Long Skirts For Women Over 40!
How many of you are skirt people?? You love …and live in skirts? Well, I’m pretty much the opposite. I hardly wear skirts. My style uniform normally consists of jeans and a cute top. But…recently I was inspired to order a few skirts and… I’m absolutely loving them! I’m actually wearing the three skirts below on our family cross-country road trip more than my jeans or jean shorts which is really saying something.
If you’re interested in what to look for when shopping for a maxi skirt, check out this post.

Skirt #1) Alice + Olivia Asymmetrical Skirt
You may have seen this skirt on Instagram. It’s super cute and the last time I checked, it was on major sale! It’s by Alice + Olivia, vegan leather, and has a cool asymmetrical hemline. It has a billowy fit so it’s not as hot as you might think. I paired it with a cool, elevated white tee by Nation LTD. I love the ruffled shoulders! I’ve worn this look twice now…once with some cool See by Chloe espadrille wedges and a pair of sparkly Golden Goose sneakers. If you missed my post on if these sneakers are worth the money, you can check that out here.
Skirt #2) Printed Pleated Skirt
The next skirt is also by Alice + Olivia and it’s gorgeous! I love the unique print, pleating, and dramatic maxi length. Like I always say…I like drama with my clothes, not my life! It’s hard to tell in the photos but this skirt also has an asymmetrical hemline. And it’s flowy so it’s not too hot. I styled it with a sexy black bodysuit by Free People. This bodysuit has a wire v-neck so it’s lower cut but you feel very secure because of the wiring. You can wear it without a bra and the bodysuit itself fits really well (unlike many bodysuits out there). It also comes in white! If you don’t like bodysuits, you could easily style this with a black cropped top or tee. I’m wearing it with sneakers but you could also dress it up with wedges.

Skirt #3) Full Embroided Skirt
This embroidered skirt is also by Alice & Olivia and it’s So pretty! I love the pattern and am so excited to wear it in Spain! The fuller A-line silhouette and thick waistband make it very flattering. I styled it the same ruffled top by Nation LTD from the first look and a pair of espadrille wedges by See by Chloe.

Liked the skirts, especially 2&3. I wear skirts a lot and they really do upgrade your look. People take you more seriously if you are dressed conservatively.
Glad you enjoyed the post, Cheryl! xo
I always feel like my lower stomach pooch is emphasized when I wear a skirt.
Have you tried wearing Spanx with your skirts? That may help you feel more confident in a skirt. Shapewear is great for smoothing everything out and allowing your clothes to drape better. Try a pair that comes up right under the bust… the styles that stop at the waist sometimes roll down and make the problem worse. Here’s an option! https://rstyle.me/+3AbyTT6NkkDkxZU8LLkrbA xo
I’m a 52 year old woman with large breasts….I would love to wear the little camis you do but i need support. how can i get the look while wearing a bra?
You could try a bra with pretty straps like a Marie Jo bra: https://rstyle.me/n/c7g5zf58an
I am 57 and have always favored a classic, preppy style. (Talbots, lands end) Sadly, Menopause has dramatically changed what is in my closet and what I can wear. I have lost 15 pounds since January with 15 to go! Slow process but I am slowly able to wear the clothes that have been waiting patiently for me in my closet! Some are outdate….so I STUMBLED upon your Youtube channel and Beth’s channel. You have both been very helpful! Funny to see you meet up at Sea island. Yours are the only channels/websites i have found to be helpful and that I can relate to. I really need someone like you to help me sort out my closet!
Thaks to you bothj!
You are so sweet, Dawn! Thank you for sharing your story. I, too, am going through menopause. It’s a tricky time. I LOVE Beth! I met her at the blogger conference two years ago and I knew right away that we had a connection. I really admire and respect her as a person and as a businesswoman. She’s awesome! Thank you so much for your kind, supportive words. Means a lot!
Hi Erin. I love the way you styled the skirt. I am slightly pear shAped,5’2”. Did you have to get the skIrt heMmed? Also, since THE SLIT seems high, is there a slip that you wear underneatH that skirt?
Thank you so much for your posts and tips.
No…but I have to wear heels. I’m 5’4″… you might have to have it taken up a couple of inches. I did not wear a slip, but if you were going to wear one, I would suggest the Commando half slip https://rstyle.me/n/c6g5d358an that I talked about in my bras video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEixv1f4kEE
I am new to the yoUtuBe Community other than trying to find help with math problems for my grandchildren. In fact, my 9 year old grandaughter got me into youtube telling me that i needed to watch some makeup videos; she is obsessed! First i found elle (elle is for living), then MelIssa55 who both Led me to beth and you! Ive recently been “down” with some fairly serioUs Spine issues with extra unfilled hours and the four of you have brought me so much enjoyment and eNcouragement. Im a 67 year old Retired medical office manager, a lifelOng texaN (East, so we’re still considered tO be southern i Guess). My husbanD and i wll be married for 45 years in september. OUr youngest daughter is a single mom and works out of town as a nicu nurse, so it works out wonderfully for her and her children to live with us (16 yr old boy, 9 yr old girl). Our daughter is a rUnner like your husbaNd, though she didn’t start Until she was 39. She ran in the chicago marathon last year and won a lotTery sPoT to run in the NYC maratHon This year, she is so excited and i understand the pride you have in your husband running! I Am so happy for the success you are having with your family’s move to telluride and your business. Keep that gOrgeOus smile and attitude! Best regards, deb
Congrats to your daughter, Deb! We will be there again this year for the race. It’s Chris’ 21st consecutive NYC marathon. It’s one of my favorite trips of the year! Will you be there? I’m really sorry to hear about your spine issues. Thank you so much for your sweet and supportive works. It really means a lot to me. Erin xo

Hi Erin I loved this post about your friend. I thought the Maxi skirt was one of the freshest prettiest skirts I have ever seen. Of course, as usual, the model is exceptionally gorgeous. Thanks, Erin for all the work you do to help us look our best.
