My New Favorite Camel Wrap Coat
The two categories in your closet I say you should invest in? Outerwear and handbags. Both of these make a statement. Even if you’re wearing a tee and jeans…throw on a gorgeous coat and you instantly elevate your look. Some other advantages of having a high-quality coat are that you look sophisticated any time you wear it, it easily pulls an outfit together with little effort, and it keeps you very warm! I recently ordered this gorgeous camel wrap coat by Max Mara I’m excited to share my thoughts!

Max Mara Camel Hair Coat
I’ve had my eye on this iconic camel hair Max Mara wrap coat ever since I signed it out for a photoshoot back in 2012 from Saks. Nothing feels as luxe or as soft as this coat. The color is super versatile and it’s the perfect coat to throw on this fall/winter and immediately feel more sophisticated and timeless. You can also layer this coat over a blazer, no problem. That is a unique thing to find.
In the photos above I’m wearing it open, but it can be worn belted… as a wrap coat. It hits at my calf and I’m 5’4” so it will be a little shorter on taller women. I love the length because it makes you look taller and leaner. If you can swing it, you should definitely invest in this coat! There are many versions of this coat for less, though. One of my favorites is this one by Ralph Lauren. It looks JUST LIKE the one by Max Mara.
The Look
I really love this look! As you may know, I’ve been building my capsule wardrobe around neutrals like brown and white and you can see many of those tones in this look. SIf you like wearing blacks or grays, you can easily duplicate this look by swapping out the brown coat for a charcoal gray or black option.
Under the coat, I’m wearing a funnel neck top by Tibi. It’s sleeveless so it’s great for layering under coats and jackets. I love that it’s white. It’s not cropped but I like the shorter hem. Unfortunately, it’s sold out so I linked a very similar one.
I’m wearing it with classic dark wash skinny jeans that are on sale right now! Then, I threw on some gorgeous brown boots by Tamara Mellon. They’re perforated so they breathe well. The perfect transition boots! They are seriously STUNNING! I featured them in this post. Finally, I grabbed my new favorite handbag. It’s black and brown so it’s very easy to style!

What size are you wearing? I have it in an 8. I usually wear a 6 in coats. Sometimes it seems too oVersized but it fits much like yours does. But i do live it! So luxe.
I ordered size 4. I ended up sending it back and bought the Ralph Lauren one instead, but I think it’s sold out. 🙁 https://rstyle.me/+8hmiw1JdDjtDRD8oxugYAw Keep a look out for restocking. I bought size 0 in the RL one.
I am increasingly put off by the pieces you highlight on your Blog. I look to you for inspiration and sound advice, but most of your posts of late seem as if they are written for the 1% – perhaps that is your audience and I was mistaken? I feel like I don’t belong on your site and/or my budget doesn’t resonate with your mission. The space between Max Mara and JC Penney is vast; Please target a few posts to Those of us who make a few investment pieces per season, but consider a Balmain Jacket or Max Mara coat excessive. I’m raising two children and working full time, like many of your readers, I suspect. this demographic seems poorly represented online, but we are out there. Sustainable, Slow Fashion is needed for our children and the planet. I think that your blog could make real contribution to this important topic, but it’s been off of late. Please consider a post on refreshing your wardrobe – build around basics that you wisely suggest we own. Perhaps sites like anthropologie or & other stories lack quality or are ‘fast fashion’. I would like guidance. A post of how to wear and style wide leg pants or Even boot cut jeans would be helpful as well. Thank you,
Anne
Anne, thank you for your feedback. 90% of my content is in the $50 – $100 price range because that is the most popular range for most of us. I occasionally feature higher-end items because I think they are worth the investment, but I also include more affordable, similar options. Thank you again for sharing. Erin xo
Erin and AnnE,
I was just going to tell Erin that I did some searching last spring and found a “like-new” $800 camel coat on Thredup for $68 (with a 35% discount because I hadn’t shopped there in a while). I was so eager for it to arrive, and the fit was perfect. I honestly am excited for colder weather to break it out! I think I got an affordable statement piece because I was patient and thorough, and it made the shopping experience more fun. I am now committed to go one full year with second-hand clothes only. You’ve suggested sites like thredup and others before so thank you, Erin! Anne, perhaps you should join me. the hunt is seriously fun (and I too work full-time and have two kids). Thanks, Stacy
WOW… great find!! Way to go, Stacy!! Erin xo
