Sequin Tops For New Year's Eve

#1) Drape Back Sequin Top

First up is this gorgeous sequin top by 1. State. It has a mock neck, long sleeves, and a beautiful, dramatic draped back. You know what I always say…I like drama in my clothes, not my life. This top is perfect for a holiday party, a night out, or even during your family get-together at home for New Year’s Eve. Oh, and the best part is that it’s under $100! It also comes in black, silver, and pale pink and runs true to size (I’m wearing a small). I’ve styled it with a pair of straight-leg jeans, but you could easily style this top with some classic black wide-legged pants for an office party or a chic skirt to dress it up even more. Note: you will need someone to help you with the back buttons at the neck.

#2) Sequin Camisole

Next up is this festive and sexy 1. State sequin cami. Every woman needs a basic black and white cami in her closet for everyday wear. But I think a sequin cami is a must-have for the holidays too! I styled it on its own with jeans, but I could see this cami under a blazer, moto jacket, or faux fur paired with pants and skirts too. It keeps going in and out of stock so I linked a few other options below to give you the same look.

#3) Puff Sleeve Sequin Top

This gorgeous sequin top has a fun puff sleeve, it’s super soft and comfortable, lined on the inside so the sequins don’t scratch, and it’s thin enough to tuck into pants without adding bulk around the tummy. This exact top is older so it’s sold out but I linked some similar puff sleeve sequin tops below…

#4) V-Neck Sequin Top

I love this more understated, long-sleeve white sequin top! It has a super flattering v-neckline. This top is also lined, thin enough to tuck into pants, and I really love that the V doesn’t go too low. Pair your v-neck sequin top with jeans for a casual New Year’s Eve outfit or dress it up with some wide-leg pants. Sharing more tops like this one below…

Sequin Duster Cardigan

#5) Sequin Duster Cardigan

If sequin tops aren’t your thing, a sequin cardigan is perfect! It has an interior drawstring to create more shape and is lined to make it soft on your skin. It’s that perfect show-stopping, eye-catching statement piece that will instantly elevate a basic look for NYE. I’m wearing it with chic joggers, a silky cami, and pumps but you could even throw it over a basic top and jeans for a simple, casual New Year’s Eve outfit.

White Sequin Blazer

#6) Sequin Blazer

If sequin tops aren’t for you and you want something more polished than a cardigan, go for a blazer! What better time to wear a sequined blazer than for NYE, right? I love this more subtle white sequin blazer with the matching pants. This would be such a fun look for a dressy New Year’s Eve party. But you could also wear it over a blouse and jeans for a casual look. I’m sharing a few blazer options below…

Sequin Halter Top

#7) Sequin Halter Top

I love the high neck on this sequin halter top for some extra coverage, but it’s still so sexy with the bare arms and shoulders. If it’s cold where you live, you can throw on a jacket or coat over this top while outside.

Sequin T-Shirt

#8) Sequin T-Shirt

For a more casual New Year’s Eve celebration, consider a sequin tee! It still makes a statement because of the sequins, but the t-shirt style is inherently more casual. Wear it with jeans and your slippers for a New Year’s Eve at home.

Sequin Peplum Top

#9) Sequin Peplum Top

This top is really old, but I wanted to share it because peplum tops are SO flattering for many different body shapes. I share more tips on wearing sequins based on your body shape below. But if you’re worried about a tummy at all, and want to wear sequins for NYE, I recommend a peplum top! I’m sharing a few options below…

Geometric Sequin Cami | Sequin Tops For New Year's Eve

#10) Geometric Sequin Cami

If you liked the look of the sequin cami in #2 but want something a little edgier, look for a cami with some edgy details like a geometric print, leather accents, etc. This cami has a geometric design that gives it a little extra oomph. I’m sharing a few edgier sequin options below…

How To Wear A Sequin Top

Dress It Up

Dress up your sequin stop by wearing it with dressier bottoms like a skirt, wide-leg pants, velvet pants, or leather pants. Then add some impactful jewelry and heels, and you’re ready to go! If you are headed to a cocktail party but still want to wear sequins and really take it to the next level, consider finding a sequin dress or jumpsuit instead of a top.

Dress It Down

For a more casual sequin outfit…you can dress down your sequin top! You can never go wrong pairing your sequin top with a pair of jeans. Another option if you’re staying in and keeping it low-key is to try it with joggers or wide-legged lounge pants for ultimate comfort!

Choose Accessories Wisely

First, ask yourself how you want to look. Do you want to go glam or understated? If you’re going glam, choose statement accessories that are impactful, but don’t outshine your sequin top. If you’re trying to keep it understated, you still want impactful accessories…they just won’t be as over-the-top. For example, you would choose simple gold hoops versus fun statement earrings.

I share all of my favorite holiday accessories here if you’re looking for some fun options!

Choose Modern Pieces

This tip is more about choosing the right sequin top for you. You can definitely go with a simple v-neck, long-sleeve sequin top and look fabulous. But, when selecting your perfect sequin top, consider modern design details like puff shoulders, asymmetrical necklines, wrap styles, etc. Those little details make a big difference!

Mix Textures

Don’t get me wrong, a fully sequined outfit is something I’ve worn for a special occasion. But if that’s not your style, I recommend mixing your sequins with other textures like denim, velvet, and faux leather or leather to add some interest to the look.

Know Your Body Shape

Depending on your body shape, you might actually want to avoid wearing sequins on your top half. Don’t worry, that doesn’t mean you can’t wear sequins! Sequins draw attention… so if you’re an Inverted Triangle, for example, to create more balance, try wearing sequins on your bottom half like I did in this post.

If you’re not sure, check out this post with step-by-step instructions on how to determine your body shape!

Sequin Top Outfit Ideas

Outfit Idea #1) Sequin Top with Denim

You can wear your sequin top with your favorite pair of jeans for a chic, casual, and simple holiday look. I personally love wide-leg, flare, or straight-leg jeans in a darker wash. But you could wear black skinny jeans, tapered ankle jeans, crop flare jeans, or whatever you prefer! Throw on a pair of heels and some jewelry and you’re ready to go!

Sequin Top with Black Wide Leg Trousers

Outfit Idea #2) Sequin Top with Black Wide Leg Trousers

If you have an office party that you want to look a little more festive, pair your sequin top with some black wide-leg trousers for a super flattering look. I love the Spanx wide-leg pants but you can where whatever trousers you already have in your closet. Then, add some black pumps to keep the legs looking long, and some subtle jewelry to tie it all together.

Outfit Idea #3) Sequin Top with Tapered Trousers

If you prefer a more tapered or slim-fit trousers, it’s the same idea as outfit #2! If you’re wearing this somewhere other than a work party, consider adding a fun beaded clutch or another accessory to bring it up a notch.

Sequin Tops For New Year's Eve

Outfit Idea #4) Sequin Top with Joggers

Joggers are a really fun and unique way to style your sequin top. If you’re staying home, throw on a pair of comfortable joggers. Or opt for velvet or satin joggers for a super chic and unexpected NYE look!

Outfit Idea #5) Sequin Top with Velvet Pants

If you don’t have or like velvet joggers, you can go with a more traditional style of velvet pants or velvet jeans!

Outfit Idea #6) Sequin Top with Wide Leg Pants

The most traditional option (and easiest to style) would be black wide-leg pants. These are different than the trousers mentions in outfit #2 because they’ll be a more casual look. Pleated pants are a big trend right now, which would be fun to try to style with your sequin top. You could also go with pretty much any color and/or style!

Sequin Top with Tulle Skirt

Outfit Idea #7) Sequin Top with Tulle Skirt

I’ve styled a sequin top with a tulle skirt and felt SO fabulous! The important part is getting the proportions right. If you’re wearing a voluminous tulle skirt, consider going with a more fitted or body-skimming sequin top. This look is pretty dramatic, so for NYE, ditch the added accessories and rock the tulle and sequin combo!

Outfit Idea #8) Sequin Top with Pleated Skirt

Along the same line, but slightly more subtle…a sequin top would look beautiful with a pleated midi skirt!

Sequin Tops For New Years Eve

Outfit Idea #9) Sequin Top with Pencil Skirt

I know the look above isn’t a sequin top…but I wanted you to see a general idea of styling a pencil skirt and sequins. Wear your sequin top with a chic black pencil skirt for ultimate sophistication for NYE!

Outfit Idea #10) Sequin Top with Sequin Skirt

Which leads to the next outfit idea…a sequin top with a sequin skirt! Double down on the sequins and wear a chic black sequin top with a matching black sequin skirt…or whatever color you love!

Outfit Idea #11) Sequin Top with Faux Leather or Leather Pants

The next outfit idea is to wear your sequin top with leather or faux leather pants. Try some cropped faux leather pants, wide-leg faux leather pants, or even faux leather leggings. If you go with leggings, I’d consider wearing a tunic top or sweater paired with something that covers your bum like the sequin duster I shared above.

Perfect White Suit holiday look

Outfit Idea #12) Sequin Top with Sequin Pants

Bring on the drama by wearing your sequin top with matching sequin pants! In the look above, I’m wearing a matching sequin blazer and pants suit. But you could wear your sequin pants with a sequin camisole, one-shoulder top, puff sleeve top, etc.

Outfit Idea #13) Sequin Top with Blazer

To tone down the sparkle a little, throw on a blazer! Having that little bit of sparkle showing under the blazer adds just enough oomph.

Faux Fur Coat winter style | Sequin Tops For New Year's Eve

Outfit Idea #14) Sequin Top with Faux Fur Jacket or Coat

OR…try a faux fur coat! Walking into your NYE celebration with a faux fur coat makes a statement (in a good way). Then, you’ll take off your coat, and BAM…a fabulous sequin top!

Outfit Idea #15) Sequin Top with Cardigan

Dress your sequins down with a cozy cardigan and some lounge pants for a New Year’s Eve at home this year!

It's all too easy for me to get carried away with my own mental checklist of things to do, and I often find myself feeling overwhelmed and bogged down by the pressure of it all. The practice of "mindfulness" was highlighted at Miraval, and it's easily one of my biggest takeaways. Mindfulness is defined as simply bringing awareness and acceptance to our moment-to-moment experiences. To practice it, I have been focusing on being more mindful of my everyday experiences. Whether it's reflecting on everything I am grateful for as I cozy into bed at night, breathing in the fresh air outside as I notice the sights and sounds around me, or simply standing in my kitchen appreciating the smell of delicious homemade food with the sound of my kids' laughter echoing in the background. Taking the time to be more mindful has made such a difference in pulling me out of the grind and into the moment with a deeper appreciation for where I am.

There were many poignant takeaways from the retreat, but if I had to choose just one it would be the importance of accepting transitions in life. As someone who really doesn’t love change, this is difficult for me. But recognizing transitions are inevitable and trying to find the positive in them has been eye-opening and has taught me to reframe my thoughts about change. This pretty much leads to the one habit I’m implementing fairly consistently (still a work in progress!) which involves rethinking my reaction to stress or anxiety…even if it’s something small. At Miraval, we learned that even small (seemingly relatively innocent) little stressors can together have a BIG impact in terms of our happiness and the negativity we carry around in a day. If I start to get anxious about something, I can control the feelings by doing one of these things: breathe/meditate for one minute, change my thinking pattern, listen to music, walk or move briskly. Basically, just change what I’m doing to temporarily step back and gain some perspective. I can ask myself, “Am I giving this “problem” more weight than it deserves?” Essentially, I’m distracting myself from the negativity and choosing to focus on something more positive. I’ve learned there is always something positive to focus on if I choose to find it! So, I try to catch myself before I go down the negative rabbit hole.

Since returning from our team retreat at Miraval, I have been doing a deep dive into habits. Research has shown that those who create a new “small” habit often have a larger ripple effect in their lives, even more than those who try to implement a larger change. At Miraval, we attended a session that focused on brain health. One of the small takeaways from this session was that the body needs to be hydrated in order to function most efficiently. We have all heard this before…drinking 8 glasses of water a day is in no way new advice, but for some reason, something in this lecture gave me the motivation to try and shift from virtually zero glasses a day to the recommended amount of 8. I’m a diehard Diet Snapple, coffee, and Diet Lemonade girl! Upon returning home, I bought myself a new water bottle, started filling it each morning, and brought it up to my desk. Without even realizing it, I found myself emptying the 32 oz bottle 2 and sometimes 3 times per day. Within a week, the changes I felt (more moisturized skin, less hunger, a more settled stomach) were undeniable. The same research also shows that once you develop a habit, it is easy to “habit stack”. This means you can add on more habits to existing ones and that is exactly what I did. I have moved my vitamins and supplements to my desk which I now take daily because I have the water sitting right next to me. As an added bonus, I am also consuming a ton less artificial sweeteners and caffeine now that I am reaching for my water. If you’re interested in diving deeper into information about habits, I’m currently reading The Power of Habit and Atomic Habits, both linked below.

While at Miraval, we took a class about intuitive living and one of the principles was to “Be Clueless.” Which just means that you should choose not to give power to the thinking mind. Instead, practice being clueless by enhancing your senses and connecting to them. One habit I have adopted since the retreat is going outside each day after work and sitting in silence for 15 minutes. I set the timer on my phone, close my eyes, and just listen. Once I've heard 10-15 unique sounds, I then open my eyes and finish out the 15 minutes looking around but remaining silent. It's been a wonderful calming way to transition out of my work brain. And I’m giving more power to my senses than to my thinking mind.

The Team Retreat was something I was looking forward to for months, yet as we got closer and closer to it, I began to feel nervous and unsure of what was to come - anxious feelings that I get with anything new, no matter how exciting it may be. Well, this retreat was, first of all… AMAZING. It was wonderful to be in a beautiful place, to get pampered, to meet and connect with the most amazing team of women, and to simply have a break from the craziness of everyday life… but the best part of it all was what I took home with me. During this short time, I was able to learn so many helpful practices that have truly changed my own well-being and ability to connect with the world around me. The overall theme of the Miraval journey is to focus on and implement mindfulness and balance. Before this week, I thought I was practicing this in my daily life…but boy was I wrong! One particular practice that I have loved adding to my routine, is that of Mindful Eating. The question was posed in a group session at Miraval, “Are you tasting your food or just your thoughts?” Often when I sit down to have a meal, I’ll look at my phone, try to get work done, watch a show, or simply try to eat as quickly as I can to get on to the next task of my day. Without ever thinking about the food I'm eating, only thinking about whatever else is going on inside of my head. But this practice allows you to slow down and truly enjoy. The simple act of placing your fork on the table in between bites forces you to physically move slower and gives you the space to focus on and savor the food that you are consuming. As soon as I heard this, I thought it would be an easy thing to add to my routine every day. Even better…Every single meal could be mindful and what a difference that could make! Well, reality sets in once you return home from a place like Miraval, and the to-do list comes right back. But we were reminded that even one Mindful Meal a week can make such a difference. And how true that has proven to be!

Kaitlyn - Digital Strategy Manager

I’m extremely hard on myself…Even when it’s pretty unwarranted. I think many women can relate to that. Deciding to skip a workout, not getting to everything on my to-do list for the day, or forgetting to pick up the dry cleaning are all simple (and usually inconsequential) things that make me start that negative inner monologue about not being “insert adjective here” enough. If this sounds familiar…you’re not alone! One of the tools I learned during our Mindful Stress Mastery class at Miraval is something I’ve started implementing and can already tell makes a difference. When that negative inner monologue starts, put your right hand over your chest or stomach and place your left hand on your forearm. When you do it, say “gentle” in your head or out loud as a reminder to be gentle with yourself. Touch is such a strong sense and when you give yourself that small reminder, it can make a huge impact.
