Makeup Secrets for Mature Skin

As I’ve gotten older, I can’t help but notice how my skin has changed. While I’d love to say it doesn’t bother me, I’m human and sometimes it gets to me. One of the ways I feel like I’m pro-aging my skin (we don’t use “anti-aging” at BUSBEE)… and creating a makeup look that makes me feel super confident… is to bring on the glow!! It’s easy to buy the wrong products that might add too much ‘sparkle’ …or apply shimmer so it highlights fine lines and wrinkles so the products you use and how you apply them are KEY. Below, I’m sharing FIVE makeup secrets for mature skin to help you get a glowy, dewy, youthful look.

Secret #1) Moisturize the Skin

The first step to getting youthful-looking skin is to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Living in Colorado at 9,000+ feet, this is especially important for my skin.  Plus, I have dry skin anyway. So, the first key to creating a youthful makeup look, moisturize your face. I started with the Magic Serum Crystal Elixir. It’s one of Charlotte Tilbury’s newest skincare innovations…they worked with expert scientists to create this super hydrating serum that really helps create that youthful glow. Next, I used the new Charlotte Tilbury Magic Water Cream. It’s silicone-free, fragrance-free, and cruelty-free…which are all very important to me. Secret #2) Flawless Foundation

Now that your skin is perfectly hydrated, it’s time to choose a foundation. We’re trying to achieve that dewy, glowing skin for this makeup look, so I chose to apply Charlotte’s Beautiful Skin Foundation all over with a beauty blender. It is a liquid foundation with medium coverage that is very buildable. I find that liquid foundations are much more hydrating and forgiving with my aging skin. If you’re looking for more of a matte, full-coverage foundation, I also love the Airbrush Flawless Foundation. I wear the shade 6 Cool in both foundations. I’ve also been wearing the Hollywood Flawless Filter (shade Fair) for years and love it for a sheer, glowing look. You can wear it on its own for a no-makeup look, mixed with your favorite foundation for an illuminated look, or as a highlighter on top of your foundation. You will absolutely love all three of these products.

Secret #3) Apply the Dynamic Duo

Charlotte Tilbury’s contour and highlighter wands are what I’m calling the dynamic duo! Contour and highlighter are what help give the face more shape and add extra glow. I used the Hollywood Contour Wand (in shade Light to Medium) to contour my jawline, cheeks, hairline, and nose. You can apply the product on the wand directly to the face and blend it out using your favorite contour brush. Or you can put a little bit of the product from the wand on the back of your hand and apply it that way. I chose the latter application technique to get a lighter, more natural look.

Next, I used the Beauty Light Wand (in Pillow Talk Original) on my cheekbones (using a brush) and a little down the center and on the tip of my nose (using the pad of my finger). The application of these wands is SO easy and I love the glowy finish. This combo defines the features of the face and adds maximum glow that catches the light.

Secret #4) Open Up Hooded Eyes

Since I do have slightly hooded eyes and delicate crepey skin on my lids, I typically reach for matte shadows for the lid and crease and then add some shimmer in the corners of my eyes and just below the eyebrows. I also love to line my upper lash line with a brown shadow to give the eyes more definition and pop. Keeping the shadow close to the lash line makes lids appear larger and opens the eyes even more. For this look, I used the new Beautyverse Palette which has the prettiest shades of gold, pink, and lilac shades in matte and metallic finishes. I mostly used the top three shades (Virtual Taupe, Supernova Suede, and Space Chocolate) and added a little shimmer in the corners (shade Beautyverse). Then I used Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes! Mascara which gives my lashes SO much volume and length! No fake eyelashes needed!

Secret #5) Finish & Set

Now for the finishing touches and one of the most important steps! How you finish and set your makeup can dramatically impact the dewiness, glow, and youthfulness of your makeup look. I used the Airbrush Brightening Flawless Finish. It’s a really light powder that doesn’t sit in creases or cake. It also helps brighten and blur. I applied it all over my cheeks and jawline with a fluffy brush. I used a smaller brush to set concealer, shadow, and nose contouring. Then I set the glow… with my go-to, Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray that I’ve used for years. This combo is what you need if you want your makeup to last all day and into the night.  It is SO good! Lastly, on my lips, I applied Pillow Talk Lipstick, which has been a go-to in my makeup bag for YEARS…it’s the perfect nude-pink shade that literally looks amazing on everyone.
