Outfits Without Jeans
In case you haven’t noticed… I kinda love wearing jeans. Yep. Total denim addict over here. Hi, I’m Erin and I’m addicted to wearing jeans. It’s an essential part of my style uniform: jeans, tee, and a blazer or leather jacket. But, here’s the thing, you gotta mix it up… sometimes, right??
So… if you are looking for stylish outfit ideas with jeans alternatives, this is THE post for you!! Just keep scrolling…
By the way, I shared 12 “cool mom” outfits you can recreate this summer and wear into fall in this post!

#1) Vegan Leather Shorts & Button Down
Do you remember this post where I shared 8 tips to help you feel more confident wearing shorts? One of the tips was to wear shorts with a wider leg like these Jonathan Simkhai shorts to make your legs look longer and slimmer. The A-line shape can also help mask or minimize your hips, butt, and thighs if that’s your problem area. I styled the shorts with my favorite Rails button-down and a pair of woven wedge sandals by Veronica Beard that are perfect for summer to fall. This is a super simple outfit to throw on for lunch or dinner. You can even swap the wedges for sneakers to dress it down!

#2) Joggers & Blouse
If you don’t like to wear jeans but don’t like to wear shorts…try joggers! Joggers are a wonderful option if you want to keep it casual and comfortable but still want to look pulled together. These James Perse joggers are old but I’ve linked two very similar options here and here that will give you the same look. To dress up the joggers a bit, I styled it with a pretty white Maje blouse and the same wedges from look #1. But if you wanted to keep it even more casual, swap the blouse for a basic white tee (with an elevated twist) and a pair of sneakers.

#3) Shorts & Blazer
If you liked the shorts in #1 but want a look that’s a little more polished, this look is for you! I’m wearing these cool pinstripe Marissa Webb shorts with a pleat sleeve tee by See by Chloe. These shorts have a roomy leg, A-line silhouette, and high waist that’s so flattering. The tee is sold out, but I linked a more affordable option I own and love. Over the tee, I’m wearing my favorite white Cinq a Sept blazer. It has ruched sleeves that make it more of a ¾ sleeve blazer so you don’t have to keep rolling your sleeves up and the fit is just SO good! On my feet, I went with some tan See by Chloe platform heels but for a busy day or a more casual look, I’d wear a pair of sneakers or flat sandals.

#4) Joggers & Jacket
Continuing on with a more athleisure-inspired look…these are some of my all-time favorite joggers! I styled them above with a sporty racing stripe jacket, but you could easily dress these up too. I’ve had these Norma Kamali joggers for years and featured them multiple times on the site! They’re so soft they feel like pajamas, but they look luxe and chic enough to wear running errands, to the grocery store, or even just answering your front door. They are PERFECT if you are petite. (I’m 5’4″ for reference.)

#5) Faux Leather Leggings & Sweater
Another jean alternative for fall is…leggings! I know that many women over 40 don’t like to wear leggings but I’ve shared some really helpful styling tips in this post. You’ve probably seen these Spanx leggings on Instagram since they are VERY popular. I’ve also featured them a couple of times here on the site! I love the faux leather look. It’s super edgy. These run long so if you’re petite, get the petite version in your normal size. I’m wearing a pre-layered sweater by Brochu Walker that was a heavy hitter for me two years ago. Make sure you wear something that is long enough to cover your bum when you wear leggings. To complete the look I’m wearing these mock-croc black boots to add some sexy to the look.
Which of these combos are you going to try? Do you have any of these in your closet already?? Let me know in the comments below!

I love all your styles and guidelines. I’m 65 so I’ll give the shorts a miss but I still love my leggings and love how you styled them with both the jumper and jacket.

Thank you for your sweet words, Rosemary… I’m glad you enjoyed this one. ~Erin xo
Erin, aren’t faux leather leggings or pants hot? It seems like that fabric wouldn’t breathe like leather and they would be uncomfortable to wear.
Hi, Mary! It depends on what synthetic fibers have been used to create the piece. Polyurethan-based leather is more breathable than vinyl-based leather. Faux leather is as diverse as real leather. I hope that helps! ~Erin xo
