12 Outfits to Recreate If You Want To Look Like A “Cool Mom” This Summer

What do you wear most often during the summer? What is the combination you reach for again and again because it makes you feel comfortable and confident?? That’s your style uniform!

Since I have kiddos, I like to call it my “momiform” but even if you don’t have kids, you should have a style uniform! We want our clothes to be fashionable and functional. YOUR style uniform is the outfit your throw on and immediately feel comfortable, confident, and stylish! It’s the one you turn to when you’re not sure what to wear. It’s the one you wear and know, “I got this! I can handle whatever life throws at me today.” Knowing your “uniform” will also save you time so you always know what to wear in a pinch!

My Momiform

Usually, during the summer, I’m taking the kids to camps, going to games, running errands, cooking, cleaning, etc. As the kids get older, my day-to-day looks a little different, but my style uniform is still the same! It’s simple…a chic tee or top, cool denim or shorts, and comfortable shoes. If I know I’ll get cold, sometimes I’ll throw on a blazer or jacket. But that’s the beauty of the style uniform…you can keep building on it or swap out pieces to dress it up. For example, I can swap out my sneakers for a pair of sandals and add a jacket to have a dressier look. Another note…your style uniform changes from season to season and even from year to year depending on what’s happening in your life. For example, now, that my kids are a little older, I no longer carry bags the size of a sink. I much prefer carrying only the essentials.

#1) Printed Top & Trendy Denim

In this look, I’m wearing a pair of Moussy Vintage jeans with a cool split hem detail and distressing. If you’re an email or YouTube subscriber, you know how much I love Moussy jeans…the fit is amazing, the denim is super high-quality, and the length is always perfect on me (I’m 5’4”). I can already tell that these jeans will be a heavy hitter for me this summer and into fall. I also love how the split hem frames a pair of shoes. The top I’m wearing by Hunter Bell is such a pretty print that just screams summer! I loved it so much that I also bought it in the blue striped print. The top is selling out fast but is still available in a few colors and sizes here. On my feet, I’m wearing a pair of platform wedges by Veronica Beard that are perfect for summer! The woven material gives that beachy, summertime feel and adds more texture to a look. I also love the small platform, which makes them easier to walk in. I don’t like when I have to deal with buckles or zippers so I love that I can just slide these on with a dress, jeans, or shorts, and be out the door in seconds…a must with busy summer schedules! If I had a lot of running around to do that day, I would swap the wedges for a pair of chic sneakers. Complete your momiform with your favorite everyday jewelry or statement piece and you’re ready to go!

#2) Faux Leather Shorts & Button Down

If you live in a warmer climate and try to avoid denim during the summer, go for a chic pair of shorts. These faux leather Jonathan Simkhai shorts are ideal for women over 40 because they have roomier legs, an A-line silhouette, and a flattering, high-waisted, elastic waistband (yay for comfort!). The roomier, A-line silhouette actually makes your legs look slimmer and longer. The A-line shape can also help mask or minimize hips, butt, and thighs if that’s your problem area. I styled the shorts with my favorite Rails button-down shirt that I wear every summer. It runs true to size but this year I sized up to a medium for a roomier, billowy fit and am really loving it! On my feet, I’m wearing the same wedges. But again, you could easily swap the heel for sneakers or sandals.

#3) Trendy Button Down & Denim

I love my white Rails button-down, but it’s really nice to mix it up sometimes too! How cool is this button-down shirt by Maje?! Definitely not your average button-down shirt. It has a built-in tank that makes that effortless layered look super…well, effortless! I love the slouchy, relaxed fit and asymmetrical buttons. It’s also cotton poplin, so you won’t get hot! I styled it with a pair of split hem jeans by EB Denim. I love the baggier fit, split hem, and two-toned raw hem. My shoes are a pair of See by Chloe platform heels that are super on-trend right now. I’ll also be wearing this button-down with denim shorts and sandals this summer.

#4) White on White

Following the same outfit formula, I styled this pretty white Maje blouse with a pair of white jeans by Mother. You can’t go wrong with a white blouse for summer and this one is perfect if you don’t like to show your arms but still want to stay cool (it’s 100% cotton and breathable). These white straight leg jeans are ankle length (~27-inch inseam), have a raw hem, and are super high-quality denim. Not see-through issues at all!

#5) Elevated Shorts & Tee

In this look, I’m wearing these cool pinstripe Marissa Webb shorts with a pleat sleeve tee by See by Chloe. These shorts have the same roomy leg, A-line silhouette, and high waist that’s so flattering. The tee is sold out, but I linked a more affordable option I own and love. On my feet, I went with some tan See by Chloe platform heels but for a busy summer day, I’d wear a pair of sneakers or flat sandals.

#6) Joggers & Chic Blouse

If you avoid jeans but don’t like to show off your legs…try joggers! These James Perse joggers are old but I love them and linked this year’s version. The fit is SO good, the fabric is breathable, and the length is perfect. If you pair them with a more elevated pieces like the chic white Maje top and Veronica Beard wedges, they look less casual…but you could easily wear them with a basic white tee and sneakers for a more casual look!

#7) Feminine Blouse & White Jeans

Nothing screams summer quite like a pink floral blouse, right?! This LoveShackFancy top is SO beautiful and feminine. The print is subtle, the pink is really pretty and vibrant, and I love that it has sleeves. All of the little details are what really make this top special…the puff sleeves, crochet, and unique sleeve hem. I get asked a lot during the summer to share summer tops with sleeves…that won’t make you hot. This top is 100% cotton so it’s breathable and lightweight! I paired it with the same white Mother jeans and See by Chloe heels.

#8) Breezy Pants & Button Down

Did I mention I love this Rails button-down?? 😉 This time, I paired it with some gauzy cotton pants that are also by Rails. The brand is known for its comfortable, breathable, high-quality fabrics so when I saw these pants, I knew I had to try them. They do not disappoint…they are SO breathable, the split hem adds a cool style detail, and the elastic waistband gives an added layer of comfort!

#9) Casual Pants & Chic Blazer

If you liked the casualness of #8 but want something a little more polished, swap the oversized button-down for an elevated tee and add a blazer! The tee I’m wearing under the blazer is the same white See by Chloe pleat sleeve tee I’m wearing in #5. The Cinq a Sept blazer I’m wearing has been a heavy hitter for me all spring and summer. It has cool ruched, ¾ sleeves which are the PERFECT length…you don’t have to worry about trying to keep them pushed up. #10) Elevated Jeans & Tee

This is an outfit I’ll be wearing on repeat this summer! An elevated white tee paired with chic denim is my go-to momiform no matter what the season. In this look, I’m wearing the white See by Chloe tee with pleated, billowy sleeves and the baggy EB Denim split hem jeans you saw before. I paired it with heels but I’d definitely wear this with sneakers to run errands or kids’ games.

#11) Not-So Basic Button Down & White Jeans

This pink striped Zadig & Voltaire button-down shirt has quickly become a go-to for me this summer. I even took it on our trip to the Middle East. The pale pink is really pretty, the split cuffs are a cool detail, and there’s a fun amour graphic on the back. It’s 100% cotton so it’s super lightweight and breathable for summer! I like to tuck it in to the front of my jeans or shorts, but you could leave it out or tie it up in a knot too. I’m wearing it with the white Mother jeans and really love the pink and white color combo for summer. But I’ll also wear it with regular blue jeans and denim shorts.

#12) Navy & White Color Combo

Another color combo that’s SO good for summer? Navy and white! This is another Zadig & Voltaire top that has so many great details…a faux-wrap front and flutter hem (perfect for hiding a tummy), a v-neckline that’s very flattering, cool ruched cuffs, subtle puff sleeves, and embellishments along the neckline and shoulder. Wear it with your favorite white jeans or shorts for a chic summer momiform!
