Meet the Mom Boss Behind Mom Trends!

Mom Blogger You Should Follow

Being an influencer (that’s what we are called now) is a lonely business. You spend hours ALONE in front of your computer with no one to talk to, except in my case our dog, Traveler. But, she never answers me! I LOVE making new friendships and meeting my fellow bloggers and mompreneurs. Not only is it awesome to chat with other humans…it’s also so helpful to learn more about their businesses, resources, and systems.

During our recent trip to New York City for the NYC Marathon, I was VERY excited to connect with a virtual friend and fellow blogger, Nicole Feliciano. She is the brains behind the popular blog, Mom Trends. I found out about Nicole when I was looking for other 40+ fashion bloggers to feature on the site. Nicole features some fashion, but she casts a much wider net… publishing topics that are really helpful to moms.

More About Mom Trends

Nicole has been in the blogging game for a LONG time, since 2007! Not only has she built a wildly successful blog and community, but she’s also published a book called, Mom Boss: Balancing Entrepreneurship, Kids, and Success! I am incredibly inspired by her drive and determination. She’s also a lovely person, and I think you will really enjoy getting to know her better.

Here’s my Q&A with Nicole:

Erin: For those that don’t already know, can you share what your blog “Mom Trends” is all about?

Nicole: MomTrends solves mom-specific problems. From what to wear to where to go we are the filter you need to spend your time and money better.

Erin: You’ve been in the blogging game for a LONG time since 2007. What do you think is your secret to longevity in an ever-changing space?

Nicole: Writing about things that both interest me and serve women. First I ask, “do I want to read this,” then “how does it help.” I never tire of talking about mom life, clothes and travel… so that’s what we do. I also love collaborating with other creative folks. It keeps things fresh.

Erin: Outsourcing is a step many entrepreneurs are nervous to take. When did you know it was time to start outsourcing, and what advice do you have for other entrepreneurs considering it?

Nicole: Look for your weakest areas and try to find someone who can help you play to your strengths. I have two amazing partners who help market and sell Momtrends. I’m a BIG IDEA girl and they help monetize my brainstorms.

They key thing is finding women you trust and want to spend time with. Life is too short to work with jerks.

Erin: You have two tween girls, a husband, business… How do you juggle it all?

Nicole: I don’t! I say no to a million little things to make more space for the big things that matter. I have a few hobbies (I won’t let go of reading or running) and I very covetous of family time. When I’m with my husband and girls I give them 100% of me. And they know when I’m in work mode, I’m equally focused on that.

As for tactics, I have a huge whiteboard for family stuff and a color-coded google calendar. Mr. Momtrends and I use long drives to our weekend house to strategize on the week ahead and recap on work stuff.

Erin: What is your favorite part about living in New York City??

Nicole: Being able to walk everywhere. I really hate driving in traffic.

I also adore how many entrepreneurial women live here. I’m constantly inspired.

Plus, the sushi is awesome.

Erin: What is it like raising kiddos in the big apple?

Nicole: It’s a workout- mentally and physically. Mentally there are a lot of Type A Moms (guilty) competing for resources. Our preschool might be harder to get in to than some colleges…and now costs over $30k a year!

Physically is a workout. We walk everywhere during the week. I often log 5 miles a day just getting the girls to school and activities, plus getting to my work appointments.

On the plus side, I love our diverse neighborhood and I vibe off the ambitious nature of NYC.

Erin: Favorite fashion piece?

Nicole: Do you mean a piece of clothing? Probably my vintage moto jacket from Ralph Lauren. Circa 2002.

Erin: Favorite NYC boutique?

Nicole: I rarely shop stores! It’s a little-known secret that many fashion bloggers hate to shop. I love to style things from my closet and I love scouring websites for the coolest finds.

When I do shop, it’s while I’m traveling. I’m crazy about Berenice a French brand with stores all over Europe.

Erin: Favorite makeup and skincare products if you can only pick one of each?

Nicole: Kiehl’s midnight botanical cleanser is a game changer. Who knew oil could make your skin do fabulous!

As for makeup, I’m fickle. Mostly I’m obsessed with lip gloss. My girls got me into Fenty beauty by Rihanna and I’m currently loving the lip gloss.

Erin: What is a fun fact people would be surprised to find out about you?

Nicole: I’ve been to more than 50 countries. I’m an avid explorer. Currently trying to hatch a plan to ski in Japan.

Please be sure to go check out Nicole’s blog here.

My Bogner Look

I am DYING over this mohair and wool coat by Bogner. Nicole connected with the brand recently so they sent some samples for us to wear on this shoot. I couldn’t find this exact coat online (I’ll keep you posted) but here’s a link to all of their sporty and luxe new arrivals.

I know Bogner is pricey, so I wanted to share a link to Bogner clothes for women on eBay here. I also found some awesome pieces on Amazon here. They also have a fab lower-priced line called, Fire + Ice here.

I will be skiing a LOT this winter. One of my goals is to take more lessons… so be on the lookout for more fab ski gear!

Some of my favorites from Bogner below.

I hope you enjoyed meeting Nicole! If you want to read more about my career story and advice, check out this post and this video.
