How to Wear that Ugly Dad Sneaker Trend and Not Look Ridiculous

Dad Sneakers

Okay, okay… I know. I get it. Dad sneakers are NOT for everyone. In fact, some of you may loathe them so much, you may be reluctant to continue reading this post. Am I right?? Well, I promise you it’s worth your time. Even if you don’t like the dad sneaker trend, the sneaker trend in general is HUGE and you should definitely take advantage! I mean, walk around in actual comfort???? Why wouldn’t you try it?? In this look, I styled my sweater and jeans with my fancy “dad sneakers” by Givenchy, but you can easily swap these for a pair of Golden Goose sneaks or a pair by Veja. Veja is popular in Europe. GG sneakers are more popular here in the U.S.

What Are Dad Sneakers?

Dad shoes, dad sneakers, ugly sneakers, turbo trainers…they have many names! Let’s talk about what exactly dad sneakers are… You’ll recognize these sneakers by their bulky, thick soles, unique pattern/colors, and overall look of the 90’s. There are some options that are super stylish though! I linked both high-end designer and more affordable options below.

Again, my dad sneaker haters, just swap out these over-sized kicks for a pair of Veja sneakers that were made famous by Duchess Meghan Markle. I also love the Linea Paolo wedge sneakers and own them in multiple colors. They’re a good option for those of you who want to try sneakers and want the height of heels.

How To Style Dad Sneakers

Now to the fun part…how to style dad sneakers! There are tons of ways you can wear dad sneakers. But I want to share a super easy, mom-friendly way to style them! It’s as easy as throwing on a pair of jeans, a sweater, and grabbing your favorite handbag! Yep…that’s it! You can go way more fashion-forward and wear them with dresses, skirts, pants, etc. But jeans will be the easiest way to style them. Especially for you busy moms!

I’m wearing a pair of ankle zip jeans by Mother with a white Lovers + Friends textured cable knit sweater. My sneakers are unfortunately sold out but I linked some VERY similar ones! As you can see, my white sweater ties into the white in the sneakers and the jeans are basically like having a neutral on.
