Tips For Wearing Leggings Over 40

• If you’re worried about showing your bum, make sure you wear something long enough to cover it
• Be aware of volume control. When you wear something SO fitted on the bottom, you should aim to wear a looser fitting top or sweater
• Avoid tight-fitting tops over your tight-fitting leggings
• Once you find a brand of leggings you love, buy multiple pairs! I love the Spanx leggings and have several options!

#1 | With A Sweater

First, I want to talk about these Spanx faux leather leggings. You’ve probably seen them on Instagram on me or another blogger. I’ve also featured them a couple of times here on the site! They’re a great pair of leggings and I love the faux leather look. They run long so if you’re petite, get the petite version in your normal size.

In this look, I styled them with a gorgeous Brochu Walker pre-layered sweater. I did an entire post on how to wear a pre-layered sweater here. The longer length of this sweater is perfect with the leggings. I threw on my favorite combat boots and a classic black bag to complete the outfit.

#2 | With A Shirt & Jacket

These leggings are also by Spanx but don’t have that faux leather texture. I love all of the Spanx leggings because they really are the most forgiving. In terms of comfort, they aren’t the softest, but they provide intense tummy and leg control, so everything stays where you want it too. With the leggings, I’m wearing a chambray shirt that’s long enough to cover my bum. Over the shirt, I’m wearing a chic green jacket by Marissa Webb that’s unfortunately sold out. I like the utilitarian look of the jacket, and I love the color! Learn more about the utility trend here. These snake-embossed boots have been a heavy hitter in my closet since 2018! They’re just so chic, sexy and comfortable for heels.

#3 | With A Puffer

If you’re looking for a more casual way to wear your leggings when it’s cold and you don’t have a ton of time, this look is for you! Any other busy moms out there!? Throw a long comfy, casual sweater over your leggings so your bum is covered, and add your favorite boots. If you’re running out the door, throw on your puffer and a hat and you’re ready to go!

#4 | With A Cardigan

I love how this look is the most covered up and yet the sexiest! Leggings can be sexy!! I’m wearing another pre-layered sweater that’s unfortunately sold out, but I linked a similar option! Over the sweater, I put on a Barefoot Dreams cardigan that’s SO soft! To make the look dressier and sexier, I added leather over the knee boots but you could also wear the boots for Look #2. This pair is sold out, but I linked similar options!
