussy Vintage jeans and a satin Paige blouse with bell cuffs. It’s those same feminine details of the blouse that really create that contrast to the chunky boots. I know some of you aren’t a fan of wearing black blouses because you fear the dark color might look a bit too harsh so I’ve linked some similar styles below in some lighter shades. Plus, look #3 might be more your style…
Style tip: If you want to highlight the boots even more, don’t be afraid to cuff your jeans.

#3) With A Sweater & Jeans
Do you remember this look from this post? I picked up this sweater during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale…and so did everyone else on Team Busbee! Yes, it’s that good! This look is very similar to look #2 but I love the way the fuzzy texture and bright white contrast the masculinity of the boots in this look!
