One-Pieces Can be Just as Sexy as Two-Pieces…
I know being in a swimsuit is a huge source of angst for most of us. I refuse to try suits on in the store now… and will only try them on in the privacy (and kinder light) of my own home. Because at some point we have all examined our bodies in a 3-way mirror under florescent light and thought… holy hell. I didn’t realize it was THAT bad. My dermatologist calls it, “skin laxity,” which is a fancy way for saying, your skin is dimply because of gravity and age.
In this post, I’m sharing three sexy AND flattering swimsuits for women over 40 that I wore during our family trip to Hawaii. All of these happen to be one piece swimsuits but I also did a post about my favorite bikinis here.
Remember that every body type is different. It’s important to know what style or design details best highlight your body. If you want some body type pointers, you might like this post.
This tropical print swimsuit by La Blanca is the perfect mix of whimsy and sophistication. The print is perfect for a beach getaway like Hawaii. You can wear it as a deep v, plunging suit (like I am above), or cross the straps and wear as a halter neck suit. You all know how much I love a multi-functional piece! The band under the bust helps give you shape and define your waist.
I think this black one piece by Robin Piccone is gorgeous, sexy and flattering. The straps at the bust, and tiny peek-a-boo cut out under the bust, make is a standout. This is also mom friendly. I swam and hung out with the kids… no problem. I also do the sit and bend tests. Does everything stay in place when I sit on a rock? Yup…see the picture above. The bend over test is important as well. How many times do we bend over to pick up stuff for our kids…like a zillion.
This is one of my favorites. It’s a white one piece by OYE. The OYE suits are SUPER glam and very flattering. They are a little pricey, but I think they are worth the investment. Here is a dupe of this suit for those on a budget.
See Through Factor
I think this depends on what you have going on downstairs. If you are a full, 70’s-style kind of girl, you may have some issues with the suit being see through. Otherwise, I think you’ll be just fine. 😉
The newest kid on in my suit collection is by Solid & Striped, and I absolutely love it! The scoop neckline adds length, and can help to minimize a bigger bust. It also pulls double duty, and enhance a smaller bust because it scoops so low (showing a little cleavage). But, it’s really the belt that makes the suit! I felt like a Bond girl wearing this bad boy on the beach… minus my sneakers. I’m pretty sure no Bond girl would wear white sneaks. I’m a Bond ‘mom’ girl.. 😉
More Flattering Swimsuits For Women Over 40
Take it from me, I’ve ordered DOZENS of swimsuits from all over, all different brands… stick with brands that work for YOU. When I go rogue, which happens quite often because reviewing and testing clothes is my gig, it’s not pretty. Stick to your go-to brands.
