Simple but Elegant Halloween Costume
Does anyone else feel like Halloween sneaks up on them every year? I typically don’t get around to ordering costumes until mid-October or I just grab something out of my closet … and make it work. Does this sound familiar?? This year, though, I’m way ahead of the game! And, yes I’m quite proud, which is one of the reasons I’m sharing it with you. The coolest part of this simple costume idea below is… I can actually wear in real life after Halloween. No need to store this one!

Grace Kelly Halloween Costume
Grace Kelly’s style in two words…elegant and sophisticated! She was a fashion icon known for her simple, but chic looks that felt attainable…and of course, for being the Princess of Monaco and a Hollywood icon. I took one of her gorgeous looks from the 1950s thriller, Rear Window, and recreated it. Each of the pieces are items I’d wear separately after Halloween too…
If you’re interested in some other easy, last-minute Halloween costumes, the team came up with a few fun options…
- Elle Woods – Dress up like Elle Woods from Legally Blonde in a head-to-toe pink look…Barbiecore is SO on-trend right now and you probably have something pink in your closet!
- Audrey Hepburn – All you really need is a black dress and pearls to pull off the classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s
- Marilyn Monroe – Any white fit and flare dress paired with heels will create that iconic subway grate scene.
- Top Gun – Did anyone see the new movie this year? Create your own Top Gun-inspired look with a cool bomber jacket, aviator sunglasses, jeans, and a white tee…easy!

White Skirt
The beautiful white skirt might be the most important piece for pulling off this Grace Kelly look. I got this chic Phillip Lim flared midi skirt. I love the flattering (and comfortable) elastic waistband and flattering flared silhouette. The midi length is also wonderful for women over 40. The gold buttons add an elevated detail that takes this knit skirt up a notch. It runs large, order one size down (I’m wearing a small, but exchanging it for xs). This skirt would also be great for holiday travel as it doesn’t wrinkle!
Note: I’m wearing a tulle skirt underneath to make the skirt look even fuller. But it’s already pretty full on its own.
Black Bodysuit
Next, I paired the skirt with a black DKNY bodysuit. I truly believe the most gorgeous body parts to show off at any age are the shoulders and décolletage. This off-shoulder, portrait neckline bodysuit is the perfect example. It’s also super lightweight, the material is soft, and the fit is wonderful. The bodysuit is also wrinkle-resistant and ideal for travel. It runs true to size.

Accessories
Some of the things that really bring this Grace Kelly look to life are the accessories! The white silk opera gloves add so much drama to the look and I feel like a queen wearing them. They have 3 faux pearl buttons that add an extra touch of elegance too. In the original photo, Grace Kelly is wearing a single-strand pearl necklace. I decided to modernize it a bit with this Kenneth Jay Lane multi-strand necklace that has faux pearl and gold chains. I have the necklace on backwards (purposely) to get the same Grace Kelly look in the front, with drama in the back. You know what I always say…I like drama with my clothes, not in my life! On my feet, I’m wearing my favorite pair of classic black pumps by Jimmy Choo. I’ve had these for years and they’re still the winner for “most comfortable pumps” in my book.
