The belt bag, which is also sometimes referred to as the fanny pack, (although the two are slightly different) is back in a big way this year! Have you seen them online? Maybe you thought what the heck do I need one of those for? Or maybe you wondered how you might style it. Well, let me first tackle “the why“. If you want to walk around hands-free, carrying a very sleek and minimal bag, there is no better option! If you also want to elevate your look and style… this simple accessory will take your outfit… and style street cred… to the next level!

What is a Belt Bag?
A belt bag is a small pouch attached to a belt to carry your essentials like credit cards, phone, and lipstick! It enables you to carry those items hands-free, which makes the belt bag ideal for travel.

How Do You Wear a Belt Bag?
I’ve seen belt bags styled with gowns, over trench coats, over blazers, and with dresses like I’m wearing above.
This is an outfit I wore during the Reward Style blogger conference. I was scheduled to meet one-on-one with several brands and also network in the brand lounge. I wanted to look professional, but also be comfortable. The belt bag enabled me to be hands-free, which was key… so I could easily pull out business cards, shake hands, grab my press kit, and carry a bottle of water or cup of coffee.
What Belt Bag Should I Buy?
My Prada Cahier Belt Bag is a 2-in-1. You can easily remove the belt, take out the gold, chain-link handle from inside the bag and carry it as a shoulder or crossbody bag. Whenever I’m making a big investment like this, I look for functionality and versatility. The belt bag in itself may not be something you wear all the time, but I love with this bag, I can easily carry it like a normal bag. I really feel like I’m getting more bang for my buck. The Gucci “Marmont” Belt Bag is probably one of the most popular choices. It’s also quite sleek and elegant.
The Trend
Besides having an obvious function of keeping you hands-free, belt bags are also having a moment in fashion. They add instant style cred to your look. If you like to look like you have it going on in the style department, I would highly recommend trying this key, fashion-forward accessory. Don’t you just love when something trendy also serves a real purpose??
This dress, by the way, is one of my all-time favorites by Norma Kamali. The fabric is virtually wrinkle-free and travels beautifully. It’s also incredibly chic. The booties are by Stuart Weitzman and will elevate any look. You will definitely be wearing sock booties into the fall-winter season this year too!

Everyth old is new again! We called them fanny packs back in the 80s but i like the term “hand free” much better, and they are soooo much cuter than any that i owned back in the day. Keep Rocking it! (I don’t know why this is typing in all caps?)
You are so funny, Harriet! It’s not all caps… I’m really digging the belt bag. Well, I really dig anything that frees up my hands, backpacks, fanny packs… 😉 Erin xo

Love your stylE aNd most importantly your help !❤️
I do like the versatility of a belt bag. I love the hand free advantage but also the safety advantage . Good luck to the thief trying to run off with my belt bag! I love the fact that some are convertible crossbodys. But the DISADVANTAGE is that they are sMall and dont hold my necessities so i would have to snag a sale To find one under a $100.
you are beautiful, and very Super model like! Love, love your style!
What a sweet note. Thank you SO much, Marli! Erin xo
