2020 Spring Handbag Trends
Good news! We are getting away from the micro-mini bags and transitioning to more functional styles! From the spring runways, we’re seeing bags in all shapes, sizes, and materials. All of these trends will get you excited for spring and ready to make room in your closet for some of the new, trendy it bags of spring/summer! Make sure you check out the spring fashion trends in this video and post. Plus, spring jewelry trends in this video and post.
#1 | Oversized Totes
Yay! Finally bigger bags! I used to carry a giant bag but as the kids got older I swapped to smaller styles because I didn’t have to carry as much. But if you’re a mom of young kids or just love giant bags, this trend is perfect (and practical) for you!
#2 | Sling Bags
You’re probably familiar with what sling bags are but if not, they are essentially an unstructured bag that you can wear over your shoulder or across your body. They are ideal for travel or every day! We saw all sorts of sling bags including some with cool buckle details, majorly elongated straps, and feminine touches like ruffled or bow-tied straps. A lot of them were even oversized (like Nanushka). They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. And they are very chic!
#3 | Drawstring, Pouch, and Slouch Bags
This is a new, fresh take on the popular bucket bag! It’s a broad trend because it encompasses a lot! One the runways there were drawstring bags and slouchy pouches. You can see from the photos above exactly what I’m talking about. I personally love the drawstring bags and know it’d be super chic in a leather/faux leather style. There were also tons of roomier, bigger clutches possibly inspired by the popular Bottega Veneta pouch.
#4 | Woven Bags
Woven bags for spring are a no brainer. But the woven bags for spring/summer 2020 are kicked up a notch. Instead of the casual beachy look, we’re seeing woven bags in sleek and structured silhouettes and with materials like leather instead of straw. It’s a sophisticated take on the woven bag! If you’re going to try the trend, get a woven material that’s more durable (like rattan) and in a color that won’t stain as easily (like a darker brown or black).
#5 | Metallic Bags
I wanted to share a color trend as well as the top evening bag trend. These metallic bags are perfect for going out, events or when you just want to add a little sparkle to your everyday looks! They’re in all sizes and shapes so you can take your pick. Carry a beautiful metallic clutch with a sexy date-night outfit or gorgeous evening gown.
Obviously these five are not the only trends. Some other spring handbag trends from the runways included:
- Cool, modern, and sleek buckle detailing from designers like Gucci, Michael Kors, and Proenza Schouler
- A slight nod to nature with a bag featuring bamboo handles from designers like Prada, Miu Miu, and Gucci.
- Compartmentalized bags that had two and three pouches in each bag. Seen on Peter Pilotto, JW Anderson, and Coach runways.
- Colorful striped bags from designers like Fendi and Marc Jacobs. Even Gabriela Hearst, who usually has more minimal styles went with a bold striped bag!
Thank you for stopping by!
